Jessica Rodriguez is our new Director of Hotel Operations at Plantation Resort Residences. Jessica comes to us from The Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino, her expertise in Guest Services and hospitality background will complement the exceptional experience our guests receive at our Resort Residences.

Jessica Rodriguez
As part of our commitment to deliver an exceptional golf experience to all club members and Dorado Beach Resort Guests, we are pleased to announce our new Director of Golf, Chad Campbell who joins us directly from Pinehurst Country Club in North Carolina where he was the Director of Golf. Chad brings to Dorado Beach a wealth of knowledge in sports and management alike. At Pinehurst he hosted 4 USGA Championships; 1 US Senior Open, 2 US Open and a US Amateur as well as exceeding sales and membership objectives during his tenure. His experience will strengthen our membership community by adding value to every aspect of the game of golf. Plans are to build a golf academy, deliver a calendar of events that will attract member participation and improve everyone’s competitive abilities. As a class A member of the PGA of America, Chad holds a BA in Marketing from Tarleton SU in Texas and is honored with multiple recognitions as an active member in his community. His acceptance to move to Puerto Rico proves that Dorado Beach is the most valued member club on the island and in the Caribbean. Most of you have met or known Jorge Rodriguez; he is now on board as our Outside Service Manager of the Dorado Beach Golf Operations. Jorge in conjunction with Robert Birtel, Tony Loyola and Joel Ortiz will play an integral role in delivering all these proposed plans as they become available in the months to come. With NBC/Golf Channel on property between June 1st - 18th, I want to thank everyone for your support, patience and understanding during production. Please check each day with the pro-shop for golf course availability. I hope everyone has a fantastic summer at the club and if we can do anything to enhance your experience, please let us know.

Spotlight Jessica Rodriguez – Hotel Manager What do you hope to accomplish in your new role? I wish to see our great small hotel operation become a world class home away from home for all of our guests!
you have all around the property. But If I have to choose, I really like the Barlovento area. I simply enjoy the ocean breeze!
How many years have you been in the industry? I’ve been in the hospitality industry since the beginning of 2001 where my first job was as a pantry attendant for a month. After that I was transferred to the front desk and 13 years after here I am.
Outside of work, what do you do for fun? Play tennis. I’m not a pro but I’ll get there! I love to run, it’s been a while but I hope to pick up on it soon. I enjoy dinner dates with friends & family and spend quality time with them as well. Whether it’s walking around the mall or having a cup of tea, I simply enjoy the conversation and of course as a good Puerto Rican, who doesn’t like a party here and there!
What do you love most about your new job? I love driving down the main entrance and see the line of Palm trees. It makes me feel like a movie star!! But most important, I love the passion my team has for what they do. I just know that with them our goal will be accomplished and to know it can be done as a team makes it exciting! Have you had a chance to explore the property yet? What is your favorite place? I have and it’s stunning! There are so many wonderful places here that you can choose from but I truly enjoy the great views
What is something you recommend that every Dorado Beach member do here at the resort? I highly recommend for them to hop on their golf carts and enjoy the ride around the property. To stop and have a fabulous hot dog at Barlovento so that later they can work it out at our fabulous fitness center! Or to simply unwind at one of our great golf courses and the Club House terrace while enjoying their favorite glass of wine. So much to do it’s very difficult just to choose one!

Pet Love The fourth edition of Pet Love 2013 was held on April 20th with an exhibition Opening Day. The purpose of this event is to increase people awareness of the love and care a pet deserves. Also, this project intends to motivate participants to expand their knowledge in photo editing, investigating artistic styles to enhance photography and best capture those unforgettable moments that fill us with joy, happiness and wellbeing. Funds of this event were donated to “Organizacion Pro Bienestar, Rescate y Adopcion de los Animales Corp.”

Easter Brunch Once again we held our Traditional Easter Brunch with around 250 attendants. Our Executive Chef Jose Cedeño and his professional team offered an exquisite menu and creative displays. Members, guests and their family enjoyed and exceptional service and delightful brunch while children’s were entertained by the Easter Bunny and Easter hunt.

2013 Men’s Member & Guest In this years’ 2013 Member & Guest Golf Weekend Extravaganza, members were able to showcase the club to their guests in an ambiance filled with great golf, camaraderie and fun. As 168 players registered friday, they received their “boarding passes” for all social events through the weekend which were planned with very special attention and coordinated along with Chef Cedeño’s culinary team.
Friday night was “Stag Night”, where golfers and spouses enjoyed a night of golf contests, DJ music and open bar. Saturday morning, spouses had the chance to brunch, meet and chat with jewelry designer Erika Peña while enjoying a glass of Laurent Perrier sponsored by Lexus. The event was a total success and some of her creations were raffled among attendees.
Saturday night was the event that marked the weekend as guests checked in at the International Soiree with live food stations from around the world, live music from Cuenta Regresiva and lots of party and fun! The three day event wrapped up with 5 de Mayo Awards Ceremony Sunday, with authentic Mexican cuisine, great prizes including hotel stays, jewelry pieces and a $10,000.00 gift certificate towards the
purchase of a new Lexus among others. Members and guests were surprised with mariachis at the end of the event. Our team surpassed members’ expectations whom demonstrated their passion for service throughout the weekend, delivering a memorable event for all. Mother’s Day Invitational – May 14 Golf ladies and their guests were treated to a special golf day as a token of appreciation on mother’s day and for their support and dedication to the Club. More than 40 ladies joined us colorfully dressed and were greeted with a delicious breakfast created by our culinary team lead by Chef Cedeño. Out they went and played 18 holes at the East Course as a special treat awaited in the cart. At the awards ceremony they were received with one of Laura Griffith’s creations, a succulent lunch prepared specially for them and live dj music. Raffle prizes included hotel stays around the island, wine, gift bags and a 2 night, 3 day stay at Dorado Beach, a Ritz Carlton Reserve. Ladies had fun, the day offered a perfect weather and as some say they were treated as they deserve “As princesses”. We look forward to next year’s event!

Saborea What a great day! Saborea Puerto Rico, a Culinary Extravaganza took over the grounds of el Parque del Tercer Milenio in San Juan. Hundreds of people from all corners of the island, the US and beyond arrived to the Saborea village to enjoy a sunny afternoon of food tastings, cool drinks, and entertainment. Chef Cede単o and his culinary team did an amazing job showcasing the creations from Zafra which included chickpeas with chorizo and calasparra rice with clams. A beautiful setting at the main pavilion where more than 500 guests tasted a piece of Zafra. Kudos to our team for making a great demonstration!
Mercado Dorado In January this year, Dorado Beach Resort began Mercado Dorado, a great initiative to create a vibrant forum in Dorado Beach Resort that connected community residents, members, nearby rural food producers and artists in a mutually beneficial economic and cultural exchange. The atmosphere was casual, the open air commerce enticing, the goods fresh, and the result remarkable. Mercado Dorado became an instant institution. Vendors continue to support the initiative and the list went from 10 to more than 30; and we have also incorporated a monthly charity. We would like to thank all members that support Mercado Dorado as we rely on our members and the community to contribute for its success. Mercado Dorado takes a break from July to September 2013 and reinitiates in October until December 2013 at Plantation Village. Most players add strokes to their rounds because of 3-putts and most 3-putts are a result of bad distant control rather than poor direction or aim. A great way to warm up before your round improve your distance control is by doing “The Ladder” drill. To do the ladder drill; find a flat area around the edge of the putting green. From the edge of the green place a 5 golf balls in a line, in 3 foot increments away from the edge of the green. Start by putting the closest ball to the edge towards the edge of the green then
continue putting the other balls to the same edge. The goal of each putt is to make the ball come to rest within the putterhead of the edge of the green. Start will a flat putt but don’t be scare to trying the same on uphill or down hill putts. This drill will take some time to master but once you do you will have a better understanding of your putting stroke from different distances. Better understanding leads to better command of your distance control and no more 3 putts!
Once you get comfortable aiming the ball, then you can start adding more power by taking the racquet behind your body more often. Of course, professional coaching is always the fastest way to improve. The first 5 new tennis players to contact me will receive a free 30 minute tennis lesson. See you on the courts.
