s TODAY, WE STEP FORWARD WITH A BOLD VISION. A vision
which is faithful to who we are and lays the foundation for lives of meaning. A bold vision to grow decisively, be forward-thinking, and always provide a robust, rigorous, and relevant education for each and every student. Reflecting these aspirational goals, we strive to provide facilities that mirror the level of passion in our students and the level of excellence in our programs. And we remain firmly committed to the support of our exceptional faculty and staff, and the fulfillment of a fundamental premise to engage a diverse student body. In support of the mission of Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS), therefore, we have embarked upon an ambitious capital campaign—a campaign we hope every family will embrace to the best of their ability.

FAMILY FEELS INCREDIBLY BLESSED TO BE PART OF SUCH A FANTASTIC SCHOOL WITH THE ABSOLUTE BEST TEACHERS! WHENEVER WE TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THIS ‘FULL CIRCLE’ EXPERIENCE THEY ARE SO IMPRESSED! Sacred Heart education has evolved over generations, but our transformative philosophy—a commitment to educate the whole child—remains true and intact. Educating the whole child requires heart—an ability and willingness to teach much more than academic curricula. It requires meeting all students “where they are.” To do so, Sacred Heart educators seek to personally connect with each student—with ears, eyes, and hearts open—to share their own humanness, and themselves be receptive to learning. Relationships developed through this singular approach are what makes a Sacred Heart education so special.
8 | The Campaign for Sacred Heart Schools
Through the process of being fully present, Sacred Heart educators aspire to bring every child to their fullest potential. From preschool through high school, our faculty and staff commit to this philosophy. Many spend a significant portion of their careers here at Sacred Heart. Our families, too, commit to this visionary approach to education. More than 94 percent of Middle School students matriculate to Sacred Heart Preparatory. In fact, the SHP Class of 2018 included 27 graduates who began their educational careers in Sacred Heart preschool or kindergarten.

STUDENT ACCESS & ASSISTANCE 1 5 in
Through stringent fiscal management, SHS strives to keep tuition as affordable as possible. Nonetheless, the cost of tuition is beyond the reach of many families across a wide range of economic circumstances. Just as Sacred Heart aspires to serve students’ individual educational needs, the financial assistance program aspires to serve families of varying economic need. Seeking to admit qualified students across a broad range of backgrounds and experience, the program ensures that adequate funds are available each year to support the more than 20 percent of the student body annually receiving assistance.
Awards range from less than 10 percent of annual tuition to full tuition, all with the goal of maximizing access to qualified students. FUNDING PRIORITIES An increased endowment will: F Provide a reliable and dedicated source of funding for student financial assistance.

JAMES EVERITT FROM THE BEGINNING, SACRED HEART WAS INTENDED TO BE A PLACE WHERE ANY QUALIFIED STUDENT ATTRACTED TO OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY TO PAY, COULD FIND A HOME. THIS FUNDAMENTAL PREMISE REQUIRES AN UNWAVERING COMMITMENT TO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.

OF SACRED HEART EDUCATION AT EVERY AGE. St. Madeleine Sophie Barat wanted her schools to serve all students—those who could afford a boarding school education and those who could not. Her intention was that for each private school established, there would also be an attached “free” school for local children. Today, this vision is made manifest through a robust financial assistance program and a firm commitment to provide access to a Sacred Heart education to a wide range of students. The true gift of diversity—whether reflected in socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, or differences of any sort—
is that it enriches the educational experience for all students. Across campus and in classrooms, dialogue is strengthened by voices that articulate differing points of view and personal experiences. Every student is thereby exposed to and benefits from perspectives which may not have otherwise been heard, deepening understanding and opening minds to new ways of thinking. A courageous commitment to financial assistance which ensures and preserves access to a Sacred Heart education to the broadest number of students, is a win for everyone.
