With the BMW i Vision Circular, the BMW Group is looking ahead to a compact BMW for the year 2040 that is focused squarely on sustainability and luxury. The four-seater is fully electrically powered and offers a generous amount of interior space within its around four-metre-long footprint. It has furthermore been designed according to circular economy principles across the board and therefore symbolises the BMW Group’s ambitious plan to become the world’s

most sustainable manufacturer in the individual premium mobility space. The Vision Vehicle is one of five different concept vehicles with which the BMW Group is presenting how it envisages individual urban mobility at the IAA Mobility 2021 event. Under a single umbrella spanning electric mobility, digitalisation and sustainability, the five pioneering concepts create a versatile mobility

In order to minimise the amount of waste and offcuts, all components and materials will be manufactured to fit exactly using processes such as 3D printing. Any surplus material will be systematically fed back into the materials cycle. BMW i From Front Cover mix on two and four wheels fuelled by sustainable thinking, which comprehensively addresses an extremely wide range of mobility needs in the face of fast-changing requirements and growing challenges. Circular economy and secondary materials cut CO2 emissions. The BMW Group’s overriding aim as it strives to achieve climate neutrality is to reduce CO2 emissions throughout a vehicle’s entire life cycle. Besides electrifying the product portfolio and switching to renewable energy for manufacturing, the company is focusing particularly on circular economy principles and the use of secondary materials. These materials, such as secondary aluminium and secondary steel, can be obtained by recycling waste material and then reused. The process for supplying secondary materials is far less harmful to the environment and carbon intensive compared to the extraction and manufacture of primary material. This can bring about a major improvement in a vehicle’s carbon footprint, especially on the supply chain side. At present, vehicles from the BMW Group are manufactured using near4

The ‘secondary first’ approach is intended to gradually increase this figure to 50 per cent. “The BMW i Vision Circular illustrates our all-encompassing, meticulous way of thinking when it comes to sustainable mobility. It symbolises our ambition to be a pioneering force in the development of a circular economy,” explains Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “We lead the way for resource efficiency in production and we are seeking to extend December 2021

this status to all stages of the vehicle life cycle. This is a question of economic stainability too, as the current trend in commodity prices clearly shows the financial consequences in store for any industry that is reliant on finite resources.” He adds, “We will take the next big step towards achieving this with the ‘Neue Klasse’ models. We appreciate there are many BMW fans longing for a first foretaste of the ‘Neue Klasse’, but the BMW i Vision Circular isn’t it. I can promise, however, that, on a sustainability level, the ‘Neue Klasse’ is being www.IneedOEMparts.com

Refined surfaces rather than paintwork. The BMW i Vision Circular deliberately avoids the use of paint for the exterior, and instead features a main body made from secondary aluminium with a light-gold anodised finish. developed with the same mindset applied for the BMW i Vision Circular.” The overriding design aim for the BMW i Vision Circular was to create a vehicle that is optimised for closed materials cycles and achieves 100% use of recycled materials / 100% recyclability. This involves making particular use of materials that have already completed a product life cycle – or secondary materials as they are known – alongside certified biobased raw materials. The same applies to the energy stor- age device: the allsolid-state battery in the BMW i Vision Circular is 100 per cent recyclable and manufactured almost entirely using materials sourced from the re- cycling loop. It will achieve much higher energy density with significantly reduced use of the most valuable resources. www.IneedOEMparts.com

Circular design – a new approach. “We gave thorough consideration to circularity from the outset during the design process for the BMW i Vision Circular. As a result, this Vision Vehicle is packed with innovative ideas for combining su tainability with a new, inspirational aesthetic – we call this approach ‘circular design’,” explains Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. Circular design embraces the four principles of RE:THINK, RE:DUCE, RE:USE and RE:CYCLE. RE:THINK. Circular product design begins by thinking about things differently. For the BMW i Vision Circular this meant scrutinising processes and manufacturing technologies and thinking differently. The function December 2021

performed by each component part up to now was examined, after which the part was removed without replacement or cleverly repackaged where appropriate and then designed to enable closed materials cycles. RE:DUCE. “I do more with less” has long been an integral part of the BMW i philosophy. The BMW i Vision Circular demonstrates this through the rigorously applied reduction in the number of component parts, material groups and surface finishes, dispensing completely with exterior paintwork, leather and chrome, for instance. Materials from biobased raw materials also help to minimise environmental impact and contribute to a smaller carbon

Toyota Alabama’s Future is Electrified, Turbocharged Together with state and community leaders, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama (TMMAL) held an event to celebrate the first of Toyota’s latest engine products for the all-new 2022 Tundra to come off the production line. These new engines, a hybrid electric powered twin-turbo V6 engine and the gas-powered twinturbo V6 engine, usher in the next era of powertrains being assembled in Huntsville. Toyota’s new twin-turbo V6 engine line was part of a $288 million investment that also added 450 new jobs. That represented the largest hiring need in Toyota Alabama’s history, boosting the plant’s total employment to 1,800. Completion of this project – originally announced in February 2019 – marked the fifth expansion at Toyota Alabama. Toyota Alabama’s total cumulative investment is $1.2 billion and now boasts an annual engine capacity

of 900,000. Toyota Alabama is the sole producer of both engine models for the 2022 Tundra in North America, creating long–term employment stability for the plant’s 1,800 workers. “Our team members in Alabama recognize the confidence and trust Toyota places in us since we are the only plant selected to build engines for the all-new Tundra,” shared Jason Puckett, president of Toyota Alabama. “Launching the new twin-turbo V6 line and celebrating our 20th anniversary remind us here just how lucky we are to have such incredible team members who have made Toyota Alabama known as ‘the engine capital of the world.’” At 142 yards, both of the twinturbo V6 engine options for the 2022 Tundra are being built on the longest Toyota engine line in North America. The V6 Turbo line will produce a new engine every 58 seconds, with a capac-

ity to build 18,000 engines each month. These additional engines push the total capacity for Toyota Alabama engine production to up to 900,000 engines per year. The all-new 2022 Tundra goes on sale later this year. The standard i-FORCE 3.5L twin-turbo produces up to 389 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. The i-FORCE MAX powertrain boasts 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful engine in the Toyota line-up. “For the last 20 years, our state and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama have shared a mutually beneficial relationship that has created remarkable outcomes for Alabamians,” Governor Kay Ivey said. “Toyota’s $288 million investment to produce the allnew twin-turbo V6 engine continues to demonstrate that Alabama is not only open for business, but is the best place to do business.”n

NADA Board of Directors Elects North Carolina Dealer Mike Alford as 2022 Chairman The 65-member board of directors of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) today elected Mike Alford as its 2022 chairman. “It is an honor and privilege to be elected to serve as NADA board chairman for 2022,” said Alford, who represents North Carolina’s new-car dealers on the NADA board and is president of Marine Chevrolet Cadillac in Jacksonville, N.C. “Since 1917 NADA has been an ardent advocate for franchised new-car dealers. The opportunity to chair this dynamic group of automotive leaders is both exciting and humbling. We have an engaged board and talented team that stands ready to advance the interest of our more than 16,000 franchised dealers. I

appreciate the trust and confidence of the board as we tirelessly pursue our work with all stakeholders on behalf of the dealer body.” Alford, 57, who currently serves as NADA vice chairman, will succeed Paul Walser, partner of Walser Automotive Group in Edina, Minn., as chairman. Geoffrey Pohanka, 64, who represents new-car dealers in Metro Washington, D.C. and currently serves as chairman of NADA’s Industry Affairs Committee, was elected NADA vice chairman for 2022. “I grew up in the car business. NADA helped our company tremendously, and we’ve been giving back ever since. NADA has an amazing board and an amazing staff. And if we can help create a good environment for the industry, we can help create a vibrant economy and stronger communities. That’s what I want to do, and I promise to give it my utmost 110%.” Tom Castriota, owner of Castriota Chevrolet, Inc. in Hudson, Fla., was elected as secretary. BMW i From Page 5 footprint. As far as the digitalisation features are concerned, smart control panels reduce both complexity and the use of materials. In addition to this, digital surface treatments enable a reduction in the number of hardware variants at the same time as opening up whole new possibilities for design. RE:USE. Ideally, a sustainable product will have a long lifespan, with a rich and enjoyable product experience making people a lot more enthusiastic about using the product – and using it for longer. One way of ensuring this happens is by incorporating digitality to create new experiences. The display options via digital display surfaces in the exterior and interior of a car and the availability of “option as a service” allow users to constantly bring something new to the vehicle. Constant up- dates over the air and cloud computing keep the product technically up to date for longer. And the vehicle’s life cycle can also be extended by refurbishing and re- design. Easily detachable connections make it far simpler for users to replace indi- vidual materials and component parts, allowing

them to keep restyling the vehicle. RE:CYCLE. When it comes to the materials used, the focus with the BMW i Vision Circular is on recycled materials (“secondary first” approach) which are intended to be reused again at the end of the product life cycle. Having a small number of dif- ferent mono-material groups with connections that can easily be undone is crucial for good recycling. For this reason, the BMW i Vision Circular avoids bonded connections or composite materials and uses intelligent types of connection, such as cords, press studs and quick-release fasteners, instead. It showcases a purpose- developed, aesthetically appealing quick-release fastener for the wheels, seats and instrument panel that creates a ‘joyful fusion’. The laser-etched graphic in the cen- tre of the quick-release fastener is made up of the letters of the word “circular” ar- ranged in the form of a circle. A special socket wrench separates the component parts joined by the fastener with a single rotation. The ‘joyful fusion’ fastener cre- ates a theftproof and stable connection and, at the same time, allows many component parts of the vehicle to be

dismantled with just a single tool. “BMW has always known how to resolve apparent contradictions in its products,” explains Domagoj Dukec, Head of BMW Design. “With the BMW i Vision Circular, we have set ourselves the challenge of designing a 100% circular vehicle, while at the same time meeting – and in some respects exceeding – our customers’ self- evident expectations when it comes to lifestyle and luxury.” Re-interpreting classical icons – the front end. The puristic front end clearly conveys the aesthetic power of circular design. In keeping with the principles of “RE:THINK” and “RE:USE”, the number of parts here has been reduced to the max. Instead of having a chrome surround with bars, the kidney grille has been newly interpreted as a digital surface. The kidney surfaces extend across the entire width of the front end, merging the headlights and grille into an unmistakable “double-icon” that will continue to be a clear BMW identifier. At the same time, the kidney surfaces are turned into a graphic interface. In the future, digital design could make geometric variations in lights and bumpers redundant, help-

ing to reduce the quantity of materials and tools required. A discreet line graphic on the kidney surfaces constitutes the sole decorative element in the front end. Using a process of intelligent surface refinement, it brings a new and artistic twist to the familiar parallel kidney bar look. This line graphic forms a recurring theme that is also found in the windows, the rear end, the roof, wheels and floor coverings. The BMW i Vision Circular has no other additive trim elements or badging of the sort currently used to signify quality. The brand logo on the front end is engraved and the vehicle badge is laser-etched to avoid using extra add-on parts. The surfaces below the windscreen are made from secondary aluminium. An additional sensor cluster between the two kidney elements groups together technological features, enabling simple disassembly within a single removable element. The bumper area further down is manufactured from recycled plastic with a sophisticated marbled surface. A new silhouette for BMW – the side view. The circular design approach exudes puristic clarity when viewing the car in profile too. The BMW i Vision Circular has a clear mono-volume design made up of just a small number of parts, with the array of different materials used reduced to a mini- mum. The design language here is clear and accessible. The proportions, mean- while, take BMW in a new direction. The vehicle extends in an unbroken volume from the front to rear axle, offering a generous breadth of interior usability within a small footprint. Even at a standstill, the rising roofline and a cowl panel pushed well forward give the compact silhouette the appearance of surging dynamically down the road. The wheels form almost the outer limits of the vehicle, combining with the prominently flared wheel arches to produce a hunkered-down, sporty stance. Together with its electrified architecture, the Vision Vehicle offers a luxury-class interior on a small car footprint. Refined surfaces rather than paint work. The BMW i Vision Circular deliberately avoids the use of paint for the exterior, and instead features a main body made from secondary aluminium with a light-gold anodised finish. The calmer feel of this Anodized Mystic Bronze shade contrasts with the more “animated” and richly colored surface at the rear made from heat-treated steel. The heat treatment process creates the colour Temper Blue Steel, an alluring interplay of bluish purple surfaces whose cloud-like aspect would lend a highly individual touch to any vehicle. The refinement processes employed for the individual surfaces give them significant visual impact, while preserving the raw ma- teriality of the two metals for optimal reusability. This shows how it will be possible to refine surfaces using innovative processes in future without the need for paint finishes.n

New all-turbocharged engine lineup delivers improved efficiency and higher horsepower; including a new 2.5-liter that produces 290 horsepower and best-in-class available torque.

"Digital piano key" taillights — which also adorn the recently unveiled, stunning QX60 Monograph design study — have visual depth thanks to an intricate inner housing that incorporates 45 individual LEDs in each taillight. The piano key taillights are distinctive from every angle and frame a graceful light signature that's unique and unforgettable in the dark. QX55 From Page 8 in the automaker's lineup. With the growing appeal of design-focused SUVs like the QX55, INFINITI is in the driver's seat with new luxury-car buyers. The QX55's story begins with design. The all-new QX55 SUV connects the brand to its heritage with a modern interpretation of the stunning silhouette created by the INFINITI FX, first on sale in 2003. The QX55 is the latest in a line of INFINITI vehicles that have pushed the envelope of design among Japanese luxury automakers. Its roofline recalls a familiar shape, but its origamiinspired mesh grille design looks ahead to the future. 22 Southern Automotive Journal

Leatherette interior upholstery is standard in the QX55 LUXE, and all grades are equipped with heated, ergonomically designed, "zero gravity" front seats that help reduce physical fatigue by minimizing pressure on the back and hips of occupants. Assembled with precise stitching, the leatherette, leather, or premium semi-aniline leather appointments give a tailored appearance to the interior with a crafted feel and add to the luxurious cabin, regardless of grade. The QX55 also minimizes outside distraction with laminated front side glass and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), while Active Sound Enhancement (ASE) provides an engaging note for the driver. With December 2021

ANC, three microphones inside the cabin detect unwanted frequencies and neutralize those with phaseshifting noises transmitted through speakers within the car. Combined with a low vibration body and advanced construction techniques, the QX55 never speaks out of turn. Underneath the QX55's provocative shape, its cabin-forward layout maximizes interior room for the driver and up to four passengers. The QX55 carries up to 26.9 cubic feet of cargo behind the second row, which is more than similarly styled coupe offerings from rivals such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The QX55 also boasts up to 38.7 inches of rearseat legroom — tops among similar competitors — and its sliding secwww.IneedOEMparts.com

ond-row seat that travels nearly six inches fore and aft maximizes cargo or passenger space, depending on need. The QX55 is equipped with dual, high-resolution touch screens for infotainment and vehicle controls, and the QX55 is the first INFINITI vehicle to offer the convenience of wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity to stay informed and entertained while on the road. Android Auto users aren't left out either; the infotainment system can connect directly to compatible smartphones to deliver music and information through an easily accessible USB port. The QX55 cabin features four USB ports (one Type-C and three Type-A ports) to provide convenient charging options. The INFINITI's advanced assistance systems can support and inform when needed. The QX55 offers INFINITI's advanced ProPILOT Assist driver-assistance system to help steer, brake, center the vehicle in its lane, and accelerate in certain conditions to help reduce driver fatigue and enhance comfort. ProPILOT Assist combines Intelligent Cruise Control with Full-Speed Range and Hold with Steering Assist

to deliver a more comfortable ride in stop-and-go traffic or long-distance highway drives. Unlike similar systems from competitors, no subscription fee is required to keep the system active. The groundbreaking and world's first mass-production variable-compression 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the QX55 and produces a competitive 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque thanks to its innovative design. The VC-Turbo engine consistently varies its compression ratio between 14:1 and 8:1 to deliver high-efficiency driving or confident power low in the rev range, depending on need. The key is a patented multi-link system that can imperceptibly raise or lower the pistons' stroke during operation to suit nearly any driving situation. A turbocharger produces better fuel economy and better response compared to a naturally aspirated engine. Paired to the VC-Turbo engine is a seamless Continuously Variable Transmission that features "shiftby-wire" technology, eschewing the requirement for a mechanical transmission linkage and ensuring driver inputs are transferred almost

instantaneously when shifting in manual mode. In conjunction with paddle shifters and INFINITI's Drive Mode Selector, the driver is empowered with multiple drive modes to change the driveline's character, including shift points, steering force, and engine mapping. Standard, ECO, Sport, and Personal modes offer control and personalization depending on circumstances. The engine and transmission shift power to all four wheels via INFINITI's Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive system, standard on all QX55 models. At takeoff, the system doles power to the front and rear axles in a 50:50 split for maximum performance. If no slip is detected, the system can send up to 100% of available power to the front wheels only for maximum efficiency. The QX55 filters out road imperfections with a four-wheel independent suspension that uses MacPherson struts up front and a rear multi-link setup. INFINITI's Body Motion Control offers precise handling during high-speed cornering to instill confidence in the driver but quells uneven road surfaces during long journeys to comfort passengers.n

Small Businesses Trying to Hire Face Growing Difficulty Finding Workers Small businesses that are actively hiring are finding it more difficult now than in June to find workers to fill open positions, according to a poll on the state of the workforce taken September 30 – October 7, 2021, and released today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and MetLife. The poll reveals small business owners’ current attitudes toward hiring, vaccine requirements, and the national economic outlook. Nearly half (49%) of small businesses that are actively hiring say it is hard to find candidates with the skills they need, a significant jump from only 34% saying so in June. Small businesses that are actively hiring are also finding it harder to fill open positions (44% vs. 34% in June) and compete for talent with larger businesses in their area (42% vs. 26% in June). The small business data comes

just weeks after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported there were 10.4 million job openings across the country in August, following a record high 10.9 million in July. Although more small businesses say that they are likely to hire new employees this year (58% vs. 48% in June), there was little change in the percentage of small businesses that have actually initiated the hiring process (36% vs. 33% in June). “Small businesses are ready to hire, ready to welcome back customers, and support vaccinations to keep customers and employees safe,” said Tom Sullivan, vice president of small business policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “However, the worker shortage crisis threatens the economic recovery of Main Streets across the country, and many small business owners have simply given up on finding new

staff. Congress needs to focus on making it easier for small businesses to hire the people they need to grow, compete, and thrive.” Most small businesses support vaccine requirements A majority (64%) of small business owners support businesses in their area requiring vaccines for their employees—with both the Biden administration’s proposed mandate and business-initiated mandates receiving equal support. Similarly, 60% support businesses in their area requiring proof of vaccination from their customers. The support aligns with a recent Gallup poll showing 58% of Americans favor the administration’s vaccine mandates for companies with 100 or more employees, or weekly testing. More small business owners are implementing vaccine requirements

Three in five (61%) are likely to or already require staff to be vaccinated. Although most small business owners (56%) see a return to a normal small business climate as distant (6 months – 1 year away), businesses with less than half of employees vaccinated are more likely to say the climate will never return to normal (26% vs. 8% in companies with more than half of employees vaccinated). Meanwhile, 16% of small businesses with at least half of their workforce vaccinated expect a return to normal within three months, compared to only 6% of small businesses with low staff vaccination rates. “While it is encouraging to see more optimism around hiring plans in the latest poll, small businesses are still facing a challenging, ever-changing environment, espe-

cially when it comes to recruiting workers,” said Cynthia Smith, senior vice president, Regional Business at MetLife. “In a competitive labor market, it is more important than ever for small businesses to have the tools and resources needed to

The Subaru WRX STI Features an Exclusive 310-Horsepower Engine and Advanced Driver Controlled Center Differential All-Wheel Drive Subaru introduced the newgeneration WRX STI for 2015 featuring a new wide-body sedan design with a significantly stiffer chassis resulting in an expanded performance envelope. Offered in standard and Limited trim lines, the 2021 WRX STI is immediately recognized by its aggressive looking aerodynamic form, highlighted by the STI trademark large trunk wing. Drivers wanting a less conspicuous look can opt for a low-profile trunk spoiler that was added as a no-cost option. A all-new 2022 WRX has been announced with the most advanced features, design, and performance in its nearly 20-year history. The WRX STI features an exclusive 310-horsepower engine and advanced Driver Controlled Center Differential all-wheel drive. The special hood, fenders, doors and quarters, bumpers, headlights and taillight clusters convey the WRX STI identity. Narrow headlights, with standard LED low-beams, evoke 30

a raptor’s stare. The aluminum hood integrates a functional hood scoop supplies the intercooler with fresh air. Other performance-oriented details include fog light surrounds with a carbon fiber-like pattern and front fender vents that feature a mesh screen. A rear diffuser and LED taillights leave a distinctive signature. The aluminum BOXER engine and simple, symmetrical drivetrain layout help to lower the WRX STI’s center of gravity, a trait that contributes to its famous corner-carving handling characteristics. The springs, dampers, crossmembers, subframe bushings, and front control-arm bushings and attachments are all stiffer than in the previous model. The body structure makes extensive use of high-tensile steel and features special stiffening elements at key locations. The inverted-strut front suspension system exhibits high bending resistance for quicker and more consistent performance under December 2021

hard cornering. Aluminum front lower L-arms reduce unsprung vehicle weight. The aluminum alloy lower control arms use pillow ball-type joint bushings and pillow ball-type joint mounts, and the rear suspension lateral links also use this type of bushing. Solid rubber engine mounts help to minimize engine movement, which in turn enhances handling agility. The hydraulic power-assisted steering provides 2.5 turns lock-tolock, providing exceptionally quick response, which was benchmarked against top-handling sports cars. Standard 19-inch alloy wheels wear 245/40R18 summer performance tires, with the Limited trim featuring BBS forged aluminumalloy wheels. Exclusive to the WRX STI, the Brembo® Performance Brake System uses ventilated 4-wheel Super Sport anti-lock (ABS) disc brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution WRX STI Please Turn To Page 36 www.IneedOEMparts.com

Wrangler 4xe Powertrain Include 375 horsepower, 470 lb.-ft. of Torque The standard technological equipment includes a 8.4-inch UconnectTM NAV system with touchscreen, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for on-board connectivity (such as smartphone monitoring of the vehicle’s parameters through the MY Uconnect app), and a 7-inch TFT display with information on battery charge level and range (in electric and hybrid mode). Wrangler From Page 14 injection engine uses a twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger mounted directly to the cylinder head, along with a dedicated cooling circuit for the turbocharger, intake air and throttle body for exceptional responsiveness, performance and fuel efficiency. A high-voltage, liquid-cooled motor generator unit mounts at the front of the engine, replacing the conventional alternator. A robust belt connects the motor generator to the engine crankshaft pulley. The motor generator spins the engine for nearly seamless, fuel-saving, start-stop operation and generates electricity for the battery pack. The Wrangler 4xe does not use a conventional 12-volt starter motor. The Wrangler 4xe is equipped with a 12-volt battery to run accessories. The second high-voltage motor generator is mounted at the front of the transmission case, replacing the conventional torque converter of an automatic transmission. Two clutches work to manage power and torque from the e-motor and engine. A binary clutch (on/off) is mounted between the engine and the motor. When this clutch is open there is no mechanical linkage between 32 Southern Automotive Journal

Like all Trail Rated Jeep Wranglers, the Wrangler 4xe is capable of water fording up to 30 inches.

the engine and the e-motor, which enables it to propel the Wrangler 4xe in electric-only mode. When the binary clutch is closed, torque from the 2.0-liter engine and the e-motor flow combine through the automatic transmission. A variable clutch mounted behind the e-motor manages engagement with the transmission to improve drivability and efficiency. Battery Pack Preserves Interior Room The Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s 400volt, 17-kWh, 96-cell lithium-ion battery pack uses nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) graphite chemistry. December 2021

The pack and controls mount underneath the second-row seat, where it is protected from outside elements. The Wrangler 4xe’s second-row seat is redesigned, allowing the bottom cushion to flip forward for access to the battery. Encased in an aluminum housing, the pack is fitted with a dedicated heating and cooling circuit to keep the battery at its optimum temperature for best performance. The temperature control circuit includes a dedicated heater unit and a chiller that uses the Wrangler air-conditioning refrigerant to reduce coolant temperature when needed. www.IneedOEMparts.com

The Wrangler 4xe hybrid system includes an Integrated Dual Charging Module (ICDM), which combines a battery charger and a DC/DC converter in a single unit that is more compact than two separate components, and a next-generation Power Inverter Module (PIM) that is reduced in size. These components are housed and protected from damage in a steel structure mounted below the battery pack. All high-voltage electronics, including the wiring between the battery pack and the electric motors, are sealed and waterproof. Like all Trail Rated Jeep Wranglers, the Wrangler 4xe is capable of water fording up to 30 inches (76 cm). Regenerative braking is a key part of the Wrangler 4xe eco-friendly equation. When the driver steps on the brake pedal, the powertrain control engages the maximum available regenerative braking, up to 0.25 g, from the electric motors to slow the vehicle, augmented with the Wrangler’s traditional friction brakes. The regenerative braking feature also extends the replacement period for brake pads. Off-road Legend Jeep Wrangler’s heritage is

defined by its legendary off-road capability. All Wrangler 4xe power modes are available when the drivetrain is shifted to 4Lo. The seamless integration of electric power into the 4x4 drivetrain elevates the Wrangler 4xe to new levels of off-road performance. Enthusiasts will find that the instant availability of torque from the Wrangler 4xe’s electric motor delivers a more precise and controlled driving experience for climbing and crawling – there’s no need to build up engine rpm to get the tires to move, minimizing driveline shock loading and maximizing control and speed. The new Jeep Wrangler 4xe is available in three models: Sahara 4xe, Rubicon 4xe and High Altitude 4xe. Wrangler Sahara 4xe and High Altitude 4xe models are equipped with full-time 4x4 systems, front and rear next-generation Dana 44 axles and are fitted with the Selec-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. The intuitive system allows the driver to set it and forget it in any environment. Mopar and Jeep Performance Parts Supports Launch of Most Capable, Technically Advanced, Eco-

friendly Jeep Wrangler Ever The comprehensive portfolio of more than 300 Jeep Wrangler products will include exclusive Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) offerings, allowing customers the opportunity to expand upon the Wrangler’s funto-drive on- and off-road experiences. An industry-first, OEM-developed JPP 2-inch lift kit is specifically engineered and tuned for the Wrangler 4xe plugin hybrid application. Additional products will include beadlock-capable wheels, off-road bumpers, LED off-road lights and rock rails, just to name a few. More detailed information will be available closer to launch. Unlike any other aftermarket offerings, Jeep Performance Parts and accessories are backed by a full factory warranty. The products are created in close conjunction with the Jeep brand, engineering and product design-office teams for development, testing and validation. Strict standards and factory-exclusive data — information not available to the aftermarket — are used to seamlessly integrate performance parts and accessories in order to deliver proper fit, finish and quality right down to the color, grain, and appearance of each product.n
