J From the Pastor’s Desk

These days, listening to the news can be a voice that robs us of hope. Strain your ears and your heart to recognize the voice of the Good Shepherd amidst all the voices that surround us. Let us always trust that the voice of Jesus will lead us to the restful pastures. Hearing the voice certainly invites a response on our part. So it may mean that we need to again hope and trust in that ability to love, even if we have been hurt. We should never allow other voices to distract or scatter our lives. So the call is to be centered in the hope of Jesus. It is in following Jesus that we in one sense may lose our lives (at least our old ways), BUT He promises that we will find it anew. What a wonderful hope for us…so what’s keeping you?

On Wednesday, April 19th, fourteen of St. Mary’s High School students received their first sacraments. Four students were baptized and ten others received First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation. This is an exordinary number of young people coming into the church! I attribute it to our phenomenal theology department who teach the truth and beauty of our Catholic Faith. I think our school is a place were spirituality and joy are melded together in a beautiful synopsis that fosters true faith. I am so grateful to the members of our Theology Department who work with these faith-filled young people: our Chaplain, Fr. Dominik, Department Chair and Campus Minister, Mr. Anthony Cannatella, Deacon Rachid, and Sr. Monica Marie, O.P.
