A B O U T I believe landscape architecture is all about connection, the connection with the people, connection with the places. Travelling and being outdoors are my passion. It gives me opportunities to broaden my horizons and to explore. I believe experiences overseas help me to be more creative with my projects.

‘’Neighbourhood is a state of being in a relationship’’
to make a neighbourhood where living locally as possible vital that it’s easy access to work, medical and child care, learning entertainment and retails, ideally walking distance from dwelling. - Sim, D., (2019)
SITE - Holbeck is a post-industrial city, a distinctive area in Leeds which conserves many 1850’s historic buildings. It is easy to see the patterns and urban fabric from the industrial brick structures. Some examples of which can be seen in the case of Temple Mill, disused Holbeck Viaduct, and back-to-backs building. - It is located at south edged of the Leeds city centre, 15 minutes walk. However, there is a huge gap between health, income, employment, living environment. - Many regeneration plan focus on the the north and east, neglecting Holbeck which divided Holbeck into Old Holbeck and Urban Village - It is ranked overall deprivtion in the top 10 % in the UK and one of the highest recorded crime rates in the entire Leeds South Policing wards

Temple Works is one of the most
important heritage in North England. It is graded 1 listed. It once was the heart of the industrial revolution. The structure is vacant now, used for events or art space. The council is working in partnership to bring this back alive

Furthermore establishing a node at the crossroad outside the square, by pinching the road in and adding corner shops, is crucial to invite people into the new event space from the street. the River
One product of The Workshop is a ‘Kit of Parts’ consisting of (but not limited to) moveable seating, planters, seater-planters and play equipment. The Kit of Parts is made up of local recycled materials such as unwanted wooden palettes from the box factory; inkeeping with Aerin’s passion for maintaining the Kelham Island character and craft.

River Walk for Aerin
To make the Kit of Parts work, The Builder Artist (Aerin) will establish a working relationship with the box factory workers, such as Richard, who can move the furniture using the factory forklift. The Builder Artist is also responsible for organising when and where the kit is moved based on seasonality, time of day or unique cultural events. The Kit of Parts can be arranged to alter ‘the edge themes’ and optimise the socio-spatial arrangement (see below).

the River The river is accessible and celebrated for the whole box yard co-working community. Richard can easily find a quiet space at the waters edge on his break. The new riverwalk is appropriated by the new workshop cafe. Chairs are placed outside for Aerin to have her cosy coffee. The West Pack industry is visible so Rudy can look in and see the cool forklift trucks. Richard can see the river when on his shift. The terraced river bank leads down to small platforms for Rudy to jump between and feed the ducks on the vegetated bank.
18
the square The square offers a sheltered microclimate for Abdul’s customers to sit out on the deck and dine alfresco. Activity in The Workshop can be observed through the generously sized foldable windows (Gehl, 2010). The moveable planters and furniture built by the workshop and organised by the Builder Artist (Aerin) offer intricate pockets for staying and therefore more places for Richard to sit on his break. They also permit a flexible space capable of hosting a series of programmed events for the whole community.

The street Swales with stepping stones demarcate the pedestrian and traffic zones whilst making Rudy’s walk to school fun and safe. Corner shops at the crossroad activate this node, inviting people into the square, and provide a place for Aerin and Richard to buy groceries and cigarettes respectively. The Street at the weekend is taken over by moveable furniture and planters to expand the indoor outdoor interface when the West Pack vehicles are dormant. Pinching the road in at the corner gives more room for the corner shops to appropriate the pavement and makes it easier for Abdul to cross safely with Rudy (Sims, 2019).
key locality extent laterality An optimum dimension for spatial expansion of around 3.75m has been applied where appropriate to encourage mutual acknowlegdement and exchange between our characters and the wider box yard co-working community (Thwaites et al. 2013). Moveable furniture and planters allow optimisation of the edge for different events and seasons.
