I wish to thank all of the members that have participated in updating their membership profile information and photographs. If you have not yet had the opportunity to update your profile, we encourage you to do so. This helps us maintain the exclusivity of our Club while protecting your account from misuse. You can update your profile by visiting either the Club's Membership office, Golf Pro Shop, Fitness & Wellness Center, Barlovento or Encanto Beach Club. We will be emailing the 2014 Member Survey to you at the end of October. We had a 72% participation by membership last year and I hope we can repeat that level of success. When you receive the survey, please complete and return as soon as possible. The survey will be in Spanish and English, if you would like us to send you a paper copy, contact Francisco Figueroa, ffigueroa@doradobeach.com, in the Membership office. There have been several changes to the Fitness & Wellness Center over the past few months and I encourage you to visit the facilities. Additional classes have been added, the retail space improved, new menu items added at the juice bar and we will be installing new carpeting later this month. New menus at the Watermill, Zafra and Barlovento restaurants have also been implemented. We recently had a few situations with dogs and I just want to highlight our dogs or other pets’ policy to ensure the safety in our premises. With the exception of those dogs assisting persons with disabilities dogs and other pets’ are not permitted in the buildings or pool areas of the Club Facilities, except with the permission of the Club. Where dogs are permitted in designated areas, they must be on a leash at all times. Recently we launched a new website for the Plantation Resort Residences, www.plantationresidences.com. I encourage you to visit this site when booking reservations for your family and guests that are visiting from out of town. Pricing now includes accommodations that offer 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. In conclusion, I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of our new Members and their families who have joined Dorado Beach this year. The new Member Referral Program has been very successful and thank you to all who have participated. See you around the Club! Warm Regards, David R. Tyson General Manager/COO Dorado Beach Resort & Club

Nature 5K Our Nature 5k was celebrated on August 23rd on a perfect weather window of what was otherwise a very rainy day. The decision to go on with the race on the morning of proved to be the right one as 62 runner, joggers and walkers showed up and enjoyed the great scenic route that took them from the Fitness & Wellness Center, past Encanto, West Point, The Greens and the Fairways and finished off at Barlovento where a delicious hearty breakfast awaited. It was a close race to the finish between Jorge Mendez and Julio Torres. Jorge led most of the way until the small incline hill near the Greens slowed him down and Julio was able to catch up and take over the lead. Jorge caught up to Julio near the 18th hole of the West

course where they continued together pacing each other. It wasn’t until the final stretch of the race at 18 East that Jorge tightened up with the last amount of energy he had left and pulled away to take the victory by just 11 seconds! It was a sight to see as members of

all ages, parents with baby carriages and even a baby on mom’s back crossed the finish line with a smile. Congratulations to Jorge Mendez for the overall win and young Paola Rodriguez for the first Female finisher!

Arte Fist Foundation in collaboration with Dorado Beach Resort, has developed a new project entitled "Museographic Production Project” where temporary exhibitions are presented. For this reason, the Plantation Club House was chosen as a meeting point between the art and the community since it serves as a central point for the residents and guests. The design is based on four steel structures measuring 10’ x 10’, each one with a wooden frame embedded in the wall. These four pieces serve as a permanent exhibition platform. The materials that the team chose was steel and wood, which are inspired by the surroundings in the Plantation Club House, so the pieces appear in complete harmony with the space. The only pieces that are going to serve as a highlight in the space is the artwork. This artwork is going to be in constant change so that every few months, the community is going to see a complete new theme, serving as an informative place. front view

Fitness and Wellness New Trainers

Roderick Barceló The Fitness Center is excited to welcome Roderick to their team. Roderick studied Exercise Science in Iowa. Had the opportunity to travel and play college baseball for four years. Roderick also worked with the Washington Nationals Baseball Organization as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the professional athletes. Roderick is a well-rounded trainer who is qualified to not only prepare sports conditioning programs but also work with special populations with specific needs. You will see Roderick at the fitness center, now teaching Gentle Fitness Wednesdays at 11am. If you are looking for an instructor to give you undivided attention and help you safely attain your health and fitness goals contact the fitness center while he still is available. Meet Marlene McCarley Dorado Beach’s newest fitness professional. Marlene is a former Junior Mexican Olympic Team competitor with lots of experience and passion in Track and Field. Marlene will be teaching our new Eco-BootCamp class on Sundays at 11am. If outdoor fitness is not your thing you can catch her in our new evening Zumba class and enjoy her spunky class Thursdays at 6pm or if you want an insane challenge join her Wednesday nights for Insanity class at 6pm for Insanity. If you prefer one-on-one personal training and would Marlene to challenge you and guide you as your personal trainer, call the fitness center to book your sessions.

New Class Schedule!

New Classes!

GENTLE FITNESS- Wednesdays 11am Low-impact cardio and a total body workout for all major muscle groups. Exercise modifications are given to accommodate varying fitness abilities. The workout could include free weights, resistance bands, and exercise balls. This class is ideal for seniors, or anyone recovering from injury and easing their way into fitness. ECO-BootCamp – Sundays 10am We’ve had many requests for a Sunday fitness class, now there’s no more lazy Sundays! Combine fitness and the outdoors in this amazing challenging class. This ever changing class will take you around beautiful Dorado Beach with creative circuits. You will get the best of the best in this workout! INSANITY – Wednesdays 6pm Insanity is possibly the most difficult, cardiovascular-based workout program today, due to the strenuous pace of each workout. It is a total body, circuit training workout that uses only your body weight as resistance. Your workout will take approximately 60 minutes to complete. The system is based on the concept of “Max Interval Training.” Traditional interval training requires you to exercise at a highly intense pace for a short period with longer periods of rest in between. Max Interval Training, on the other hand, reverses that concept by having you working as hard as you can for 3-minute intervals, separated by short 30-second periods of rest. Get ready to be challenged!

Pro Tip Golf Swing

Jeff Willenberg Director of Golf The club is looking forward to a great fall season for competitive golf for adults and juniors. Our Member Match Play tournament begins in late September and concludes in mid-October while our Stroke Play championship will be played the first week of November. Our US Kids fall tournament schedule begins in October and is considered one of the best junior competitive tournaments on the island. Ladies, if you are interested in learning how to play golf and to meet new people, the club offers a ladies clinic every Tuesday and Thursday at 10am. The clinic has been tremendously successful and has grown since we started the program in August. We are also looking forward to expanding our junior after school clinics in October and November. Our golf pro shop has all the information for you and can sign you up for our tournaments and clinics.

Johnny Borrell Director of Instruction Everyone knows that golf is an extremely difficult game to master. The golf swing is incredibly complicated and takes lots of time and practice to properly train your body to consistently hit solid golf shots and score. The most important part of the golf swing, is the pre swing and set up, that is your body addressing the golf ball with the club correctly to allow your body to swing fluidly and consistently. Part of the pre swing is your body’s alignment to the target. I have put together a fast and easy way to properly align your body to the target and strike the ball solidly. 1. Stand behind ball and pick out an intermediate target about 3 feet in front of ball 2. Walk up to ball with eyes on intermediate target and place the clubface behind the ball so it is looking down the target line

3. Look at target when you set your feet then make your swing down your target line. Easy Golf Drill: 7 iron L to L drill half swing. With the ball in the middle of your stance keep connection under armpits, start backswing with chest and shoulders arms extended through impact towards target, weight off of right side finished onto left foot with front of body facing target. "The single most important maneuver in golf is the set-up"(meaning how you position yourself to the ball before you swing) "Set up correctly," and there's a good chance you'll hit a reasonable shot, even if you make a mediocre swing. Set up poorly, and you'll hit a lousy shot even if you make the greatest swing in the world. (Jack Nicklaus)

Talking About Tennis Adam Lane Tennis Professional This past summer the tennis program has been very active. From tournament success, daily clinics, and several trips to the main land to either play or watch tennis. Congratulations to Erica Braschi for winning the Puerto Rico Open. This is the most prestigious tournament in Puerto Rico with past winners that include names such

as Gigi Fernandez and Monica Puig. Erica won both the singles and the doubles titles this year. Erika is now studying and playing at Elon University in North Carolina where she received a tennis scholarship. I am sure with her talent she will transition smoothly from a top junior player to a successful college player. We wish her luck in the future. I took a trip with several members and students to the US Open in NYC at the end of August. While there we got to watch our Dorado Beach Touring Pro, Monica Puig, both practice and play her first round match. I spent some time with her agent and coach and gained valuable knowledge on the insights of a professional tour coach. Also at the Open I got to spend about 30 minutes with the legendary tennis coach and Tennis Hall of Fame Member, Nick Bollettieri. Nick has groomed over 10

world #1 tennis players and was the first coach to develop the “Tennis Academy” approach. Most people don’t know, but Nick was the Head Tennis Professional at Dorado Beach when it was a Rock Resort in the early 70s. He has a passion for Dorado Beach so look for some exciting news with Nick and Dorado Beach coming soon. PRO EXHIBITION Do you ever wonder if your tennis coaches can play? In support of Dorado Beach Turns Pink week, the tennis coaches will be putting on an exhibition of their talent. Come out October 4th at 3PM to see one or a few of the club coaches battle it out with some local tennis pros! Aces, winners, and light refreshments will be served up to support this worthy cause.

Congratulations! Dorado Beach would like to extend a big congratulations to Erica Braschi for her 1st Place in the Puerto Rico Open Tennis Championships! Erica came back to win after losing her first set to defeat Ana Cordero 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Puerto Rico Open Tennis Championships is the most prestigious tournament where the best players in Puerto Rico meet every year. Starting in the fall, Erica will be playing college tennis at Elon University in North Carolina.
