Our icons should act as simple visual symbols — drawing attention to important messages and elements without dominating the design. They must be used in conjunction with our logo and never stand alone.
Our history It all started with six friars from Ireland. In 1847, nearly fifteen years before the start of the Civil War, Brother Giles Carroll along with five of his brothers cleared land in the forests of Loretto, Pennsylvania, to build a school that would one day become Saint Francis University. Today, the vibrant university campus sits on 600 scenic acres providing ideal setting not only for focused learning in harmony with nature.

SFU Mission.
The Saint Francis Mission As the oldest Franciscan institution of higher learning in the United States, Saint Francis University draws inspiration from our Catholic tradition and expresses the lived example of Saint Francis of Assisi in the modern world. Saint Francis University promotes an inclusive learning community and a lifelong path to virtue, truth, and compassion. Within a culture that seeks understanding through innovation and collaboration, we champion both the inherent dignity of the individual person and the common good.
Fonts.
Our typography has the power to capture attention, instill emotion and reinforce our brand message.
How to use fonts A palette of type fonts enhances the logo design. Like the color palette, its use furthers the recognition of SFU communication materials. You will see Boton and Lato or Roboto used on the web and in print. Each features a variety of styles and weights. For elegance and formality, we like Alex Brush Script. It is ornate, yet readable, but should be used sparingly. It is appropriate to use when Boton Italic does not feel formal enough and is a good choice for special events, announcements, and invitations.

Become that someone wordmarks It's more than a tagline. The phrase "Become That Someone" has deep ties to Saint Francis University's past, yet its message continues to resonate with the faculty, staff, and students to this day.
A poster that once hung above the bed of Maurice Stokes read, “People who need people are the luckiest people in the world.” This quote sums up perfectly the inspirational brotherhood of former Saint Francis basketball star Maurice Stokes and his NBA teammate Jack Twyman, and, over the course of this year, has also started to ring true for many of Saint Francis University’s current students as well.
Athletics logos & history of The Red Flash Why The Red Flash? The answer dates back to 1927 when the school boasted one of the fastest football ground attacks in the east, headed by quarterback George Kunzler, captain and right halfback Ed McLister, fullback Alphonse Abels and left halfback Ralph Bruno. Because the team wore predominantly red uniforms, the fans and The Loretto (the student newspaper) dubbed the team The Red Flashes. In addition, Saint Francis University is the home of our official mascot Frankie The Friar. Frankie can be seen at home athletic events and appears through the community as well.
The official seal of the University bears the University’s name in Latin, date of founding, coat of arms, and motto.
The University Seal The university seal is reserved for the highest official communication of the university. Use of the university seal is restricted to official university documents (such as diplomas, certificates, and commencement programs) and presidential documents (such as inauguration and event invitations). For guidance on appropriate uses of the university seal, please consult Communications & Marketing.
On the Saint Francis campus, natures splendor is on full display. Inside, students from all over the world engage discussions, labs, and learning. Being able to show to the world everything that goes on in the SFU community through high quality photography and videography is vital. Our photo library can be found at XXX. You may also submit a photo request, or to submit your own images to be considered by Communications and Marketing.
