Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Satellite City in Pune Satellite Cities in India have gained significant importance in recent times with many such cities being developed in the vicinity of major cities. An urban concept, it facilitates decongestion of the main city, besides relieving it of many vices inherent to urban living. They include issues like population explosion, traffic congestion, garbage disposal, road and infrastructure maintenance of important facilities, among others. It is considered as the ‘twin city’ of Pune and consists of many other towns as well. They include Pimpri, Chinchwad, Bhosari, Nigdi, Sangavi and Moshi. Collectively, they are governed by a common municipal body called the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The city was established in 1982 and has a total area of about 171 sq.km. As per the 2011 census, the Pimpri-Chinchwad has a population of about 1,729,320, with a population density of about 10,000 persons per sq.km. It includes many prominent micro-markets like Pimpri, Chinchwad, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Saudagar and Pimple Nilakh, among others. Well connected It is well connected to the city center as well as to other areas across the city through some major roads passing through it. Important highways passing through the area or its vicinity include Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Mumbai-Pune Bypass Road, Old Mumbai-Pune highway as well as Pune-Nashik highway. Other important roads that enhance the connectivity to the area include Nigadi-Bhosari Road, Service Road and Aundh-Ravet Road, among others. The nearest railway station is the Chinchwad railway station which is about 3 km away while the Pune Junction railway station is about 18 km away. Akurdi railway station and Pimpri railway station are other prominent railway stations in the vicinity. Pune International Airport is about 25 km south-east of the area with excellent connectivity offered via the Old Mumbai-Pune highway.


Good infrastructure facilities Pimpri-Chinchwad is also bestowed with excellent infrastructure facilities. It is one of the important industrial hubs in Asia. Besides, it is also renowned for housing many prominent automobile companies like Mahindra & Mahindra, Premier Limited, Bajaj Auto, Daimler Chrysler, Force Motors, Kinetic Engineering and Tata Motors, among others. Besides, Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park is also located here which houses many renowned IT companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, IBM and Accenture, among others. Many prestigious educational institutions are also located here. They include schools like Cambridge International School, Global Indian International School and City International School, among others. There are also many reputed colleges like DY Patil College of Engineering, SB Patil College of Management and IIBM College of Hotel Management, among others. Realty impact The development of Pimpri-Chinhwad as a Satellite city has had a major impact on the realty market in the locality with many residential apartments and villas being developed by prominent developers. Some of the prominent completed apartment projects in the locality are GK Fortune Jarvari – Phase 2 by GK Developer, Prime Plus – Phase 2 by Siddhivinayak Group and DNV Elite Homes by DNV Builders among others. Besides, there are also many important upcoming apartment projects here like Empire Square by Empire Propoerties, Navkar Mantra by Navkar Propoerties and Polite Panorama by Polite Group, among others.
