Dating back to the original RP in 1982, chief rod designer Don Green wanted to allow casters to be able to delicately present casts off the tip while simultaneously having access to the reserve of power in the lower sections of the rod. Affectionately nicknamed the "LITTLE" ONE by our internal team, this small water rod takes ultra-light fly fishing to a new level of performance. Pike and Musky are big, toothy critters that don’t mess around, so we’ve built two rods every bit as serious. Taller cousins to our BASS II family of rods, these 9’ 10 and 11-weight rods use their added length to great advantage. Designed to maximize the inherent strength of Generation 5 technology to slide, lift and throw heavier intermediate and sink-tip lines and bulky, airresistant flies, the PIKE and MUSKY rods never back down from a fight. But, because it can take endless casts to entice these stealthy predators from their lairs, these rods are anything but bullies to cast. These surprisingly well-mannered rods are tapered with great power toward the butt to allow for quick loading, minimal false casting and to smoothly shoot the fly out toward that submerged log. Only, that’s no log.

The BASS II is an advanced performance rod that generates higher line speeds, provides greater accuracy and easier line pick up. This lighter weight bass rod has a very smooth feel, but with maximum leverage to fight aggressive predators and pull big fish from cover. These rods perform the job of line pick up, back-cast, and redelivery with no false cast needed. It is the perfect tool for accurately casting big, wind-resistant flies from a kayak, canoe and other small personal craft. It’s also the best choice for fishing in mangroves and salt marshes where accuracy in close quarters is difficult with standard length rods. BASS II is versatile for many different species and conditions. All BASS II rods come with a perfectly weighted and tapered Sage fly line.
