Shared PG Accommodation-How to Deal A Roommate Who Make Messes? Roommates are fun to live with and a big help when staying away from home. But more often than not, it is hard to put up with people who makes messes and you have to find time to clean up after them. Some people are not at all clean and orderly and not willing to take up the responsibility either. So if you are sharing rooms with such a person, then you should make some ground rules.

Talk with them at the start: Most of the time, roommates don’t realize that their mess is bothering others in the house or room. So instead of bottling up your frustration, it is best to talk with them. It is always better to have an open discussion on how you want the house kept when you start to live together. Talk to them about how you want the place organized and what you expect from your roommate with regards to cleanliness. Leave space for compromise but don’t give a free hand too much. Have your own space: You and your roommate should have space divided among you to store your stuff. Allot storage space in shelves, cupboards and rooms so that both of your belongings don’t mix together. In this way, you can keep your place tidy while your partner can mess up his area so long as it doesn’t interfere with your personal space. When using common bathrooms, keep your personal toiletries in a separate container in your room instead of leaving them in the bathroom. Assign chores: If you need to have the whole house or place you occupy clean and tidy, then assign chores among your roommates. This is especially helpful when living with more than one roommate. You can do the cleaning for one week while your partner does the laundry. You can cycle through the chores each week. This is a friendly way to keep the place organized and maintain a healthy living atmosphere.

Take care of yourself: It is not easy to change the habits of others. So if your roommates lapse to their messy ways, the only thing you can do is take care of yourself. That way you relieve yourself of the tension and relax in your own comfort. Mark out your area in the living space and keep it tidy. Don’t allow anyone else to tinker with your personal space, so that it remains organised and tidy.
