THE SADDLEBACK
FRED WHITTON CHALLENGE This years battle against the Lake District proves this is one of the toughest Sportives out there This year was the first time I had the privilege of being involved with the Saddleback Fred Whitton Challenge. Still being somewhat of a ‘newbie’ here at Saddleback I wanted to see for myself if all the hype about this being one of the most difficult Sportives out there was true... it was! Travelling around on race day in one of the four service vans we provided, I got to see first hand the challenge facing these riders. Bikes were taking a battering and the service vans were kept busy fixing punctures, chains and many other problems. Our relationship with
The Fred Whitton Challenge is one of service, providing all the marketing material, mechanical support and ride signage, I felt immensely proud to be part of a Sportive that raises so much money for charity. Hearing many of the stories from the riders as to why or whom they were raising the money for was amazing! So what does next year hold? Possibly myself on a road bike in the crowd of tired, hurting riders still pushing to finish. Nick Cox Senior Graphic Designer

DAN MARTIN WINS LIEGE BASTOGNE Martin becomes second Irishman to win Liege - Bastogne Dan Martin, Garmin-Sharp, was reaping the aero and lightweight benefits of his favorite Castelli products, the Inferno Bibshorts and Climbers Jersey , when he attacked from a late escape and dropped Joaquim Rodríguez, Katusha, 400 meters from the finish. Martin becomes the second Irishman to win Liège-Bastogne-Liège since Sean Kelly in 1984. “I didn’t want to wait for the sprint and that is why I went at that point,” Martin said. It was a team victory for Garmin-Sharp after Ryder Hesjedal had set a high pace to keep the breakaway group of six out of sight of the chasing group. At 26, this was the biggest victory of Martin’s career, who also won the Tour of Catalonia and finished fourth in Flèche Wallonne.

VREDESTEIN TRICOMP I have been rolling through many pairs since joining three years ago. A great all-rounder and race tyre in which I can’t recall any failures during competition, or training! I like the simplicity of fit and forget, due to the puncture resistance and even ware features.

ENVE SWEEP MTB BARS I have been known to be a bit old school when it comes to my MTB.
Favourite Bike product? Enve stem Only changing to disc 2 years ago and riding with a 560mm bar. One of my first upgrades was the Enve sweep bar at 700mm wide. Not sure at first, but now couldn’t go back to anything narrower. They’ve transformed how the bike rides.
