SAG Awards Voting Privileges Only active, paid-up union members are given the opportunity to vote for the recipients of the Screen Actors Guild Awards' coveted Actor statuette. Also, For Your Consideration and nomination screenings/screeners are only available to active, paid-up SAG-AFTRA members. November 2017 dues must be paid by Friday, Dec. 1, in order for members to be eligible to vote for the SAG Awards and receive screeners. Visit the SAG Awards at sagawards.org. Local News Upcoming Closure Dates The Chicago Local will be closed for construction Monday, Dec. 18 through Monday, Jan. 1. The local will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 2. The KMRC will remain open during this time, excluding for the following dates: Monday, Dec. 25 Tuesday, Dec. 26 Friday, Dec. 29 Monday, Jan. 1 Kaufherr Center New Office Number We are pleased to inform you that the Kaufherr Center now has a direct office number: 312-526-3895. Please dial this line for all inquiries. Thank you. Blood Drive/Flu Shot Event The SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local will not be hosting a blood drive/flu shot event this year. Please be sure to make arrangements at another facility. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Tomorrow! - New Member Orientation New members represent the future for SAG-AFTRA. The more knowledgeable they are, the stronger our union and all members are. The goal of the New Members Subcommittee of the Chicago Local's Community Outreach, Community Organizing committee is to educate, engage and empower professional actors from the moment they become union members. The new member orientation event is only one part of that process. Topics covered include every step involved in the union experience: from initiation fees and the dues structure, to the correct way to execute member reports and contracts. Other areas include agents and commissions, casting directors, resolving claims, health coverage, set demeanor, committees, staff and a variety of member benefits. New member orientations are not just for new members. Whether you joined yesterday or 20 years ago, all members in good standing are welcome. Plan now to attend the next new membership orientation and stay informed. When: Tuesday, Nov. 14 5:30 p.m. - Dinner 6 - 8 p.m. - Orientation Where: Kaufherr Members Resource Center (KMRC) 1 East Erie, Suite 660 Chicago, IL 60611 Park at 10 East Ontario. Enter on the north side of Ontario between Wabash and State, and then take a ticket. When you sign in, you may purchase a four-hour ticket for $13 cash, $14 Visa, MasterCard or American Express payment. You will need both tickets to exit the parking structure. The event is only open to paid-up SAG-AFTRA members in good standing, no guests are allowed. Parents/guardians of performers under 18 years old are welcome. You must bring your current membership card or digital card on the app (paid through Oct. 31, 2017 or April 30, 2018) for admittance. Chicago Local President Charles Andrew Gardner (l) and fellow local board members celebrate th Richard Steele at the 17 Annual Black Excellence Awards on Oct. 30. Steele was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the art community of Chicago. 2017 DCASE Individual Artists Program Grants The Individual Artists Program aims to assist Chicago's professional artists in creating work that elevates their careers and brings value to the City of Chicago. Project-based grants will be made to resident Chicago artists over the age of 18 across numerous disciplines and through six funding categories. Click here for the application and guidelines. The application deadline is Dec. 1, 2017, at 5 p.m. CST. All applicants are encouraged to attend an application assistance workshop. Attendance is only required if you have not attended a workshop in 2015 or 2016. The free workshop schedule is as follows: Workshops at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E.
