First Reconciliation: Saturday 23 July at 10:00 First Reconciliation for those children making their First Holy Communion this year will take place on Saturday in the College Chapel. We request that all families be seated by 09:50 so that we can start on time at 10.00. Tea will take place in the staff room after the service. We ask our school community to pray for these children as they take another step on their spiritual journey. From the Finance Department: Please ensure that your account is up-to-date as all fees for Term 2 must be paid by 5 August, and all school fees for 2016 must be settled by 31 October. Should your child be leaving the College, written notification, addressed to the section principal, must reach us by no later than 5 September 2016.

PRIMARY SCHOOL Grade 6 Core Skills Test: Friday 22 July The Grade 6s will be writing these IEB tests on Friday. All Grade 6 children must be at school on this day and need to bring 6 different coloured pencil crayons with them. Grade 5 Sleep Out: 2 August This year schools were allowed to participate in the CEO Sleep Out Challenge. One of our Grade 5 learner’s, Cassidi Opperman, has proposed that our school participate, specifically the Grade 5’s. The school in consultation with PACE have organised a SHC Sleep Out for the Grade 5 learners under the supervision of their parents. The Sleep Out will be Tuesday 2 August in the Macartin Centre from 20:00 until 06:00 Wednesday 3 August. Please be reminded that 3 August is Election Day and there will be no school. To participate there will be a donation of R100 per person and the funds raised will go to the Three2Six Education Project. All the Grade 5 learners received a letter yesterday with the details. FP Grade 2 and 3 Production The Grade 2 and 3 Productions are taking place next week. We look forward to seeing you at your child’s class performance. The event will be an intimate affair – one class at a time in the Old Chapel Theatre. This is designed to give you a closer look at your own child and to give you an opportunity to understand their creative journey. Tickets will be available at the door 30 minutes before the performance – R35 for adults; R15 for children and pensioners.

PRE – PRIMARY SCHOOL Puppet Show On Friday the children were treated to a puppet show which discussed the upcoming Olympics. Fun Day Thank you to everyone who joined us on this special day. It was wonderful to see our ‘Family Spirit’ displayed in all its diversity. We had fun climbing the jungle gyms, face painting and riding on the tractor. Of course, the surprise arrival of the fire department was the real highlight of the day. What an amazing parent body we have! Encourage your friends to become part of the Sacred Heart experience, as it is truly a unique school that prepares children for the 21st century in a diverse, multi-cultural country.

Television Please be aware of how much television your children watch. They certainly should not fall asleep whilst watching, and having a television in their bedrooms is not a good idea. Pre-Primary School children need the routine of an early night, preceded by a story and a cuddle in order to set the mood for a restful night’s sleep. Pre-Primary School Cluster Meeting On Thursday, our school will again be responsible for hosting various pre-primary schools for staff training. This week, Teacher Shannon Exner will be sharing her expertise on the Reggio philosophy of education and why we need to incorporate this into the preschools to facilitate critical thinking. Grade R Learners A deposit of R1000 is required in order to secure your child’s place in Grade 1 for 2017.
