Dental Implant: Types, Working, Advantages

What is a Dental Implant A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line that allows your dentist to mount replacement teeth or a bridge into that area.

Working of Dental Implant Dental implant is a titanium post that is placed into the jawbone where it functions like an artificial tooth root. After this, a naturallooking replacement tooth, usually made from porcelain is attached to the implant post. The post will integrate with the jaw overtime with a biological process known as osseointegration. The titanium fuses to jawbone because it is biocompatible with the body. When the implant is firm and stable, oral surgeons place a customized crown on an abutment attached to the implant.

Types of Dental Implant Below mention are the types of dental implant.  Endosseous Implant.  Subperiosteal Implant.  Transmandibular Implant.  Plate Form Implants.  Two-Stage Dental Implants.  Single-Stage Implants.  Immediate Loading.

Endosteal Implant Endosteal Implants are surgically implanted directly into the jawbone and once the surrounding gum tissue has healed, a second surgery is needed to connect a post to the original implant.

Subperiosteal Implant: Subperiosteal implants are commonly used in single stage procedures. These are made out of a metal framework that is fixed onto the jawbone just below the gum tissue. The main benefit of this type of implant is that it can firmly grip the dentures of people who do not have enough bone height.

Recovery Process: After having dental implant surgery there are some important instruction that need to be follow. Bleeding: Seeing blood in saliva is common during the first 24 hours following surgery. Dentists suggest biting on gauze pads to lessen the blood flow and have control over the situation. Pain: The anesthetic wears off shortly after the dental implant surgery. The patient should start taking pain medication before this occurs.

Antibiotics: Patients should take all recommended antibiotics to prevent infection at the surgical site. After 24 hours, patients should start using the prescribed oral rinse twice daily along with a warm salt water rinse. Diet: It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids and consume soft foods during initial days, but patients can start a normal diet again as soon as they feel capable of doing so. Smoking: Patients should refrain from smoking during the healing time.
