This is a professional portfolio to outline all works carried out during my experience at Glenn Howells Architects. During my experience there, I worked on three projects, two of which were residential projects that formed part of wider master plans and the other being a commercial project in Birmingham, which re-uses a Grade II* listed building to create new office spaces.

LONDON CITY ISLAND (PHASE 1) Located on a 4.7 ha brown field site, London City Island is set to be one of London’s newest and most exciting neighbourhoods, providing a new experience in culture and contemporary living. Since taking over as lead architects, Glenn Howells, have defined the islands distinctive architectural character, by using singular colours to accentuate the brickwork facade. Phase 1 is currently on site with four out of ten of the residential blocks under construction. _ London City Island forms the majority of my portfolio from Glenn Howells – working on the project throughout 2014 and once again during the summer of 2015, before I left in October. In my role I worked on the project as part of the team responsible for delivering interior drawing packages for tender and construction stage.

CATFORD GREEN CATFORD STADIUM Forming part of the wider Catford Green Masterplan, GHA have re-evaluated design and massing solutions for three of the thirteen blocks on Barrat London’s masterplan. `They have set out to increase the number of units and bring the proposal in line with current Mayoral standards. With planning applications for all three blocks submitted in Summer 2015, GHA are currently preparing tender information for the projects due construction. _ In June 2015, I returned to GHA after my Part 2 to work on the planning submission for Catford Green – a set of midrise blocks towards the end of the Catford Masterplan – and Catford Stadium – an 18 storey tower, helmed as the masterplans key building. Working purely on elevations, gave me to opportunity to really engage with the projects facade design – Block T and U especially, which is outlined by the relationship of the primary grid and horizontal band, which is expressed by the rhythm of the recessed fenestration.

BIRMINGHAM ASSAY OFFICE Glenn Howell’s reworking of the Grade II listed Assay Office in Birmingham, will hope to maintain the heritage and character of the Victorian construct and “future proof it for modern working methods”. Recently gaining planning consent, tender information has been issued for the project’s due construction. _ Although this was the project I spent the shortest amount of time working on – I found it by all means to be the most exciting. Working on the tender package of this Grade II Listed facade, allowed me to get to grips with the projects detail elements. Forming contemporary openings to the front and rear elevations, gave me the opportunity to engage with the application of re-usable architecture. The project also made me conscious and aware of the various methods and options for brick layering. Seeing and understanding the heritage and application of course laid in English Bond allowed me to develop a real appreciation of the various patterns that brick can achieve.
