Dear Pre-Primary and Primary School Parents
GENERAL: FOR ALL PARENTS Catholic Primary Schools Mini Soccer and Netball Festival Report Sacred Heart College hosted the 5th annual Catholic Schools Primary Mini Soccer and Netball Festival on Saturday, 28 May. A total of 13 schools participated in this Grade One, Two and Three Festival. The weather played its part for a change and everyone enjoyed a warm and sunny morning! This Foundation Phase Festival is growing in numbers each year. All in all, 42 netball teams played a total of 96 netball matches, and 48 soccer teams also played a total of 96 soccer matches. Coaching and helping the children of both teams was encouraged, and no scores were taken, as it was a friendly festival focused on fun and participation. Sacred Heart College looks forward to hosting another fun and successful festival next year. Thanks to the Physical Education Department, coaches, teachers and PA parents who worked so hard to make this such a successful event.

PRE – PRIMARY SCHOOL Concert There are 9 more sleeps until our concert. We cannot wait! Look out for the costume requirements which will be given to you by your child’s teacher. Fun Day It would be greatly appreciated if you could invite some friends to join us for our Fun Day on 16 July. This is an opportunity to advertise our school and enjoy some fun activities with our parents and children. See Saw App By now you will have received documentation about the See Saw app. Ensure that you have this loaded on your phone or tablet, as this is an ideal way to communicate with us. Marist Leadership Conference Sue Jacobson attended this conference last week. It was an inspiring few days about rejuvenating our Marist Schools. It also gave us the opportunity to share our Reggio philosophy of teaching with our fellow Marists. This was very well received and evoked much interest. Thanks to Shannon and Sue for the excellent presentation. Pumpkin Fritters We had great fun on Friday in our outside restaurant cooking and eating pumpkin fritters. Thank you to all the chefs! 2
PRIMARY SCHOOL Labelling of Items: We remind parents that all items brought to school must be labelled, as this will help us locate missing items and prevent children from taking what does not belong to them. For this issue to be managed effectively, parents must ensure that everything your child brings to school is labelled. This includes all stationery, books, sports equipment, lunch boxes, juice or water bottles, school caps, hats or beanies etc. The class teachers have conducted a lesson on what constitutes theft, with the message that it will not be tolerated at the school. Theft constitutes serious misconduct and children will be taken through a disciplinary process should they be accused of stealing. Managing Social Media On Wednesday evening the High School is hosting a talk on digital citizenship and all parents in the Primary School have been invited to attend what promises to be a crucial talk. This is a must for parents in the Intermediate Phase, as we have been experiencing some serious issues in the Intermediate Phase regarding social media. The Primary School has banned all cell phones as there is no need for them at school because children have access to phones all day in the office and in Aftercare. The school believes that no child should have a cell phone until Grade 7, as they are developmentally not ready to manage the complexity that comes with being a responsible digital citizen. Marbles at School Grade 5K used part of their RELO lesson to come up with suitable marble- rules that they think are fair. Ms Picas discussed marbles in the assembly on Monday morning and used these rules as a guide. Location where marbles may be played: a) Foundation Phase: Sand area near netball poles b) Intermediate Phase: Sand area close to Mr Van Der Merwe’s house There must be no marbles played in the quads or corridors. The two designated spaces above are the only places to play marbles. Rules for looking after marbles that children need to follow: 1. Marbles must be stored in a labelled container or pouch. This pouch must be kept in your zipped school bag when it is not break. 2. Marbles must not be kept in pockets. 3. During break, marbles can be stored in your lunch bag. 4. You are responsible for your own marbles! 5. No trading or swapping of marbles may take place. 3
6. Rules during the game: - When you play your marble you must use a throw or a thumb flick. - If your opponent's marble is touched by your marble, then you win their marble. - If you lose your marble, and it was your last/only marble, you are out of the game.
