What is Acne and what Causes it? Acne is a common skin condition that causes pimples and other bumps on your face and on your upper body. Acne is also caused by a buildup of dead skin cells, bacteria, and also dried sebum that blocks the follicles of your hair in the skin. Bumps, such as whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, cysts appear on the skin usually on the face, chest, shoulders and on your back. Common treatment can include antibiotics and creams applied to the skin for mild acne, also antibiotics can be taken by mouth for moderate acne it is the most common skin disease in the United States and it affects up to 80% of the population at some point in life.
Acne is caused by hormones, oily skin, and bacteria which can result in inflammation of hair follicles, the pores in the skin where your hair grows. Acne could be characterized by different types of abnormal growths. They can all vary in size and how severe they look, some types of acne go deeper into the skin than others do for example, blackheads are open comedone, whiteheads are closed comedones. The pimple is an inflamed closed comedone and are usually raised solid bumps. On the surface of the bumps they contain the pus. If the pimple is deeper, more firm and it contains pus it is called nodules. Lastly cysts are large pockets containing pus. Sometimes even larger, deeper pockets containing pus are called abscesses. Both the cysts and abscesses are pus-filled pockets, but the abscesses are sometimes larger and deeper. The sebaceous glands which secrete an oily substance, sebum, lie in the middle layer of skin, these glands are attached to the hair follicle. Sebum also with the dead skin cells, passes up from the sebaceous gland and hair follicle and then it goes out to the surface of the skin through the pores creating a type of pimple.

Acne can result when a collection of dried sebum, dead skin cells, and or bacteria gets clogged up in the hair follicles which then blocks the sebum from leaving through the pores. A blackhead then develops if the blockage is incomplete. A whitehead can then develops if the blockage is complete. The most common thing that triggers acne is puberty. Acne occurs only mainly during puberty, which is when the sebaceous glands are stimulated by the increasing hormone levels, especially the testosterone, resulting in excessive sebum production. When a person is in their early to mid 20s, hormone levels usually have decreased enough that acne lessens or disappears. However, up to 40% of women can get acne into their 40’s. Other conditions that involve hormonal changes can affect the occurrence of acne like being pregnant, or on your menstrual cycle, curtain drugs, also some products that you put on your face and wearing too tight of clothes. Lastly, when it is humid you create a lot of pimples and also when you sweat. Acne can occur with each menstrual period in a young women and may clear up or it can worsen during your pregnancy. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormone disorder that can disrupt the menstrual cycle and can trigger the acne making it worse. The use of certain drugs, particularly corticosteroids and anabolic steroids, can worsen acne or cause acne breakouts. There are many cosmetics, cleansers, and lotions that may worsen acne by clogging the pores in your skin. Acne
naturally varies in severity for most people, sometimes worsening or improving, finding the factors that may cause an outbreak is difficult. Acne is often worse in the winter and not as bad in the summer this is due to sunlight's anti-inflammatory effects. There is no relationship between acne and not washing your face, masturbation, sexual activity, or even dieting.
Bad Habits Which Cause Acne

cells are in the way of hair follicles. People with oily skin may be more prone to pimples because of their acne prone skin, but breaking bad habits can still help them and everyone prevent acne. The first bad habit is washing your skin too often. Even though it is important to keep your skin clean washing it too often will only make your acne
worse. What you should do instead is wash your face in the morning when you wake and at night before bed. The second bad habit is Vigorously scrubbing your skin. Scrubbing your skin with a washcloth, loofah, or harsh exfoliant can cause irritation and it could worsen your acne prone skin. To prevent acne, always wash up with only lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. The third bad habit is not cleaning your sweaty skin. After you've had a workout session or been outside in the sun your skin is going to be covered in sweat. Don't let the sweat dry on your skin but instead, you should wash your skin right after sweating or at least as soon as possible. The fourth bad habit is picking at your skin and popping your pimples. While it could be hard to resist to pick or pop your pimples, doing this can cause cause redness from squeezing the pus deeper into the skin and at times they turn into scars. The last bad habit is skipping shampoo. If you have oily hair, that oil in your hair can go down onto your face which can cause pimples.
