Health Sciences

The health science major is designed for students who want to make a difference in local and global communities by studying and addressing issues related to health care. Throughout the health science curriculum, you’ll develop the knowledge and skills needed to tackle complex issues that affect today’s dynamic healthcare systems and to improve overall health outcomes. Start with a solid foundation in health sciences and then apply your knowledge about health care to healthcare policy, ethics, leadership, and disease prevention.

General Studies in Health Sciences

The health science major is designed for students with eclectic academic interests, invested in the overall health and well-being of the world around them. General studies in health sciences incorporates biology, psychology, and health promotion, which prepares students for the National Health Science Certificate examination. The General Studies Track provides flexible, elective options so you can mold your degree with the courses that are most in line with your career goals and interests.

Radiography Track

The Radiography track is for students who want to study imaging techniques of the human body for diagnostic purposes. Through our partnership with Englewood Hospital School of Radiography, health science students can prepare for their certification in Radiography while earning their Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences.

Experiential Learning

Through a collaboration with the Center for Career Engagement and Experiential Learning (CEEL), all health science students are required to complete an internship while in the program. This means you graduate with real-world experience on your résumés!

What can I do with a degree in Health Sciences?

This major gets you ready for a broad range of entry-level positions within healthcare and health-related organizations like:

Earn your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just five years at Saint Peter’s!

Highly motivated students, with strong academic backgrounds can begin graduate coursework at the undergraduate level, getting a jump start and matriculating directly into the graduate program in health sciences. Our graduate courses are taught by exceptional practitioners and leaders in the healthcare dedicated to instilling the professional skills, extensive knowledge, and critical values needed to be successful in the industry.

The program takes an interdisciplinary approach meaning you will look at healthcare issues through multiple points of view like behavioral, environmental, and socioeconomic perspectives. This approach prepares you for a variety of careers in the healthcare field since you will be able to understand, evaluate, and respond to new and evolving healthcare trends in a wide range of settings like hospitals, nursing homes, pharmaceutical companies, or non-profit organizations. In addition to fulfilling the core curriculum requirements, Health Science majors must complete the following courses:

HL 485 Current Issues and Trends: Interprofessional Health Sciences (capstone, service-learning)

Health Sciences students must also complete TWO additional courses in Biology, Psychology, and Health/Physical Education, as well as an internship.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Health Professions Club

The Health Professions Club offers students who are interested in health careers a chance to meet other students who share their own interests. This club holds many events and invites outside speakers to shed light on the pathway to many careers in the health sciences.

Project U.N.I.Q.U.E.

Project U.N.I.Q.U.E (Understand, Newcomings, Intelligence, Qualified, Uplift, Educate) serves to instill a better understanding of people with disabilities. The students advocate and support people with disabilities and works to provide resources and engagement opportunities for those with disabilities.

GlamourGals

GlamourGals Foundation students dedicated to providing ongoing companionship and complimentary beauty makeovers to residents in senior homes. Students visit senior homes at least once per year to participate in the event.

Health and Fitness Club

The Health and Fitness club is an organization that focuses on fitness and health! Specifically, how fitness can change your life and benefit your mind, body, and soul! Health is an important aspect in one's life. In order to truly live well, one's must be healthy. Our organization speaks upon the many aspects of health including diets, "myths", fitness (specific exercises), how to stay disciplined NOT motivated, and more!
