John Ruskin Arts and Crafts Movement UK1819-1900

The Arts and Crafts Movement was largely a reaction against the impoverished state of the decorative arts at the time and the conditions in which they were produced. It stood for traditional craftsmanship using simple forms and often applied medieval, romantic or folk styles of decoration. It advocated economic and social reform and has been said to be essentially anti-industrial.

Biohacking encompasses a wide spectrum of practices and movements ranging from DIY body-enhancements to DIY biologists who conduct at-home gene sequencing. Biohacking emerged in a growing trend of non-institutional science and technology development.

Open Access Movement Open access (OA) is the practice of providing unrestricted access via the Internet to peer-reviewed scholarly research. It is most commonly applied to scholarly journal articles, but it is also increasingly being provided to theses, book chapters, and scholarly monographs.

Citizen Science Once the exclusive domain of industry experts, science is crossing over into wider society thanks to open-source tools, affordable technologies and an inclusive community spirit. Able to uncover useful insights into product development, consumer behaviour and even big data, businesses should ally themselves with the new citizen scientist.
