New co-curricular times A reminder that Foundation Phase co-curriculars are now from 13:00–4:00 and Intermediate Phase co-curriculars are now from 14:00–15:00. Action week 30 July to 3 August 2018 In the last week of school we are organising a week filled with activities and outings for the children. This will entail a programme of experiential learning. Goodbye... On Friday we will be saying goodbye to Sisipho Mbaru in Grade 3B, who is leaving us for the beautiful city of Cape Town. We wish her much happiness and success at her new school. Grade 3 Sweet and Savoury Sale Thank you to all the Grade 3 Parents for your generous support. The children enjoyed improving their financial skills as they discussed suitable costing of items. Physio corner Your children are such stars! I thought I would start off the physio corner by explaining the benefits of star jumps and how it can strengthen body and mind. Pupils can perform star jumps before school to get themselves ready for the day! Benefits of Star Jumps 1. A great warm up exercise - star jumps will get you ready for the day and for school by warming up all your muscles and joints, as well as your brain. 2. Improves the health of your heart – while performing star jumps your heart has to work extra hard to pump oxygen around your body. This, in turn, helps exercise the heart muscles as well as your lungs. 3. Improves your co-ordination - you need to co-ordinate your limbs during star jumps, which in turn helps to improve the co-ordination between your limbs and your brain. 4. Relieves stress levels - during exercising your brain releases special “feel good” hormones that help you to relax and make you feel happy. 5. It’s a full body work out and makes both your body and brain strong. Reflection: Love of work It’s test time for some of us. We are all working hard, and this reminds us of one of the pillars of the Marist movement: Love of work. God of love, give us the gift of a passion for our work. To be willing to go the extra mile, to wash feet, to heal wounds, to strive after excellence. We ask this in confidence through Jesus our brother. Amen.

Hockey season and new co-curricular programme after mid-term Soccer and netball season finishes at the end of this week. After mid-term we start with hockey and pre-season athletics, so please make sure your child has shin-pads and a gum guard for hockey. The school has hockey sticks but children are welcome to bring their own. Your child will receive the new co-curricular programme by the end of this week.
