❖ Margins for notes - The page margins are provided for you to reflect on Bible verses as you spend time with God. You can use them to jot down outlines for meditations and sermons based on biblical texts. You can also use them for journaling, recording answered prayers, and in many other ways that help you express your creativity.

❖ Transmedia feature - This Bible has a unique transmedia feature: QR codes linked to various articles. You can access the full content of those articles and other related links using a cell phone or tablet. Thanks to this resource, more articles can be included and updated over time, making the Bible more accessible.

When scanning is activated, a notification of a web link will appear on your screen. Tap this notification, and the content will appear. You may need to go to the Settings app and enable QR code scanning if nothing happens. If QR code scanning is not an option in your settings, unfortunately, your device cannot scan QR codes automatically. You can download a QR code scanning app from your app store. Most of them are free. Install the one you prefer, scan your Bible, and enjoy the reading.

❖ Added resources - On the last pages of the Bible, you will find some special QR codes that will give you access to a complete series of Bible studies for women (Wonderful Grace), as well as a variety of resources and Bible texts for personal study.

age, social group, and culture. I think the best advice for a mother I have found in the Bible is in the book of Proverbs.

7/11/22 11:58

Over and over Solomon writes words of wisdom that we can apply to our relationship with our children.

❖ Seek first the Lord. “Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established” (Prov. 16:3). Having a daily relationship with God is vital to my role as a mother. Each day I ask for the fruit of the Spirit in my life so that I can live these as I relate to my children. And I surrender my children in the hands of God each day, because although the challenges they face are beyond what I as a mother can fix, God is able to do all things.

Women of Praye

❖ No personal satisfaction will be complete if our prayer life is not complete.

❖ No marital satisfaction will be complete if our prayer life is not complete.

❖ No relationship with our children will be successful if our prayer life is unsuccessful.

❖ No domestic service will be enjoyable if our prayer life is not enjoyable.

❖ No professional success will be great if our prayer life is not great.

❖ No testimony will be efficient if our prayer life is not efficient.

❖ No work for God will achieve results if our prayer life does not produce results in us.

❖ No battle against self will be won if we don’t constantly wrestle with God in our prayer life.

❖ No forgiveness will be genuine if our prayer life is not genuine.

❖ No woman will become virtuous if our prayer life is not virtuous. We will never be greater than our prayer life. May we allow the Spirit of God to work in our lives, molding us into His likeness, through our constant and uninterrupted prayer life, the starting point of our excellence!

Woma of the Virtuous

MIRIAN MONTANARI GRÜDTNER

Dear God, You are the most important thing in my life! Help me think about You every day, as soon as I wake up, whether it’s talking with You through prayer, reading Your Word, observing nature, which is Your creation. . .

If I become similar to what I most hold on, think of, and adore, help me not to waste my time in front of what does not add virtues to my life: other people’s defects, slander, envy, strife, offenses, injustices, discouragement, anxiety, fear, anguish, mediocrity . . .

I don’t want to be depressed, sour, bitter, envious, spiteful, quarrelsome, anxious, discouraged, unmotivated, fearful, miserable, selfish, inflexible, intolerant, aggressive, reactive. . .

Where else can I go?

I want to be better! I want to look at the bright side of things and not be tied down by my losses; I want to be physically and emotionally healthy; I want to learn from my mistakes; I want to be a motivating influence on my loved ones and those who cross my path; I want to be above offenses and injustices; I want to know how to say no when I need to, without hostility; I want to know how to express emotions, feelings, and thoughts with assertiveness; I want to learn how to repay with good those who have done me wrong . . . I want and need to grow! It is only by going to You as the Source of Wisdom every day, isn’t it God?

Please hear my prayer every day! Entreat me to accept this growth because it is uncomfortable and can hurt a lot. Put humility in me so that I can name my faults and admit that I have much room for improvement. Stay with me during the activities of the day—my interactions, work, battles, defeats, and victories, and keep talking to me, giving me insight into how I should act. . .

Thank you, God! Thank you very much! Amen!

BOOK OF GENESIS

Because of the horrifying tragedy of the temptation and fall in Eden’s Garden, not but womanhood itself has been maligned. But this seems to subtly imply that God was somehow a little deficient, or even mistaken, in designing the woman. wondrous creation of Eve has to be reconsidered. Women have to rejoice in the mir- their glorious origin by the hands of God Himself. Textual affirmations include: God’s words at Creation reveal gender equality. Male and female together are given rulership (dominion) over the newly created world. Both represent God’s image: “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Gen. 1:26, 27).

separate descriptions in Genesis of the creation of Adam and Eve con- the same number of words in the original language. The woman’s cre- ation is deliberately portrayed with equal emphasis as that of man’s. With Eve’s creation, the first six days of creation week came to an end. word “helpmeet” or “helper” in Genesis 2:20 cannot be used to imply Eve’s inferiority to Adam. The Hebrew term translated “helpmeet” or “help- is used many times in the Old Testament of God Himself, often referring the strongest one who gives help. Furthermore, suggesting from the Creation sequence that Adam is superior to Eve, Adam would have to be subservient to the animals, for they were created before he was.

Theperiodofhistoryofthisgroupofbooksoftenoverlapsthehistoricalbooks. However, notice the distinctive and obvious trend in narrative details. There is basic gender equality in the books of Moses: both women and men described as good looking (Rebekah, Rachel, Joseph,David,etc.);bothgenderscook(AbrahamandSarah,JacobandEsau,etc.);both

ders are shepherds (Jacob, Rachel, David, etc.). Spouses consult each other when making family decisions (as we saw with Sarah and Abraham). Jacob tells his wives of God’s mand to return to Bethel and recounts the poor treatment he has received at the of their father. The women are not afraid to oppose their father on his own land, affi the Lord’s word against him. They bid their husband to hearken to the Lord’s directive, aware that this divine purpose could involve the sundering of family attachments. not presented as a husband who issues commands, making decisions alone. Moreover, both men and women occupy positions of leadership in the early of God’s covenant people. But when Israel begs for a king “to be like other nations,” grants their petition. However, He has Samuel spell out the far-reaching results experience, one of which is how family ties will be drastically affected. And indeed, is what happens during the era of the monarchy. The narrative reflects political and wars, etc. Women essentially disappear. However, women “reappear” in the New Testament Gospels, where Jesus seeks nudgeHispeopletoequalitybetweenwomenandmenHecreatedinthebeginning. even in the first century of the church, women played prominent roles, as we BOOK OF JOEL God prophesied through Joel that one day “your sons and your daughters esy,” both genders. Since God gave this prophecy, and both women and men for the conversion of souls, women shouldn’t be hindered. No time should ed resisting the fulfillment of this prophecy.

ELIZABETH: When Luke mentions Zechariah descending from the priestly line (1:5), he immediately states, “His wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron.” This is a rare time a priest’s wife is named in Scripture. Luke goes right on to say that both of them were “upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly” (1:6). Luke’s pointed inclusion of the word “both” highlights Elizabeth’s godly character. What a high commendation! She had been childless, but in spite of this, her faith remained strong. And God responded to the devout life of Elizabeth and her husband by giving them a son who would be the forerunner of the Messiah Himself—and of whom Christ would say, “there is none greater” (Matt. 11:7-11). An angel announces the end of Elizabeth and Zechariah’s childlessness, and tells them that when these things occur, Zechariah will experience joy and gladness; many will rejoice with him (1:14); and this child will be great in the eyes of the Lord, filled with the Holy even from his mother’s womb (1:15). The angel also mission: he will turn the
