Sacred Heart College Pre-Primary Newsletter Newsletter 03 April 2018 UPCOMING EVENTS

5 April: Auction Under the Stars 6 April: Break up day Auction Under the Stars We are all looking forward to our auction on Thursday evening. The children have been working very hard preparing their works of art. The dress code is formal and parents are asked to arrive between 18:30 and 19:00. Parking will be available outside the pre-school in the everyday parking area. You will have a chance to enjoy live music and enjoy the cheese and wine, Irish coffees as well as other refreshments. Halaal options will be available. Whilst enjoying the live music, you will have the chance to view the art and bid silently to Rashida and her team for your child’s own artwork. The minimum bid for this is R100, but of course the works are priceless, so parents are asked to bid (silently) by placing their money in an envelope provided and giving it to the team. Joey Rasdien and Mpho Osei-Tutu will then open the main auction, which will be for the group artworks. These are beautiful pieces of work that the teachers and children have spent many hours creating. I speak from experience, as I still have my child’s fruit bowl that I bid for 15 years ago. If you are unable to attend the function, your child’s artwork will be available to purchase from Rashida prior to or the day after the event. We would, however, encourage all parents to buy a ticket for R50 to attend. We are raising money in order to purchase items such as a digital microscope Sacred Heart College

and other scientific, Reggio specific apparatus. These are the pricier apparatus that will enhance critical thinking in our school. Wacky Wizard The children had a wonderful time last Wednesday. They witnessed magic tricks and some of the children had the chance to assist with the show.

Happy Birthday Happy birthday to Kirstie for today. We hope you have a wonderful day. Easter Egg Hunt The Easter bunny brought Easter eggs to our school this past Thursday. Thank you to Kai from purple group who brought the carrots which encouraged the bunny to be extra generous.

Holidays We break up at 11:00 on Friday for the April holidays. Ask Leah if you need to make use of our aftercare holiday programme. Please book these days with Leah in advance as it does have staffing implications for the school. Winter Uniform Below is an example of the winter uniform permitted in the pre-primary. School beanies and scarves are also permitted. Please note that is better to dress children in layers that they can remove during the day as it warms up. Please note that if the smaller children find the uniform tracksuit pants too big, they may wear navy leggings. They may also wear a navy polo neck or long-sleeved shirt under the golf shirt.

Nolakhi Silwana We are sad to announce that Nolakhi, the assistant teacher in the Orange Group has resigned and will be leaving the Sacred Heart Community at the end of April. We thank her for her many years of service and are in the final round of interviews to replace her position.
