BEYONCÉ MAKES HISTORY GRAMMYS 2023

The 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was a music awards ceremony held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on 5th of February, 2022. It recognized the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, running from 1st of October, 2021 to 30th

of September, 2022.

Beyoncé has the most Grammy wins of all time. On Sunday night, she made history with four wins, bringing her career total to 32. Her “Renaissance” win for best dance/electronic album put her in the history books, after also winning best R&B song for “Cuff It,” best

dance/electronic recording and traditional R&B performance.

Despite her success, Beyoncé was once again locked out of the coveted album of the year award. She has now lost the prize four times, most notably in 2017 when her confessional masterpiece Lemonade was beaten by Adele's 25. At the time, Adele used her acceptance speech to say Beyoncé was the more deserving winner (although she held on to the trophy). This year, Harry Styles took the crown, with Grammy voters recognising the slick, radio-friendly pop of his third record Harry's House.

In his speech, the British star downplayed the importance of the prize. In a more celebratory moment, the stage was taken over by more than two dozen rap icons, celebrating 50 years of hip-hop.

Turntable pioneer Grandmaster Flash kicked off the set with Flash Was

On The Beat, cueing up an almost 12-minute trawl through the genre's greatest hits.

Run-DMC played Rock The Bells, Public Enemy delivered a verse of Yo, Bum Rush The Show, Missy Elliot swept in for Lose Control and Busta Rhymes gave a show-stopping performance of his high-velocity

rap from Chris Brown's Look At Me Now.

Adele was also among the winners who took to the stage. Despite her partner Rich Paul apparently telling her "not to cry" should she win any of the gongs she was nominated for, the star was visibly emotional as she collected the best pop solo performance prize for her hit song Easy On Me, and dedicated it to her son, Angelo.

The 34-year-old accepted the award from her "new best friend" Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who she got to meet for the first time at the start of the night.

Bad Bunny opened the show, Luke Combs performed on the Grammys stage for the first time and Kacey Musgraves, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Mick Fleetwood and Quavo paid tribute to artists lost over the past year.

Adele may have been transported back to 2017 last night. The Grammy Awards on February 5 were a rematch between the Brit diva and Beyoncé, five years after Adele’s 25 beat Beyoncé’s Lemonade for Album of the Year, much to Adele’s chagrin. “I’m very humbled, and

I’m very grateful and gracious,” Adele said in her speech at the time. “But my artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album for me, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental.”

This year, Adele’s 30 didn’t triumph in that category, but … neither did Beyoncé’s Renaissance. Instead, that honor went to one Mr. Harry Styles, who beat out eight other nominees, for his album Harry’s House.

Zakes Bantwini, Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode are officially Grammy Award winners.

The trio won the Best Global Music Performance award for their hit

Bayethe at music's most prestigious event in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

"This moment right here to anybody who's in Africa just proves and affirms that every dream is valid," Zakes Bantwini said in his acceptance speech.

Nigerian artist Tems (Temilade Openiyi) earned her first Grammy award for her contribution to Future’s hit single ‘Wait For U’, which also features Drake. The President of the country, Muhammadu Buhari, saluted Nigerian Afro-soul singer Tems for her creative prowess that led to her Grammy victory.

THE BRITS AWARD 2023

The biggest night in British music is finally here – the 2023 Brit awards.

For the first time ever, this year’s event is took place on a Saturday night.

The Brits was presented by

returning host Mo Gilligan at the O2 Arena. The comedian took over hosting duties from Jack Whitehall last year.

Lizzo’s wonderfully camp performance truly injected some glitz and glam into what has, so far, been a decidedly low-key

awards show. Obviously her whipping out the flute was a real highlight, but even without it it would have been a beautiful, pink fluffy affair.

Artist of the year: Harry Styles

Another little under-the-table fist bump for Styles.

“Thank you again. I’m gonna start by – I wanna thank my family for being the most supportive, understanding, patient, loving family I could have ever asked for. I wanna thank my mum for signing me up

for X Factor without telling me, I literally wouldn’t be here without you. I wanna thank Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn cos I wouldn’t be here without you either.”

International song of the year: Beyoncé – Break My Soul

As we all know, she is not here! But here’s another message. “Thank you so much for loving Break My Soul! The only intention for this song was to dance, so thank you for joining this dance of freedom and individuality,” she says, thanking producer the-Dream.

Artist of the year: Harry Styles

I wanna thank my mum for signing me up for X Factor without telling me, I literally wouldn’t be here without you. I wanna thank Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn cos I wouldn’t be here without you either.”

International group: Fontaines DC

Most of the band are in Australia, as they helpfully tell us in a VT from Australia, standing in front of the Sydney Opera House. Clearly, their one man in the room, Carlos O’Connell, wasn’t sat in a prime spot as it takes him ages to reach the stage – but then he gives possibly the most

heartwarming speech of the night! “Feels lonely up here! My manager called me about a week ago and she was all like, ‘Y’know you’re going to the Brits next week on your own, make an effort, dress well, have a nice suit’, and I was like, what’s she trying to say to me? Don’t tell me i’m winning, I don’t wanna do this on my own!

More than 50 artists were nominated for the 2023 Brit Awards, with global stars Stormzy and Taylor Swift rubbing shoulders with newcomers like Central Cee and Mimi Webb.

KIM KARDASHIAN BUYS PRINCESS DIANA AMETHYST CROSS

The reality star purchased a diamond and amethystencrusted Attallah cross pendant from Sotheby's annual Royal & Noble auction on Wednesday, a piece of jewelrymost famously worn by Princess Diana. The pendant features square-cut amethysts surrounded by circular-cut diamonds weighing 5.25carats. Kardashian was able to secure this lot for $197,453, which Sotheby's noted was “double its preauction estimate.”

The late royal wore the accessory multiple times throughout the '80s, most notably pairing it with a dramatic purple Victorian velvet gown by Catherine Walker to attend a gala in

1987 in support of Birthright (which is now known as Wellbeing of Women, the only UK charity dedicated to funding research, education, and advocacy across all of women's reproductive and gynecological health).

A source close to the SKIMS founder revealed that Kim is 'honored to be able to own a fine piece of jewelry once worn by the late princess'

and to add to her growing collection of historic memorabilia worn by 'strong, iconic women who have inspired Kim.'

'Diana was a woman of incredible style, beauty, and grace. Kim is honored to be able to own a fine piece of jewelry once worn by the late princess.’

This beautiful cross pendant will be added to her growing collection of jewelry, all pieces that have been worn by strong, iconic women who have inspired Kim.'

The late Princess of Wales, who often made headlines for her bold fashion choices before she tragically passed away in a car accident in 1997, famously wore the glittery piece of jewelry during a London charity gala in October 1987.

She paired the lavish necklace with a black and burgundy long-sleeved velvet gown, which came with a ruffled neckpiece - and between the flashy pendant and the stylish dress, the Princess dazzled at the event.

The enormous cross pendant was made in 1920 by the jewelry company Garrard, and according to Vogue, Diana was friends with the man who owned it, British businessman Naim Attallah. The mogul, who passed away in 2021, loaned it to her for the event.

The 'bold and colorful' piece came with 'square-cut amethysts and circular-cut diamonds' - with a total diamond weight of approximately 5.25 carats.

It is now in possession of Kim, who seems to have a knack for buying clothing and jewelry that were previously owned by famous figures.

Kardashian has previously made headlines for rewearing pop culture artifacts.

Last May, she broke the internet — and sparked backlash — after stepping out at the 2022 Met Gala in the same crystal-embellished Jean Louis gown worn by Marilyn Monroe when serenading then-president John F. Kennedy on his birthday in 1962.

BOTCHED PLASTIC SURGERY

Is not uncommon to see patients who are excited by the opportunity to change their physical appearance to match the way they feel inside, that may mean reversing the signs of age, bringing the elements of their

face into greater harmony, or simply getting back to a prepregnancy body. Yet what gives them pause is the fear that they, too, might end up in one of those botched plastic surgery horror stories. There is a danger that hangs

over the cosmetic surgery industry—specifically, the risk of botched plastic surgery. While this is a fairly rare occurrence, it does happen occasionally around the world and there are plenty of horror stories of bad surgeons in bad facilities creating bad outcomes out there to confirm it.

Haley Layne, who stars on the British internet documentary series Hooked On The Look, has spent about half a million dollars on plastic surgery. While she’s 32 procedures closer to achieving what she considers the “perfect body,” the 28-year-old needs, by her

estimate, at least another 10. “Once you get to this level, there’s never any stopping,” Layne admitted on the show. “You have to maintain [this look] for the rest of your life.”

The best way to lower your chances of being on the receiving end of a botched cosmetic surgery procedure is by choosing the right surgeon. That said, it is a good idea to work with a surgeon who has been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery as it ensures that they have the knowledge and experience necessary to carry out specific cosmetic surgery procedures. Furthermore, board-certified

surgeons are more likely to follow minimum safety requirements.

Even when you’re working with an experienced, skilled, and board-certified cosmetic surgeon, certain complications may still arise. Of course, this is not an attempt to dissuade you from any procedure that you may have had your heart set on; moreover, it is an attempt to present to you what has become an unfortunate reality for many former cosmetic surgery patients. According to most cosmetic surgeons.

Hematoma – This particular

complication occurs in roughly 1 % of breast augmentation procedures. In short, a hematoma is a pocket of blood that forms after a patient has undergone surgery. In most cases, a second surgery will have to be performed to drain the blood.

Infection – This complication is also common among those who have undergone breast augmentation procedures. According to the National Institute of Health, 1.1 to 2.5 percent of those who undergo breast augmentation will eventually develop an infection even with proper postoperative care. Infections

that occur at the incision site can generally be treated with oral antibiotics. However, if the infection is internal, IV (intravenous) antibiotics may be needed.

Woman reveals horrifying botched surgery after bum implants painfully rotate inside her Deep vein thrombosis – This type of complication is especially common among those who undergo abdominoplasty or multiple cosmetic surgery procedures. Also known as DVT, deep vein thrombosis causes blood clots to form in veins. And if these blood clots break away and travel into the lungs, it can lead to a pulmonary embolism, which

can be fatal if not immediately treated.

In summation, there are things that you can do to lower your chances of falling victim to a botched surgery or experiencing many of the complications detailed in this article. Firstly, you should work with the right cosmetic surgeon, preferably one who is well-versed in the surgical procedure that you are interested in having performed. Second, you should follow your surgeon’s recommendations regarding proper postoperative care as it can significantly reduce your chances of developing infections and other complications.

VETERAN SOUTH AFRICAN ACTORLOUIS V. NIEKERK IS DEAD

Van Niekerk was a TV, stage and film actor as well as a theatre director. He was best known for his role as Uncle Festus in the popular kykNET soapie Getroud Met Rugby, which was cancelled in 2022 after 14 years on the air. The cause of van Niekerk's death has not yet been disclosed.

Actor Louis Mahoney, who appeared in films like Cry Freedom and TV shows Fawlty Towers and Doctor Who, has died at the age of 81.

Early in his career, Mahoney was

one of the first black actors in the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1960s.

He also helped found Performers

Against Racism in the 1980s to

campaign against apartheid in South Africa. And he worked as part of the Equity union to improve the representation of nonwhite actors on British TV.

A statement from his agents

Waring and McKenna said: "Louis paved the way for many actors who followed: a lifelong activist and champion of anti-racism.

Mahoney was born in The Gambia and moved to the UK in 1957 to study medicine, but decided in the

60s that his future lay in acting. His roles included the doctor in the 1975 Fawlty Towers episode The Germans, which was in the news recently when it was removed from a streaming service. He also appeared in a string of Doctor Who episodes and TV shows like Runaway Bay, Harbour Lights and Oscar Charlie. Earlier this year, he was seen in BBC One's The Split. His film credits included Richard Attenborough's 1987 drama Cry

Freedom, plus 1981 Omen sequel

The Final Conflict and 2013's Captain Phillips. He also remained a regular performer on stage. As chairman of Equity's AfroAsian Committee, he tried to persuade broadcasters and drama schools to reform their attitudes to overcome what he described as "big hurdles to be jumped by anybody who was non-white". London's Royal Court theatre remembered him as "a brilliant actor and the most wonderful human being; a devoted activist and extraordinary performer". Scriptwriter Jack Thorne said: "Louis Mahoney was one of those actors who could carry a whole world through his eyes. Perhaps because he led such an extraordinary life."

His involvement with Equity politics began in the early 1970s when he successfully lobbied to have the union’s Coloured Actors Committee renamed the AfroAsian Committee, and he was elected a council member in 1976. A fierce critic of apartheid he persuasively argued that members

should not perform to segregated audiences in South Africa and for a boycott of TV programme sales to that country. He stepped down in 2002 with the industry, in no small part due to his dogged campaigning, far better for emerging black actors than it was when he had started. While acknowledging that there was still work to do, he was never bitter.

He was fit – he used to talk, with a glint in his eye, about outrunning the National Front in Ilford in the early 60s, and a passionate cricketer. A fast bowler who had played at club level in the Gambia, he joined the Gentlemen of Hampstead and took part in charity matches (once bowling out Tom Graveney). He also did voluntary work for disadvantaged young black people. He is survived by his daughter, Sashola, from a 1971 marriage that ended in divorce, and three grandchildren, and by his sister, Cynthia.

BATTLE ON THE BUKANIGERIAN FILM ON NETFLIX

“Battle on Buka Street” begins with a scene that accentuates the the typical ‘noise’ of a busy West African city like Lagos. But, the fictional village is Otanwa, a small community that produces the kind of drama that will surprise most urban residents. The film is about a man (Nkem Owoh) a man with a polygamous background who prefers more wives than peace in his home. He follows the footsteps of his African forefathers, who acquired more wives than they could handle and ignites a rivalry between two of his wives –Asake (Sola Sobowale) and Ezinne (Tina Mba).

Co-directed by Funke Akindele and Tobi Makinde, Battle on Buka Street is a family drama of the comedy genre with the center of the plot being the rivalry between the two sisters. There are also several other subplots that are beautifully intertwined with the main plot making it a well-rounded wholesome story. It succeeds at being comic and we are kept laughing throughout, entertained with funny situations, dialogues and the acting that further heightens hilarity. Although situations get out of hand in some instances and the consequences get real, everything ends well (or not?) and on a light note.

There is no doubt that tremendous efforts have been put together to produce a wonderful project and it is evident in all its aspects, the actions in each scene are executed well. Every scene strikes the chord that it should, evoking appropriate reactions in the audience, like the funny situations evoking enough laughter, especially a hospital scene where Maduka is caught in between his two birthing wives, which I consider as the height of comedy in the film. There is also a good representation of contemporary Nigerian culture, all nuances are properly depicted, like the dynamics in a mixed ethnic polygamous family, the relationship between children and parents, etc.

Battle on Buka street is a solid example of what good scripting looks like. The way the story progresses is impeccable. Exploring the concept of a rivalry that exists across three generations is one thing, but doing it well is very applaudable.

While every scene was enjoyable, a small number of them felt dragged. An example is when Awele and Yejide went seeking spiritual help. The events could have played out a lot faster. There were also moments in the film when the lighting felt slightly off. The actors facial features were sometimes not fully visible and looked like a part was darker than the rest.

Cleopatra final verdict: Indeed good and entertaining.

Date of release: 16th of December 2022

Cast: Funke Akindele, Tina Mba, Nkem Owoh, Mercy Johnson, Sola Sobowale, Mike Afolarin
