Training School – Saffron Proteomics Parma, September 23-25, 2014 EU-COST Action FA 1101 –Saffronomics –“OmicsTechnologies for Crop Improvement, Traceability, Determination of Authenticity, Adulteration and Origin in Saffron”, in collaboration with the Italian Mass Spectrometry Society, under the sponsorship of the Interdepartment Centers SITEIA-PARMA and CIM, University of Parma, is organizing the Training School on Proteomics approaches to saffron analysis. The main aim of this training school will be to present the different proteomic methods applied to the characterization of saffron quality and origin, and the identification of saffron protein pattern, under different conditions. The basic principles and latest tools of gel-free and gel-based methods, 2D electrophoresis, MALDI TOF-TOF and LC-mass spectrometries will be presented. Practical sections will be carried out on saffron samples. In addition, gel scanning, analysis and comparison as well as protein identification from tryptic digestions will be practically demonstrated. Total number of admitted candidate trainees will be 18, with 9 that will be reimbursed by COST office and 2 by the Italian Mass Spectrometry Society. Only 13 trainees will be admitted to both oral and practical activities. Candidates should complete the ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM, a short CV and a Motivation Letter for admittance at the training school. The registration deadline is July 2. Rules for electing the candidates are based on both “first come first served” and on the basis of previous experience in protein analysis, electrophoresis and mass spectrometry. Acceptance will be communicated on July 11. How to arrive to Parma Parma is connected by train to Milan or Bologna (about 1-1.5 hour), both cities hosting international airports. Parma has a small airport with a limited number of international connections (RyanAir from Stansted). Parma city center is within walking distance from the train station. Parma is on the highway A1 (Milan-Rome).
School location CIM – Interdepartment Measurement Center, within the CAMPUS, University of Parma, Viale delle Scienze 23/A, 43124 Parma, Italy (see map). The CAMPUS is at the edges of Parma in the direction Langhirano. It can be accessed from the South beltway at Exit 15. From the train station and downtown Bus line 7, 14, 21 (direction University CAMPUS). Get off at the second stop within the CAMPUS.
