Black Tie Fundraiser: ‘The Venue’ in Melrose Arch at 18:00 We are very proud that an alumnus, and previous head boy, Mr Sim Tshabala, is the host of this very special fundraising event in which we hope to raise funds for the Music, Art, Drama and Sport Centre. The venue is superb, the food delicious and the panel discussion promises to be insightful and inspirational. There are still some Gold (R16 000.00) and Silver (R15 000.00) tables available and we appeal to our parent body to support what promises to be an outstanding event. PRIMARY SCHOOL Condolences Our sincere condolences to Mrs Thomas and her family on the death of her mother this morning. May her soul rest in peace. We ask you to keep the family in your prayers at this very difficult and sad time. Grade 2 Spring Day Mass: Thursday 21st September at 07:45 Parents are welcome to join us for the first Mass of the term which has been prepared by the Grade 2 teachers and children. Thank you to the parents who donated flowers for the Chapel. Book Character Day and Heritage Day On Friday, 22 September, learners may come to school dressed as a character from a book. They must be able to tell their class who they represent and from which book they have taken their character. They may not dress up as a character from a TV show or from a movie. Alternatively, they may wear their traditional clothes on this day. Please 2
be advised that this is not a ‘civvies’ day, so what they wear must either represent a character from a book or their own traditional dress.
PRE – PRIMARY SCHOOL Productions Thanks go to Blue Group for a wonderful production on Friday. Please see our Facebook site for photographs. Purple Group’s production will take place on Friday, 22 September. Uniforms The weather has warmed up quickly. Do not dress your child in long-sleeved shirts/vests or polo necks under their school shirts. Please send a water bottle to school and make sure you cover your child in sunscreen before he/she arrives in the morning. The children have to wear hats for all outside play. School swimming will start on 8 October. Tigger Tiger Swim School Tigger Tiger is the new extra-mural swim school that will start classes on Monday. They will help change the children and take them to the swimming pool from 14:30 on Monday to Friday. They will then either be walked back to the Pre-Primary School or parents may collect them from the swimming pool. Please ask Rashida for an application form if you would like to make use of this facility. It is essential that all our children attend extra swimming lessons, either through the extra mural at school or on a private basis. Healthy Lunches This is a reminder to parents that we encourage healthy eating in the Pre-Primary School. Make sure your child receives a protein, fruit or vegetable included in their lunchbox. Carbohydrates should not be the only option available. Biltong, small blocks of cheese, nuts (no peanuts,) diced raw vegetables or fruit are a good option. No juice is permitted as we encourage the children to drink either milk or water. Heritage Day In celebration of Heritage Day on Monday we encourage all children to dress in their cultural clothing on Friday.
