Precautions While Installing Safety Grills and Their Fabrication When it comes to security, there is no such thing as too much security. Ample measures must be taken to ensure safety to the residents of houses without compromising on the ventilation. High quality window grilles and security grilles are available that will protect the house from intruders. These grilles should be properly fabricated for proper fixing, strength and aesthetic appeal. Fabrication of Window Grilles and Ventilators Window grilles should be properly fabricated according to the appropriate size and space available in the windows. Normally, standard size MS steel flat or steel bars are used to design the required measurements. The actual length of each window grilles, during the fabrication, should be cut using cutter and not by chisel as this can lead to imperfections in final length, thus affecting the fabrication work. Security Grille Holes Proper holes, called as counter sunk holes, should be drilled in the grille sides before the pieces are welded together. It is not advised to punch the side member with holes, instead complete the process with a drilling machine. While drilling, care should be taken to keep the corners of the grilles at right angles and that all the members of the grille should be placed in a straight line to achieve uniformity. Flash butt welding or metal arc welding is usually employed to weld the corners. After the initial process, grind the joints to gain finishing. It should be noted that the grilles are welded fast to the window frames in iron windows. No cavity holes should be left alone. Fix Grilles with Steel Screws Steel screws are the best for connecting the wooden or aluminium frames. They hold fast and are strong enough to withstand any stress.
While screwing, the screws should be wholly inserted into the holes such that the top of the screws are not left above the grilles. If this happens, it is easier to remove them, thus compromising on the safety. Select Good Grille Materials When installing grilles, keep in mind that they should provide safety and stay intact for a long period of time. So select grilles made from good quality materials that are free from crack, imperfect edges, surface flows and are rough. Since safety is the priority, the grilles should withstand rust and scaling and be durable so select grilles made from mild steel, square or round bars. These types are also strong and can hold fast without breaking apart. While installing the grilles, the MS rods should be spaced within 3 to 4 inches. This close spacing will give them a collective strength and also intruders will find it difficult to hack them apart. Things to remember while installing safety door grill Ensure to properly fabricate grills according to the size and space available. Use caution when working at elevated heights and around unit openings. Use safe lifting techniques and enough people when handling heavy door grills. Priming coat should be done before fixing the grills. Grill made from rectangular bars are much stronger compared to cylindrical. Don’t hesitate to seek professional help, if you are installing it for the first time.
