As we enter the spring season, I want to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy your Club and the amazing weather we are having. The wonderful news is the heavy rain that inundated this area for weeks on end has finally departed and all of our outside activities are in full swing. If you have not yet had the opportunity to participate with the PGA TourAcademy, please phone the Pro Shop and schedule a golf lesson with Jon Borrell. He is an outstanding golf instructor and we have been receiving rave reviews from everyone that has received a lesson from him. Improvements to the Club for the past few months include our new golf cart fleet, the renovation and expansion of the dining area at Zafra’s bar and beautiful renovations to Zafra’s restrooms, and the new deck at the Watermill. We are very appreciative of your patience while we complete these projects. I am very pleased to introduce the Ritz-Carlton Reserve’s new General Manager, George Sotelo and his family. George comes to Dorado Beach from the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, FL and is highlighted in our Spotlight section in this newsletter. We are also delighted to welcome back to the Dorado Beach team our new Director of Golf, Jeff Willenberg. Jeff worked for Dorado Beach 12 years ago, back when it was a Hyatt property. Jeff is a wonderful addition to our team and he looks forward to seeing old friends and meeting new Members. In addition, please join me in welcoming our new Hotel Manager, Craig Sacco. Craig brings with him 17 years of experience with the Ritz-Carlton, and will be responsible for Plantation Resort Residences. We welcome each of these fine gentlemen to our team! Safety has become a priority to me over the past year, after witnessing several accidents that caused harm to the individual driving, as well as to personal property. Based on the results of the Member survey, safety is of great importance to our membership as well. Golf carts are considered by some as toys, yet they can be rather dangerous, especially when used away from the golf course. The increase in accidents and injuries has been attributed to the growing capabilities of these vehicles and the increased speed and power. Golf cart safety not only requires safe driving but also proper maintenance of the vehicle. Please keep in mind that children under the age of 16 are not permitted to operate a golf cart, even a private cart, on Dorado Beach Resort property which includes the Rockefeller Trail. Only battery operated carts are allowed. Over the past 9 months we have seen significant improvement with this issue, but we can still improve. If you have not already registered your golf cart, we ask that you please do so promptly/without delay. This registration is part of the Golf Cart Policy that was implemented last summer. The Membership Office at the Clubhouse will register your golf cart and give you a new WHITE Dorado Beach Resort sticker for your cart. This is for the protection of Members and their golf carts. Our Men’s Member & Guest Tournament is around the corner and is going to be an outstanding event that you don’t want to miss! The Saturday party will be at the Surf Room at Encanto with great food, music and camaraderie. We look forward to seeing you there. As always, the staff remains focused and committed on improving your overall Club experience, from food and beverage to the conditions of the golf course and Club amenities. Fist_art Foundation Fist_art Foundation, a Dorado Beach non-profit organization, explores new horizons in specialized art concepts designed to celebrate contemporary art and to reach the public eye. Its mission is to develop site-specific works of art and educational programs that respond to our constantly changing relationship with nature. By exposing innovative art to an open landscape outside of museum walls serves as an ideal setting for the broadening of the general consciousness of both art and nature.
Carlos Mercado Alternative Nature Installation
Spotlight Meet George Sotelo, the newly appointed General Manager of the Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve. As a seasoned hospitality professional, Sotelo joins Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve with a broad knowledge in ultra-luxury resorts. Having spent seven years as Hotel Manager of the One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico, he was instrumental in positioning the 173-room hotel as one of the leading luxury resorts in the world. In addition to various executive roles, he also served as Managing Director for the Trump Hotel Collection in Miami, were he was directly responsible for leading all efforts in repositioning the hotel to a world-class luxury resort. A native of Colombia and a member of the Luxury Hotelier’s Association, Sotelo offers a deep knowledge and vision for quality and excellence that lends itself to creating a premium luxury experience that complements Dorado Beach’s luxury portfolio of amenities as the America’s only Reserve. Bilingual in Spanish and English, Sotelo is based in Puerto Rico with his wife Simone and three boys George, Sergio and Jayden. Sotelo admits having visited Puerto Rico 20 years ago but did not know of Dorado Beach. After being offered the job and visiting Dorado, he is now in love with the property and believes it has all the right elements to be the best resort in the world. Recognizing that the clientele the resort hosts is one that is used to 5 star service, he promises to improve the level of service offered to better their expectations.

Celebrating its 2nd edition “Art in Golf Triennale 2015”, Fist_art Foundation arranged the inaugural event of Alternative Nature, an installation featuring the works by Puerto Rican artist Carlos Mercado. The event took place on Thursday, February 27 during the evening. As guests arrived at the West Course of Dorado Beach Resort, an immediate discourse emanated between the observers and the objects on display, which was perfectly captured by the reflective
surface of the pieces. The images of tropical fruit pays tribute to nature, while the installation intervenes with nature itself as the multiple artworks are scattered across the golf course and immersed in its surrounding environment. Such juxtaposition perpetrated by the artist sets up the dialogue of nature portrayed by art in nature, allowing those who attended the affair engage in discussion, resulting in the complete synthesis of art, nature, and human activity.

Fist_art Foundation Dorado Beach is proud to be part of the community and invests its artistic and historical efforts in maintaining a high quality environment within the social and recreational areas we share. We aim to provide a variety of visual and interactive experiences such as art installations and educational programs, community projects and events including the preservation of Dorado Beach’s legacy. Fist_art Foundation has taken great interest in renewing “Chi Chi” Rodriguez wall inside Zafra Restaurant. Juan Antonio “Chi Chi” Rodríguez is one of the greatest sports figures in Puerto Rican history. Recognized internationally for his outstanding
achievements in the sport of golf, he is beloved by many for his charismatic nature on the golf course and generous donations. He is a cherished figure within Dorado Beach, which is where his career started and currently resides, demonstrating his devotion towards the place he was first discovered for his talent. Manager Maria Morales has been of great help, not only providing Chi Chi’s personal archive of memorabilia and awards, but investing time and research for historical contexts. We highly anticipate the presentation of the new wall, which is due very soon, as a celebration of a highly important figure within Dorado Beach’s legacy.

Fun Land Fun Land was held on February 22 to a on and off rainy day but no rain could dampen the kids fun. With a variety of inflatables, dunk booth, carnival games, mechanical bull, merry go round plus free popcorn and cotton candy for all, there was certainly something to enjoy for kids of all ages. The Jose Andres Food Truck was present with its delicious menu for adults to enjoy.

Delightful Night at Encanto Beach Club
Encanto al Jazz was a special event, relaxed and filled with joy and lovely music. Members of Dorado Beach and some pleasant and friendly guests enjoyed a beautiful evening and the sound from the jazz bands Mar Picao, Toque Azul and guitar player Mike Arroyo. During the event, guests enjoyed cocktails from Grey Goose Fresh Taste, a modern workstation equipped to freshly squeeze fruits. The event was sponsored by Grey Goose. Autogermana, Heineken and Veuve Clicquot also formed part of the event.

Don Q Gran Añejo and RichArt presented their 5th Edition of the collection that unites the exquisite French chocolate with the best rum from Serrallés. Presented by Nanette Rosa, Dorado Beach Members and lovely guests tasted first hand the delicious series that consists of five flavors: coquito, nuts, passion fruit, coffee, and last but not least, the pure flavor: a drop of Don Q Gran Añejo in chocolate with 71% of cocoa.

Talking About Tennis As you may have heard last month I had the honor of coaching the junior fed cup team in the Dominican Republic. The girls finished 3rd out of 12 teams. It was a great experience to watch the quality of players other Caribbean and Central America are producing. Puerto Rican tennis is well ahead of most countries in the region. Hopefully next time we can come out victorious.

On another note, our touring pro Monica Puig will be representing Puerto Rico in Women's Fed Cup. She will be joined on the squad by one of our junior academy players Chantel Martinez. Chantel has been training with us for a little over a year and is only a Junior in high school. This is a great honor to be selected as one of the four team members. The women's fed cup will be held the week of April 7th at Palmas del Mar. Our beginners’ women’s clinic has been a great success. Please feel free to come out and join us every Wednesday morning from 9-10am. The clinic is FREE to all members. This summer we will be hosting 2 types of tennis camps; one for our recreational players and one for our performance players. Be on the lookout for the announcements of times and dates for these camps.
Bodyweight Blaster Workout Circuit: 3-5 rounds
Directions 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees 2. Line cookie sheet with foil and spray generously with non-stick spray 3. Rice the cauliflower florets, in a food processor or grate manually 4. Microwave rice cauliflower for 8 minutes. Set aside 5. In another bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients, and add “riced” cauliflower. Mix well 6. Pour mixture onto cookie sheet.
