Connecting the Communities North of 45th

After weeks of gathering ideas and community support the “University Hill” project is well underway. Partnering with SDOT, the Department of Neighborhoods, EcoReps, University Greenways, and stakeholders through out the N45th community the initial transition of this green space will begin April 17th. SDOT will be doing some work in the week leading up to this big day to kick-start the transformation. We are looking for volunteers to transform this unused land into a functional green space for the community. Gloves and tools will be provided. There will also be light snacks for the event. The site cleaning will be 10am-4pm Friday April 17th at the intersection of 47th & 22nd. Time for Spring Cleaning! The “U-District Clean-up” is celebrating its 22nd year on Saturday, May 9th. Each year, over one hundred neighbors, students, families, churches, local businesses, and non-profits give the U-District extra shine just in time for the University District Street Fair (May 16 – 17 this year). The Husky Neighborhood Interns have been involved with the planning of the event since 2008. Past Spring Cleans have been a tremendous success in providing a family-friendly event that helps make our neighborhood beautiful at the same time. The event also boasts the best trash contest in the city, with past categories including Most Romantic, Best Mother’s Day Present, and Most Ave-Worthy. Winners of each category (as decided by a panel of esteemed neighborhood judges) will receive a special prize. The Clean-up’s partners include Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Public Utilities, The U District Partnership, University District Business Improvement Association, Neighborhood Farmers’ Market Alliance, University District Food Bank, the University of Washington, University Heights, and the Sanctuary Art Center. Grab a few friends and family members and form a team, or just come to University Heights the morning of and join a group. Continental breakfast & check in will be from 9 – 9:30 am, followed by the clean-up from 9:30 am – 12:00 pm. At noon, we get back together for pizza and the infamous trash contest from noon to 1:30 pm. Please come join us!
