RE-GEN FARM RETREAT
December 2020 Instructor: Nicole Sylvia Individual project This proposal represents a transitional zone in-between a mass agricultural shift: An educational farmland retreat and sanctuary, where visitors encounter and reflect on production methods of the present, and become exposed (and encouraged to contribute) to new regenerative agricultural practices. This new space is superimposed onto the site of an old dairy farm.

Plan of Farm Retreat 4
1. VISITOR CENTRE; follows the form of the old cattle barn.
The raised structure provides an initial, overall view of the farm. The visitor then descends down a set of stairs, arriving at level to the resident animals. View of farm from Visitor Centre

2. DINING HALL; an open structure of glass and wood. Guests sit down to dine parallel to the animal feeding and drinking grounds.
3. COMMUNITY KITCHEN; follows the form of the circular milking parlour that once stood on the site. The structure is raised on pillars, making room for compost production below.
6
4. COMMUNITY CENTRE; provides interior space for food experimentation, and outdoor space for reflection. Inward sloping roof collects rain water, used for irrigation throughout the farm.
5. GUEST CABINS; provides refuge for the visitors, while allowing for playful moments of interaction with the resident animals.

CYLINDER PARK RE-IMAGINING PLAY
September 2020 UNI Shortlisted competition entry Group project: team of 4 Competition brief: design resourceful and modular playgrounds for refugee camps. Cylinder Park is composed of a kit of parts inspired by the endless possibilities of the humble bucket and its cylindrical form that can be stretched, stacked and multiplied. I created a series of renderings depicting different assemblies.

DRAWING MACHINE MOBILE WORK/LIVE SPACE February 2021 Instructor: Bill Petchet Individual project A traveling art gallery that self produces the display. A wooden box contains a drawing apparatus at its centre that records the motions of the host’s travels. When stationary, it opens up into a platform, revealing canvas clad frames that emulate the pages of a sketchbook. These expand to shelter the artwork and its viewers, and at night, encloses the host and their belongings.

Study models informed the mechanics of the shelter within the parameters of the box.

EXHIBITION HOUSE WORK/LIVE SPACE April 2021 Instructor: Bill Petchet Individual project A community art gallery/residence, limited to the area of two parking spots in the downtown West End. The design is informed by the movement of light. It was important to let enough light into the gallery space, without jeopardizing privacy in the living space. Balance was achieved by playing with material translucency and spacial organization. C

EXCAVATION FORM-BUILDING EXCERCISE March 2020 Instructor: Travis Hanks Individual project Exploring form-building from a given plan, through casting with Rockite. Moulds of the negative space were hand cut from foam blocks. Each cast piece is then stacked and positioned within the base to form dynamic spaces that experiments with material texture, enclosure and lighting.
