Editorial An academic year is nearing its completion. A fruitful year for all of us at SKIPS, and also for our little Samites. The rhythm of fun filled learning experiences, the moments of innocence and sharing of happiness, the joyful field trips and never ending surprises each day…..The little ones kept us busy and gave a lot of wonderful memories to cherish for a lifetime. SKIPS has been blessed graciously with a team of highly qualified faculty -teaching and non-teaching staff whose commitment and dedication has helped us rise above the standards, and progress as a much sought after Preschool in the locality. The commendable support extended by our Management has helped us strive forward and reach for the pinnacle of success. Thanks to all our parents who have been part and parcel of our growth through their encouragement and continued patronage, whose confidence in us has allowed us to grow towards being the best. We appreciate all the little and big helps from you. Our children are seeds of sunshine and we take pride in watering their little minds with colorful dreams of tomorrow. We take pride in shaping their little childhood talents and nurturing

them in whichever direction best suited for them. This is the time to mold this wet clay to a beautifully shaped sculpture. These little angels are let free to explore their creativity, have an insight on beginning to be organized in their own ways, to socialize and get a hang of the world around them, gaining self -respect and respect for their fellow beings. SKIPS takes pride in sharing the talents of our blessed little souls. The contents of this magazine are the humble efforts of our tiny tots and stepping stones to a priceless epic piece of talent in the years to come. We request all of you to tap these innate talents, nurture, appreciate and encourage at the right time, so they develop and grow to completeness. Well there would sure be mistakes, but it is quite natural for all beginners to make some. Let us be a reason to help their talents to sail towards a beautiful tomorrow. Together let us enjoy this journey…. Let the sparkle continue….. Thank you from all of us at SKIPS.

Guest Message SKIPS has entered its sixth year, and as I retrospect

Honestly, I was rather enthralled to witness the

I feel overwhelmed by the journey so far. Since its

Annual Sports Day of the tiny tots of SAM Kids

inception in 2010, SKIPS has always been a torch

bearer for child development and education.

Football Turf of Regional Sports Centre, Cochin

At SKIPS young children learn through their senses and experiences. They touch, feel, smell, and taste things. They run and jump and climb. They play imaginary games, and they ask a million questions. In an everyday walk of life these children are beginning to understand the world around them. SKIPS offers new pastures, new opportunities and new realms to inspire and encourage little minds. The success and quality standards SKIPS has achieved could not have been brought to fruition

on 17th Jan. 2015. From what I gather, Sam Kids International Preschool is doing a very good job in moulding up the characters of tiny tots and injecting the much required confidence in them which goes a long way in shaping up their lives. I sincerely congratulate the efforts taken by the Principal, Staff and Management of SAM Kids International Preschool in making the lives of the tiny tots enjoyable in their class rooms. Wishing the Preschool ‘ALL THE BEST’.

without the consistent and dedicated support of our teachers, teaching assistants and head office team. At this juncture I recall with gratitude the support and participation from our parents. But at the end of the day the real heroes are our little sammites. In the years to come SKIPS will continue to be a forum for unique academic insights thereby

Tribute

to L at e J ust ice K ris hna I yer

Another eventful year has come to an end. Looking back I am proud to say that we have done true justice to what we have promised. We reached this far only with the patronage of the parents and well wishers and above all the sincere and hard work put in by our dedicated staff. I sincerely hope that in the coming years, ’SAM Kids’ will leap forward in quality and programmes. It is rightly said that “The beginning impacts your future”. Utmost care is taken at ‘SAM Kids’ to impart quality education. They are learning while playing. In fact,”Play is brain’s favorite way of learning”.

SKIPS team extends our tribute and homage to the veteran jurist (Late) Justice Krishna Iyer. The landmark Judgements, Reforms in the Criminal Justice System and the leading light in Environmental Struggles gave Mr. Krishna Iyer a pivotal position in the hearts of the common man. The great jurist is aptly described as the Voice of the Poor and the deprived, and has always stood for the cause he believed in. His words of wisdom…….

“Without exaggeration or pessimism I may sum up my long period in this world as the home of lost causes, forsaken beliefs, unpopular names and impossible loyalties. What redeems my mind and mood is the satisfaction that I have dedicated my capacities not for making money but for wiping the tears of others-this being my tryst with destiny.”

Our Salute to the great Jurist.

In house training is given to our teachers and support staff to keep them updated and refreshed. Regular brainstorming sessions is done at the management level to improve the standards. The participation of the parents also helps in improving the quality. Hence my humble request to parents –Please do not miss any event which requires your presence in the school. LET US, TOGETHER, MAKE A GOOD BEGINNING, FOR YOUR KIDS,TO MAKE A GOOD IMPACT ON THEIR FUTURE. At ‘SAM Kids, “We treat every kid to be a genius at something-our job is find it and nurture it”. Let me wish the best of everything to our dear little geniuses who are moving out this year. Sincerely,

Fairyland of Virtual Reality “Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of man.” Rabindranath Tagore The most sensitive challenge of modern age preschools is not ‘educating’ the preschoolers in the peripheral sense anymore; on the other hand we can learn from them more than what we educate them. The challenge is to inculcate the true values of the humanity in them, in the poised manner, and get them out of the fetters of the ‘three smart screens of virtual reality’ viz., smart phone, laptop/tablet and television. During old time the fairyland and the allied stories inspired the kids with their dreams entwining around that imaginary, but virtually existed, world in their little minds. A little room was left to teachers and parents to incorporate their creativity and to add on to the fairyland adventures. Also they needn’t to be equipped for the ‘intelligent’ clarifications that would have originated from those tales. As a natural process of change and evolution the present age kids are exposed to a life where the erstwhile virtual things have become ‘real’. They get an opportunity to ‘experience’ all those imaginaries in their life. Especially through the advancement of technology, digital and electronic media that influence their life largely through games, videos, movies, internet connectivity, websites, applications et al and incarnate in the form of those smart screens in front of them.

That is where we as a preschool, have got an important role to mould them through a very sensitive nurturing pattern in weeding out the complexities entailed in the modern era of living. Our academic programs, events & activities are designed to treat each child as unique, and to inculcate the values that are suitable to their age and psychological make. Our training programs and methodologies for teachers and child assistants are attuned on this basic pattern along with the academic excellence. We preach and practice all the policies in coordination with this objective. We are thankful for the parent fraternity for their extended patronage and the entire family of SAM Kids for their dexterous efforts towards this goal in the years passed. We look forward to all of you to scale higher accomplishments for our kids in the coming years also. We feel so sacred to travel along with these tiny but profoundly powerful minds, at SAM Kids International Preschool, where they begin the journey of their life. What we do, while we witness the stupendous transformation that our kids gain through the journey of life, is that we ‘stay with’ them...

Sincerely,

From the Desk of Academics “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” Plutarch Every year begins with new hopes and aspirations, the targets to be met and the drive to raise the level of success and accomplishments. At SKIPS, we had a different story. Instead of chasing after new hopes and aspirations, our Team focused on one MantraIMPROVE the QUALITY which led us to SUCCESS. Together we set out to accomplish this mission – Quality in ALL Our Services. We identified the areas which required a make-over, a total revamp or a face lift. Academic Year 2014-15 has been a busy year for all of us. On the academic front, we continued our Teacher Support through periodical workshops and soft skill training to improve the quality of the teaching and implement curricular activities in the most effective way. Our new Achievement Card enabled our teachers to be learner specific and identify all the major developmental milestones of the learners. All our Samites had an equally exhilarating year as they were captivated with fun filled experience both in curricular and co-curricular and extra- curricular activities. The grandparent’s day, the healthy bites, the field trips, the events and celebrations, moral rearmament sessions, puppet shows etc were all planned and executed across all the centres with uniformity and diligence. This is the right opportunity to Salute our team of CDO’s and the Academic Executives for their hard work and commitment

which adds on to our success story. Another feather on our cap is the TIPS Meet with Parent Workshops conducted across all our centres. With this we could reach out more closer to our dear parents who entrusted their kids into our hands with lot of confidence in us. The parent workshops enabled us to understand the concerns of the parents and address them which in turn helped us in improving our service to our beloved patrons. Our Annual Sports day gave an opportunity for all the Samites to get the feel of a modern sports field though the sun shined too bright making it a sweaty day for all of us. All together a very welcoming year for all of us and as mentioned in the quote may God Almighty give us the strength to kindle the young minds so that they grow up with the fire in them to enlighten the whole world and preserve it from the darkness of evil thoughts and selfishness. Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached ….dear Samite..

Sincerely,

Ms. Raci ka Ra man, Principal

I am a proud Samite. I love to go to my school. I have learnt to narrate stories. Draw, paint, do craft, and learn about legends, festivals and many more activities. I have also given welcome speeches at various functions held at my school. I love the tasty snacks given at my school. Potato rice & salad and Pasta are my favorites. We dance and play in water during the swimming pool sessions. I love all my friends, teachers & Staff Anan y a R Nai r UKG, Aluva

I love my school and I enjoy the time with my friends and teachers. Every day we learn language, math and art in the class. I started learning Hindi this year. Every month teacher tells us about famous people and their life. This year we got a new swimming pool and I liked to play in the pool. I was happy to see my grandparents in the school on grandparent’s day. Once we went to the Fire station and saw fire trucks. Firemen showed us what to do when we are in trouble. Dressing up as Mahabali for Onam was a great fun. All this makes me very happy in school A r y an .A.B UKG, Kakkanad

When I started my NUR class in SAM Kids I was very small. Now I have grown up bigger and I have learned to read, write, Sing, Dance, and to try my best with all my might. I played outside on sunny days and inside when it rained. My teachers were always friendly. SAM Kids helps me to build the self esteem and self confidence. I enjoyed each moment I spent in SAM Kids. Now I am leaving this year with sweet memories to new school. J eff Tom UKG, Maradu

At SAM Kids every child is a little scientist actively trying to make sense of the world around rather than soaking information passively. As a Doctor by profession I have seen the physical, emotional and cognitive development in her on a daily basis. remember Fiza’s first day at SAM Kids, “tinyI still tears that fell down her cheeks when I left her. Instead of that shy little girl, I see a confident one with wonderful vocabulary when I look at her today.

I think back over the past two years our daughter has attended SAM Kids, there are no words to express how appreciative we are for the care, attention, love and learning she has received there. We feel it to be the safest place to leave her while we are at work.

The individual care teachers and aunties give them healthy snacks, clean environment makes same best in the class. The enthusiasm your little one shows to go to school every morning is the best litmus test possible for a Preschool. I am sure she has enjoyed every movement spent at Sam Kids.

that he did not want to be there. Today he doesn’t want to walk out of the place. After 3 years we are really proud that we had made a very prudent decision by sending him there .He has become a gem of a Sammite today.

A big “Thank you” from the bottom of our “hearts As every parent, we were apprehensive about sending Amith to school for the first time. More so because he was being treated like a prince charming at home as our family was blessed with a baby boy after so many years. We weren’t even sure whether there was any school capable to take care of him the way we wanted things to be. That is when we heard about “SAM KIDS” at Maradu. The first day is still fresh in our memory when we dragged him to school with sobbing hearts and he overdid his part by rolling all over the floor and crying

The caring and affectionate teachers, the individual attention given to each child, the innovative teaching aids, the thrust given to extra curriculum have all contributed to the bubbling Amith we see today. The monthly change in the menu, the versatile and hygienic food provided really kicked up his appetite. He no longer sulks with food. The month celebrations, the dress and colour codes, exposure to various other information in the society like postal department , police station, fire station and various other field trips have all contributed to his small world of information. The importance given to environment, hygiene, values have laid the foundations of a good human being in him which we are sure will make him a very responsible citizen of tomorrow. The information about various festivals of the country, the cultures, food habits have all made him look beyond the realms of his geographical surroundings. The small Piggy

Bank given to him in the initial days taught him the value of saving for the rainy days. When the money collected was given to orphanages and he himself was a member of the team which went out to visit the orphanages he learnt his first lesson of compassion and he knew the joy of giving. The best part is that while he was learning, SAM KIDS could preserve that innocence and childhood in him which endears him to everyone. The monthly courtesy calls and the quarterly TIPS meet though at times felt tiresome were attempts to improvise the quality of what our child got. The regular eye and dental check ups and his desire to come out healthy in these check ups saved us a lot of energy in reminding him to brush his teeth or to watch TV and computer games from a safe distance. The joint Sports and Arts event for all centres has prepared him to face challenges and instilled a spirit of sportsmanship in him. The Grandparents Day celebrated every year, wherein grandparents are invariably invited, has taught him to love and respect the elders. For the past three years we had only 2

occasions to complain, one was regarding the delay of the school van and another was the space constrain at the school. To our relief both the grievances were addressed to our utmost satisfaction within no time. Yes, as parents, today with high confidence we recommend every prince and princess to SAM KIDS. Here they are in the right hands. We had made the right decision 3 years ago. We with all our might would not have been able to give him such a vast exposure, treasure of knowledge, fun and love. At the same time it is very painful not only for Amith but all of us at home to bid farewell to an institution which we held close to our heart. We forever would be grateful to each and every person here who has supported the growth of our child, who has contributed to the foundation of a good citizen. We are going to miss you all. We are thankful to all the teachers, aunties, driver uncles and guard uncle. We especially owe a big thanks to Sandhya Mam, Amith’s teacherin Nursery and LKG who nurtured his talents and has turned him into a wonderful boy. How we wish we would never have to part.

This is such a great feeling for us as parents because we know she is having fun and enjoying her preschool experience. We believe that our child is learning the value of rich Indian culture that will remain as she matures and continues .the voluntary donation was an awesome thought which helps the little one to create the kindness, generosity and sympathy towards others. I am a very protective Mom who was very anxious and nervous about sending my child to Pre School for the first time. However SAM Kids won me over very quickly and allayed all my fears! “SAM Kids Mamangalam” has been second home for my daughter. They give more care like how parents give their children. Hi I am Preethi Anil. It’s been only a few months since I have joined Sam kids and yet I feel I have been here since a very long time. My co-workers and the whole teaching group have encouraged me constantly in order to get involved with the Sam kids family. The teaching group is filled with passionate and dedicated individuals with no completion but with utmost commitment. Being the teacher of UKG is such an amazing and exciting experience. There is never a dull moment. The fun, laughter, loves and happiness among the children is not a predictable one. Sam kids possess a marvelous and healthy environment where both the students and the teachers get the opportunity to learn from each other. Teaching is challenging but the challenge keeps me going. My students relentlessly challenge what I thought I knew about kids and teaching. My colleagues challenge me to expand my prospective and step out of my classroom bubble. The families I work with challenge me to have high expectations and broaden my definition of family. My supervisors constantly challenge me to reflect on my own teaching, take the next steps, continuously improve and push myself out of my comfort zone. This is our Picker Upper of the day

But these years just fly by!

And who better than ‘YOU’,

I have a good feeling.

Followed by rhythm of the day.

Each and every moment,

Can sow a seed of inquiry,

The freshness of a good day,

Flashes here and there,

Into the hearts of many!

Just reaches on my way,

Circle Time, Theme Time ,Math Time, Language Time

But few giggles of joy,

Be proud of what’s there ,

Now I have to get up,

Are worth a million share!

And accept the beauty,

Brush, bathe and dress up.

Children are a reflection,

With you the dream begins,

And start to move to my school

Of curiosity, and ignorance,

Lest each not forget the child within!

Where I am cool

They know no direction,

For you need to know,

Teachers are there, Aunties are there

As they look up with innocence!

What you have is what you got,

Friends are there.

Taking your hand,

From someone who made you,

They try to shape a vision,

Dare to reach the stars!

Starting with assembly, singing rhymes happily,

I have been fortunate to serve in my current position as Sr. Academic Executive during this academic year. It was a truly meaningful time that I have had during these times.

Th e d i rec tion in w hic h ed uc ation st a rt s a man w il l d etermine his f ut u re in life. - Plato

where I was given the opportunity to directly take part in the academic duties. I realized the amount of effort a teacher puts into their work is truly praise-worthy.

I had worked as a teacher in the high school department for 10 years. Three years ago, I got the opportunity to be part of SAM Kids. It was a complete change from my previous work atmosphere. I entered the world of love, innocence, fun and playfulness. I enjoyed the expression of security when the parents dropped their kids at the school every morning and the happiness when they picked them up in the evening. The unity within the faculty and the non-faculty members and the sincerity in their duty never cease to amaze me. My first two years were spent in the administrative area of the institution and the third, the most recent one, was

SAM Kids was an educative experience for me as well. Taking them to field trips, celebrations, answering their questions (some of which honestly left me making a lot of references!!) was fun and enlightening. I consider myself lucky to be part of this amazing venture which demands a lot of work and responsibility. I am happy to see the results in the Samites I hope to be part of this for the many years to come. Every year new kids arrive and old ones leave. It’s indeed a lot of fun.

My Own teaching experience started five years back. There were times I felt teaching was nerve wracking. However, now, I can honestly say that the past years that I spent here proved to be the most enjoyable and the most rewarding in my career. Now, I know this is what I wanted to do. I think leading students and staff are closely linked. Each teacher can recall numerous highs and lows in their teaching career. Personally, I have gone through so many such moments while teaching. Here, in SAM Kids, I have been blessed to have worked with an amazing group of people. They all challenged me to be better. The experience that I have had in my current position this year is probably the best learning experience that I have ever had. It’s been incredibly rewarding and it has helped me in increasing my confidence a lot.

Once I shifted to Kochi, my quest for a Montessori School started. Having a Montessori background, my interest and search was limited to it only. During this period of quest, is when I came across SAM Kids. I heard about the XSEED Curriculum which was followed and was interested to know more about the curriculum. GOOGLE gave me a wide perspective of the 5 A’s, which is the main principle behind XSEED. Keeping the curriculum in mind, I went ahead applying in SAM Kids. I got a better clarity of XSEED from our Principal Mrs. Racika Raman, during the interview session. The idea of imparting knowledge to our children, through action and application is what impressed me the most. The efforts by teachers at SAM Kids to achieve the 5 A’s is remarkable. As a Montessorian, I believe that the seeds of culture sown in the minds of children 2.5 to 6 remain and grow. For me, Education is an aid to a child to live his life independently and to grow socially and emotionally.

The best thing about SAM Kids is the safe atmosphere and caring staff. Without the constant encouragement and support I received from here, I wouldn't have reached where I am now. Lastly, I take this opportunity to thank the management of Sam kids and my colleagues to have given me their support and encouragement.

At SAM Kids with the help of XSEED curriculum and love and care of our CDO’s and CDA’s, I saw these principles being met. It’s been 4 months in to the SKIPS family and I have received all the warmth from my peers and most of all my seniors. As Racika mam says.... Children should feel SKIPS as their second home. My seniors, made me feel that this was my second home, where I can share my opinions and views without fear and hesitation. Thank you all for the same.

Expreience

From Our

as an Admin

Non-Teaching Staff

Hi. I am Rakhi Anoop. I joined Sam kids on June 18 2014. When I joined SAM Kids as an Admin, a new career was open for me. One thing which I need to mention is team work and support which I got from the SKIPS team, which was a back born to my career. My first challenge in SAK Kids was conducting an Independence Day

program as I was entirely new to this field. My Maradu team gave me such a support that it increased my confidence level and made the event successful. SAM Kids gave me a platform where I could grow. The duties and responsibilities entrusted to me helped me improve my knowledge level and skills. I am proud to be a part of SKIPS.

My Life with SAM Kids – AWESOME!! My experience with SAM Kids has been a seasoned ride with extreme learning. This is a place full of remarkable & expendable professionals who guide you to the right direction. SAM Kids has given me a lot of things a very different and nice work experience. They have loved me like a family member and I am proud to be a

part of the SKIPS Family. A roller coaster ride with up’s and downs and all high up and running again with the support which I received from my team and the management. They have given me the opportunity to meet people our parents and our little samites. In short, it is a detailed journey in the heavenly sledge of knowledge and learning which I would cherish throughout my life.

Samite Alumini Now that we are slowly settling here in the UK, we are indeed very happy that we are reaping all the positives of this decision we took about SAM Kids.

As When SAM Kids started at Kakkanad, We had our elder child (Diya Dipesh) attend preschool at SAM Kakkanad. I should say, that really set the tone for the rest of her schooling and she is coming along pretty well at the moment. We wanted to make sure our younger child got the same exposure too while we were deciding a pre-school for Neha Dipesh. So we did not have to think twice to decide in favor of SAM Kids. Little Neha had an exceedingly good year and half at SAM Kakkanad, I should say.

Neha is now attending her Key Stage 2 at a school here in the UK. We were skeptical initially off on how she would react about her new school. Thanks to SAM, she was truly positive from day one. New environment, new friends, new teachers, new language (not really new, but the accent made it feel so), Neha was ready to take in all that and more. The courage, I am sure had to do a lot about your coaching. Above all was the confidence she showed from day one. Even under changed circumstances, she was ready and raring to go from day one. Looking back, we realize, a lot of this have to attributed to what she learnt at SAM and we are indeed indebted to all you at SAM about it. A big Thank You from all of us.
