I always seem to be a little caught in the middle. Since childhood my “thing” was art. As a kid growing up in beautiful San Clemente, California, I could sit for hours on end drawing or painting and it has shaped who I am. Discovering Graphic Design within these past few years has opened up a whole new world for me. My love for fine art has blossomed into a fascination for design. Transforming my sketches or
doodles into a digital piece has become my favorite process, which brings a personal and unique element to my work. Helping clients or companies communicate with care and beauty is what I aspire to do with the gifts I’ve been given. I’ve realized that maybe being caught in the middle isn’t such a bad thing after all.

TRENDS THROUGH THE DECADES Trends Through the Decades explores the various styles found in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s. By keeping the format of this publication consistent, it allows for the unique colors and textures to shine through. With the design mirroring a fashion catalog, it gives the viewer an opportunity to learn about each era clearly and precisely. Quotations and references to the icons and music of that time creates a complete picture of that generation, which helped form the fashion and fads of those years. Each page of Trends Through the Decades has a symbol that represents that era. From psychedelic flowers, to silver glitter, to simple denim, each era has various elements that make it completely unique. Aside from descriptions about each time period, they also have a few facts listed near the bottom that go more in depth. A palette of six colors is listed on each page that is again specific to the generations.

LAGUNA BEACH
The Laguna brand is very much about being adventurous, creating memories, and feeling absolutely alive! Finding inspiration in the natural foliage that can be found throughout the city, the brand’s colors are a variety of green hues with a pop of pale pink. Photography plays a vital role, especially Polaroids to be specific. As you’re looking around beautiful Laguna, be sure to take a peak at your feet. You’re bound to see imprints of palm branches that will lead you to any beach you want to visit. From the clear waters, the delicious food, to the warmth of the California sun, there’s endless possibilities to “Wander Away” in Laguna Beach! Various designs were created for Polaroid film and packaging was in turn created to hold the photos. The Laguna Beach brand also includes lamppost banners to signify each beach, plane banners, stationery, and a website.

CHILDREN’S BOOK With this children’s book, the goal was to reflect the style of a coloring book. Simple shapes and bright colors make up the characters, their environments, and decorative elements of the book. Along with the purple haired little boy, children can learn just how lovely the ocean is and how harmless the sea creatures can actually be through friendly character design and unique ink patterns. Each texture was created through a rolling technique and the combining of bright shades. A sans-serif font was chosen, as it is the easiest for a child to read and comprehend without the distraction of overly decorative text. This book was created in partnership with the Point Loma Nazarene University Children’s Literature class. The short poem involves a boy learning about ocean safety, sharks, and surfing. My hopes for this book was to bring comfort to children afraid of the sea, and create a new fascination for children who already have a peaked interest in the ocean and the extraordinary creatures that live in it.

GOLDEN MEMORIA
“Golden Memoria is very much inspired by alternative music. With influences from old and new bands like Coldplay, R.E.M., Nirvana, and Young the Giant, the playlist consists of perfect songs for a car ride. Jesse Ledoux is a major artist that was the inspiration for the art style. The use of dark colors with other worldly objects and shapes match perfectly with the vibe of this playlist. When naming this album, the city where I grew up was brought to mind. Driving down to the pier at the golden hour of the day, with these songs blaring from the car seemed to be a lovely memory: a Golden Memoria.

Watercolor, pen and ink, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign all played a part in the creation of this album cover. As all of these elements worked together, a fictional world was created in which creatures appear from walls with unique textures.
Music has played an immense role in my life, ever since I started learning piano at age five. I’ve learned that the most impactful music tells a story that takes you back to your own memories. I have used this specific playlist to tell a story through this whimsical art style.

PERSONAL BRAND A significant aspect about my personal style is my fascination with the balance between femininity and edge. One of the major themes of my personal brand is the floral pattern. Each petal has been hand painted with watercolor in muted and pastel tones. I chose to leave some sections unpainted, to show linework and to represent the early processes of art that ultimately lead you to your goals. Every step you take and every line you sketch has put you where you are in this moment. Client | Self-Initiated Product | Branding Typeface | Avenir and Bodoni 72

By keeping most of the brand quite minimalistic and black and white, it allows for the flowers to stand out. This can be seen with the postcards: the front is completely black with white type inspired by fashion magazines while the back is bordered by the hand painted flowers. Similar elements can be seen on the letterhead and even on the envelope. I specifically chose soft touch paper for my business cards to represent the softer side of my brand, not to mention this specfic paper definitely appeals to the senses.

CREATION CARE WEEK
Creation Care Week at Point Loma Nazarene University is a time when students and faculty can bring awareness to environmental issues. This year, the Graphic Design department played an important role in visuals and creating unique ways to display information. Environmental and print designs were created, along with an installation piece and a video. My specific project was a poster that gave facts about wildfires. It is a very illustrative piece that uses type in various styles and shapes. It was displayed in the Love Gallery at PLNU alongside other student posters. The colors for this poster emanate the essence of fire without using the literal and expected crimson red, bright orange and yellow; instead using hues of pink. Many hand drawn symbols are seen throughout this piece that represent different bits and pieces about fires.
All of these projects combined made this year’s Creation Care Week one of the most impactful yet. Bringing awareness to these issues will bring our campus to quicker and better solutions.
Shown here is the Love Gallery containing our posters, an informative video, and Creation Care Week T-shirts for students to take. Sets of stairs throughout the campus were spray painted with facts, while ribbons hanging from an installation piece represented pledges taken by students and faculty.

SENIOR SHOW
With all of our college careers coming to an end, there are so many emotions that flood your heart. Excitement, fear, curiosity, and eagerness for what is to come. These are the moments to reach for the stars and take those giant leaps towards things that seem unattainable. By leaving our comfortable home at Point Loma, we have the opportunity to shoot for the moon. The poster, Facebook cover, Instagram post, and postcard illustrate this theme while still being very straight forward and informational. 8 FASHION BLOG
The summer before my freshman year of college, I decided to start a fashion blog. I’ve always loved fashion, but never had a way to express it. Through blogging, I incorporate photography, photo editing, writing, and networking all on one platform. My blog has also created a lovely online community of people who can learn about the products I post and who have many of my same interests. I imagined creating a pop-up shop at a retail store like Nordstrom and what kinds of products I would include. These products, my blog, and personal brand are very much tied together and cohesive elements can be seen throughout. Not only does my blog cover fashion and beauty, but I also write extensively about where I’ve traveled, new restaurants I’ve visited, and various experiences I’ve had throughout my college years. I’ve learned through writing about these adventures that readers from all around the world can find my content intriguing. Some of the places or products that I find normal in my day to day life could be something completely new and exciting to someone half way across the globe. In this way, blogging and sharing my own thoughts has opened my mind and heart to different people and cultures.

A few specific products that would be included in my pop up shop are a poster, a perfume bottle, and shopping bags specific to my brand. My blog and this shop especially have a target audience of people from the ages of thirteen to thirty. The poster is a perfect edition to a bedroom or office space, while the perfume has a lovely scent of lavender and rose with a stunning pink tint. Take both of these items home with any style of shopping bag you’d like, as there are three different styles and sizes to choose from. The possibilities are endless!

THANK YOU!
FAMILY To my mom, dad, and sister who have done nothing but supported me and loved me through this entire process. Not once have they doubted me or my abilities as an artist and for that I couldn’t be more grateful.
POINT LOMA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY Thank you to the PLNU Art Department (my home away from home), specifically Lael Corbin and Eugene Harris, who expanded my world by showing me around Europe. Also to David Adey, who helped me realize that you can fall completely in love with both art and design. To Courtney Mayer, who has taken us through this hectic portfolio process.
PRINTERS To the patient and helpful staff at Clearstory, Steve and the entire Reprographics team, and everyone in the Mac Lab who’ve assisted me throughout the years.
REVIEWERS The Point Loma Graphic Design Review would not be possible each year without the selflessness of the reviewers who come to speak with us young designers. Thanks to every one of you!
ALL BECAUSE OF HIM Last but certainly not least, I give all glory to God. The creative gifts He has given me have shaped my life in the most incredible and unimaginable ways; for that, I give him complete credit.
