Decorate your home for New Year: A checklist We all know that New Year is just around the corner. Create a festive mood for a New Year celebration by decorating your home with the right accessories. Nothing can be more outstanding than starting the year with a great party midst impressive decoration. Deck up your home in festive cheer by following our checklist. 1. Plan the decoration before hand and make a list of all the items to be bought. 2. Choose a theme to decorate each space. Each room should have a different theme to give a unique look. For e.g. give a single colour theme or retro look to your bedroom. 3. Keep the decorations simple, elegant and uncluttered. Play with your imaginations. 4. Blow up a dozen of glossy balloons and place them in a corner. Let them drift away as people move around your home. 5. The main entrance of your home can have swags tied of evergreen branches draped with ribbons and ornaments. Add herbs like cinnamon and cloves for natural fragrance. 6. You can place large glasses and bowls filled with chocolates, candies, nuts, sweets, etc. 7. Make large paper/cardboard flowers which can be glued to the doors, walls, certain floor spaces and on tables. 8. The stairway and the porch railings can be draped with sparkly paper strings or make your own strings out of leaves, flowers or berries. 9. You can cover the entire ceiling of your hall with streamers and colourful glossy balloons. You can hire a balloon company to install a balloon drop to be released at midnight. 10. DIY bells made out of coloured paper can be a great centerpiece. Make a bunch of bells tied with ribbons and hang them on different corners of your house. You can also hang a pair of bells at your main entrance. 11. Have a kiosk with party favours, hats and noisemakers for the guests at the time of the celebration. 12. Think of creative DIY containers to serve your guests with chips and confetti. Place toys and board games for your guests along with bloopers, costume pieces, eye glasses and boppers printed with the year. 13. Decorate your dining table based on a theme. Cover the table with a black cloth and sprinkle silver wrapped candies on it between the


dishes. Decorate your chairs and table legs with satin bows. The silverware should blend well with the table theme. Make your own DIY napkins tied with bows. 14. The open spaces in and around your home can be installed with banners and signs having your favourite pictures. You can also put up banners and signs with your guests’ old pictures to make them feel special. Spaces like your garden and entryways and corridors can have the banners. 15. Give your home a festive outlook by lighting all the spaces. Have indoor lights, lamps, string lights, garden lights, and DIY lights in various shapes of butterflies, stars, flowers etc. You can add them even in places like bathroom, kitchen and dining room. The outdoor walkways can also be lit with lights on poles and lanterns. Have strings in maximum number of places. Keep in mind that you use only LED lights as they are very energy efficient and long lasting. 16. Have a New Year resolution wall where your guests can scribble down their resolutions. If not a wall, you can have white boards and marker pens. You can always be innovative and opt for other ideas to decorate your home more creative and cheerful!
