Zaboochi the Turtle Zaboochi the Turtle loved to play songs on his clarinet. He had a beautiful shell and a beautiful song. His music wove through the vines and floated above the treetops. All of the creatures of the jungle listened to his song. But for some, Zaboochi’s song was sour. Gorilla could remember when Zaboochi tricked him into looking for bananas. And Frog could remember when Zaboochi tricked him into finding flies. And Leopard could remember when Zaboochi tricked him into chasing his own tail. But the birds of the air really loved Zaboochi’s music and they sang when he played . All of the birds loved his music except for Eagle who could not sing and waited for the day when he could eat the little turtle. There had come a time when all of the birds were invited to a festival in the forest. The King of The Forest called all of the birds together to sing, to rejoice, and to receive his blessing. Zaboochi wanted to go too after he saw the birds flying. Zaboochi told Eagle that he wanted to play his clarinet for The King of The Jungle. Eagle told Zaboochi that he may not be able to make music like Zaboochi but could fly him all the way to the forest. “ Take me with you” said Zaboochi. Eagle told Zaboochi to climb on his back. Eagle spread his wings and leapt into the air. Zaboochi tried hard to hold on. Suddenly, Eagel had turned upsidedown and Zaboochi fell to the ground. All the plants and trees made room for Zaboochi. But Zaboochi had landed on the rock with a crack and his beautiful shell broke into pieces. Then the music of the festival of the jungle stopped. The King of The Jungle looked at Eagle and got angry that Eagle could not find Zaboochi. All of the birds flew everywhere looking for Zaboochi. Hornbill, Parrot, and Toucan found Zaboochi lying helplessly on the rock. The birds took the pieces of Zaboochi’s shell and patched them together. After they were done, Zaboochi played a song of thanks for them. All the birds sang except for Eagle who still cannot sing. This is the story of how little Zaboochi got his shell back together again with the help of his singing friends. The End
