THE CONNECTION
The buildings are arranged around a central Urban Plaza that is the focus point in the campus, that attracts people to the center. The buildings are designed in such a way that view points/vistas are created from each block in the campus. These three blocks are interconnected to each other by ‘The Connection’ which is a glass walkway that can serve as a potential exhibition gallery purpose and also provide the user with a good aesthetic view for their required art forms.

staircase as a design element The design is rich with staircases both in the exterior as well as the interior as it is believed that the most underrated communal space is a Staircase. In this design, it has been shown how a staircase can play various elements in being an interactive corner in any part of the building. For example, the grand entrance to the auditorium, and the staircase leading to the entrance of the digital media block both create vibrant atmospheres by such a simple element such as staircase that is used in everyday life.

Each block consists of minimum three levels with the different user areas zoned accordingly. The public areas including reception, recital halls, workshop areas are zoned in the ground floor as one enters, and as the number of floors keep adding, the privacy keeps increasing: First floor consists of spaces that can be used for informal gatherings for brainstorming sessions, the second floor consists of more intimate spaces like recording studios and conference spaces. The third and fourth floor consist of individual pods and private working areas where one can focus on their art work without disturbance from the others. In addition to this, ‘Huddle Spaces’ are provided in each floor and at every connecting space between two blocks where the exhibits from the respective art works are displayed in a unique manner to the ones entering into the block, which in turn increases the user interaction.

auditorium The auditorium plays a major part in the campus being a central area of focus as one passes through the busy road of Sholinganallur. Being a commercial project, the Auditorium plays an eminent role in the attraction of people towards the campus. Being the heart of interaction of different types of performing arts, importance was given to maximum interaction of the users that come to the complex. This has been achieved by incorporating a grand entry with a flight of stairs that vary in the heights of the risers which has been made use of as comfort seating . This enables the users to feel a sense of grandeur and yet, be able to bask in the comfort provided and enhance the interaction between the people.

PERMEABILITY OF GROUND PLANE
The three art blocks are connected at different levels by ‘The Connection’ which provides a separate character to itself, creating an interesting pathway beneath it which can be used as a leisure meeting space for the users as seating is provided as well. The glass box can also be used in terms of aesthetics for content creators.
Maximum transparency is achieved throughout the campus b easier approach and navigation throughout the campus for the
by keeping the ground plane permeable which also helps in e user.
SEMI-OPEN PERFORMANCE AREA
The vista created in the music block is the outdoor performance area with grand staircase comfort seating which directly outlooks to the urban plaza. It is covered with a steel truss and a polycarbonate finish which provides shade and is still essential to hang decorative lighting from the truss.
hybrid housing nungambakkam Nungambakkam, a rapidly developing neighborhood in the centre of the city consists of rigidly designed zones. The proposal focuses on creating an environment that is flexible and accommodate varied groups of people and tend to their individual needs. The concept is particularly innovative because it completely separates the working and living conditions modes from one another, while allowing them to coexist under one roof or be connected together, thus contributing more sustainable urban structure.
Constantly changing living conditions also demand forward looking types of housing with residential designs that are as multi-purpose, expandable and easy to reduce in size or split into separate parts. Hybrid Houses include the creation of architectural prototypes that interpreted a new objective of living and working under one roof and translated their changing demands into adaptable layouts.
documentation
morphology The study seeks to understand the spatial structure and character of Nungambakkam area, by examining the patterns of its component parts and the ownership or control and occupation. In addition to this, analysis of physical form focuses on street pattern and building pattern were also done. The historical maps, right from 100 years back were collected and evolution of settlements in the area was clearly documented and analysed, co-ordinating with the Heritage team as well.
nolli map A Nolli Map is a two-dimensional plan drawing used to understand and document the accessibility and flow of space within a city. The adjacent sheet shows the ratio of building footprint to open spaces in the selected area. These open spaces are further subdivided into categories like green areas, water bodies, unused open spaces, etc. These are in turn documented in a chronological order and then analyzed with the rules and regulations that cater to the same context.
street elevation The adjacent sheet shows the categorization of buildings based on their heights ranging from Single Story to higher than G+7. This mapping clearly exhibits the character and socioeconomic condition of Nungambakkam. This is aided with detailed street elevations of two roads of Nungambakkam, one being the main connecting road, Uthamar Gandhi Salai and other being a residential street, Noor Veerasamy Street which in turn throws light on the socioeconomic perspective of the area of Nungambakkam.
SITE
The site is located at the one of the most important junctions of nungambakkam, Valluvar Kottam High Road and Tank Bund Road and is about 8.5 acres.

work experience studio chintala 2017-2018 Studio Chintala is a multi-disciplinary design studio based in San Francisco and Bangalore. The studio is focused on designing simple and honest spaces and objects, driven purely by functional requirements. The design process involves challenging preconceived notions about buildings and typologies and starting with a “clean- slate” and developing concepts based on logic, context and the aspirations of the users. “Style and aesthetics” are purely a consequence of this creative process.
Opportunity to work with Ar.Diwakar Chintala, an experienced architect from Gensler. I was responsible for a wide range of activities, spanning from participating in major design discussions, conceptualizing and visualizing projects to preparation of construction document sets required for the project, along with vendor co-ordination. The internship sharpened my skills in detailed drawings, preparation of presentation document, giving me an insightful approach to design and architecture as a whole.
