Students in majors from business to biology to history have conducted original research with the guidance of faculty members—and with the financial support of Saint Vincent Palumbo Grants. The grants have helped students study management styles of international businesses in the Czech Republic, dig through archives at Pearl Harbor, and share research findings at a professional conference in San Diego.

New Worlds Saint Vincent encourages you to get out of the classroom and into the world to experience different kinds of learning. Through last year’s faculty-led trips, for instance, students worked in Mother Teresa’s missions in India, investigated business and commerce in Poland and Austria, and immersed themselves in the cultural riches of China.
Ethical Issues Because so many of today’s issues are shades of gray rather than black and white when it comes to right and wrong, Saint Vincent incorporates ethical reasoning throughout the curriculum. These thoughtful explorations help you throughout your life.

Saint Vincent College’s academic program combines the breadth of a liberal arts foundation with depth in more than 50 degree programs. The core curriculum will bring more clarity to your understanding of the world and strengthen your abilities to think critically and communicate effectively—making you a better student and more valuable professional.
From the bioinformatics computer lab to the nature reserve (created by golfing legend and College supporter Arnold Palmer) to the $14 million Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children’s Media, Saint Vincent offers many resources to help you intensify your learning.
The learning atmosphere is enriched by the Catholic, Benedictine monks who comprise about 25 percent of the full-time faculty. They bring a quiet wisdom and spirituality to the classroom.
Each summer for the past 41 years, the Pittsburgh Steelers have moved into Rooney Hall on campus, ready for four weeks of summer training camp— a camp that Sports Illustrated called “the most picturesque and most fan-friendly in the NFL.” That means the Saint Vincent football team plays on the same field and trains in the same facilities as a Super Bowl-winning NFL team. Saint Vincent also fields 19 other NCAA Division III men’s and women’s teams that involve about a quarter of the student body.
LIVE FULLY— Share the Neighborhood As a first-year student, you’ll live in St. Benedict Hall with a small group of students in a “pod,” or neighborhood. This living arrangement makes it easy to get to know other students, whether you’re enjoying an outdoor movie (just one of the 500 events in the residence halls each year) or ordering a pizza to go from the dining hall.

Explore bear caves, paddle a canoe, hike a mountain, or go cross-country skiing. You can do all this and more through the College’s Highlanders Outdoor Explorers Program, which takes advantage of the many opportunities for adventure right in our backyard of the Laurel Highlands.
For the more than 1,800 students who form the Saint Vincent community, the $12.5 million student center serves as a place to catch up with friends, work out, pray, and unwind. Completed in 2004, the center includes a fitness center, lounge, book center, coffee shop, gym, performing arts center, gallery, and student chapel.
Community service is an important part of life here: about two-thirds of Saint Vincent students volunteer. You might help spruce up campus, mentor inner-city kids, or comfort AIDS patients in Brazil. Whatever you do, chances are you’ll be getting more out of it than you give.

Built on 163 years of Catholic, Benedictine tradition, Saint Vincent is welcoming to students of all faiths. For the two-thirds of students who are Catholic, Masses are offered seven days a week. Whatever their faith, all students are welcome to explore their spirituality through quiet reflection, community service, retreats sponsored by Campus Ministry—or in whatever ways they choose.

Just about every day of the academic year, you’ll find good reasons to get out and about on campus— lectures, comedians, parties, concerts (recent acts include OAR, Collective Soul, Goo Goo Dolls, FUEL, and Rusted Root), and lots of events through the more than 40 student organizations.
From an on-campus lab to a financial firm in Pittsburgh to a corporation in Shanghai, China, internships take Saint Vincent students around the world. The majority of students take part in at least one internship; some do as many as four. In addition to valuable work experience, 80 percent of the internships provide a paycheck— and half become full-time jobs. David Lauteri recently completed coursework and an internship in London, England. The political science major studied at the University of London at Birkbeck and interned with Crystal Palace Football, a professional soccer team.
LEAD CONFIDENTLY— Serve Others Many Saint Vincent graduates continue to find ways to help others, whether through their professions or their community involvement. Jeffrie Mallory, C’06, works full time as a counselor to troubled youths at Adelphoi Village. Vincent J. Quatrini, Jr., C’71, is an attorney who volunteers as chairman of the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County.
Capitalize on Connections Because of the strong bonds they formed here as students, Saint Vincent alumni tend to stay involved long after graduation day, offering current students internship and job leads, career connections, and advice.

Raise the Bar Last year, Saint Vincent seniors had a 100 percent acceptance rate into law school—compared to the national average of 59 percent. Their 70 percent acceptance rate into medical school eclipsed the national average of 47 percent. Graduates have continued on to institutions such as the Georgetown School of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
With their work ethic, sense of personal responsibility, and wideranging capabilities, Saint Vincent graduates make valuable employees. Perhaps that explains the on-campus recruiting program, which is quite large for a college of our size—drawing one recruiter for every six graduating seniors.

CHARACTER Saint Vincent College is a coeducational, liberal arts college rooted in the tradition of the Catholic faith. It was founded by Benedictine monks in 1846. MISSION The College’s mission is to provide an education that allows students to integrate their professional aims with the broader purposes of human life. LOCATION Located in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, 35 miles east of Pittsburgh, in the foothills of the Alleghenies, the College is nestled in the Laurel Highlands, which offer recreational activities such as skiing, hiking, and camping. CAMPUS The 200-acre campus is known for its beauty, friendliness, and safety. More than $40 million has been invested in campus facilities during the past five years, including a new freshman residence hall and the Robert S. Carey Student Center. STUDENTS Saint Vincent College’s 1,773 undergraduates come from 29 states and 13 foreign countries. 50% are men, 50% are women. Over 150 students are AfricanAmerican, Latino, Asian, or Native American. FACULTY The 208 faculty members make classroom teaching their top priority. CURRICULUM Saint Vincent’s liberal arts curriculum requires students in all majors to take basic courses in philosophy, English, social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, and religious studies. Pre-Veterinary CAMPUS RESOURCES Specialized laboratories include astronomy, bioinformatics, ecology, genetics, geology, human anatomy, life sciences, microbiology, optics, organic chemistry, and physiology. Students also make use of the astronomy observatory, planetarium, and radiotelescope. There are 30 technology-equipped classrooms. Wireless access points are available at a growing number of spots throughout campus. SERVICE LEARNING/ STUDY ABROAD Saint Vincent emphasizes service learning and study abroad opportunities that expand horizons and leave students more attuned to their community and world. On recent service trips, students volunteered in Newark, New Orleans, Brazil, and Calcutta. Students can also study abroad for a semester, academic year, or summer in such countries as Argentina, China, Egypt, Great Britain, France, India, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, and Turkey. LIVING ON CAMPUS More than 70% of students live on campus in six residence halls. Saint Vincent College’s residential life compares to the best in the nation. ATHLETICS Saint Vincent athletes compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III in the President’s Athletic Conference. 25% of Saint Vincent students participate in intercollegiate athletics and more than 75% in camps and intramural programs. STUDENT LIFE On campus are more than 65 student-run clubs and organizations, an active campus ministry, and a programming board that brings nationally known speakers and bands to campus. CAREER ADVISING Saint Vincent offers career advising for all students, a strong alumni network, and internship and job placement opportunities. Recent acceptance rates to professional schools: law 100%; medical 70%; dental, osteopathy, physical therapy, podiatry, pharmacy, and veterinary 95-100%; 3/2 engineering 100%. ALUMNI Saint Vincent takes pride in its more than 12,000 alumni who live in all 50 states and 28 foreign countries. Many have achieved national prominence in the fields of business, education, medicine, religion, law, government service, and others. ADMISSION Admission to Saint Vincent is competitive. The foremost consideration is a student’s academic potential. The waiting list for 2007–2008 was over 200 students. The average high school grade point average for entering freshmen in 2007 was 3.48 and most students admitted to Saint Vincent had SAT scores in the range of 950-1150. Saint Vincent College has a rolling admission policy. FINANCING 2009-2010 tuition: $25,350; room and board: $8,422; approximately 93% of students received some form of aid.
