The popular World Music Village curated by the charity Arms Around the Child at Victorious Festival is serving up a real treat this year. Get ready for a feast of contemporary, vibrant and exciting acts in what might just be the biggest lineup to date. The major coup of this year’s lineup is Jazztronica duo Blue Lab Beats, fresh from clinching their 1st Grammy! The team have been chasing them for years, and finally BLB will bring their tropical mix of Jazz, Hip-Hop, R&B & Afrobeat to the WMV on Saturday Evening. Saturday also sees Kongo Dia Ntotila’s fusion of African roots-inspired beats, Faith I Branko’s Balkan Gypsy music, and the bohemian singer-songwriter Neon Hitch performs her edgy Electro-Pop sounds. Local NuFunk & Disco diva Tash Hills will keep the party going with her catchy melodies and awesome band.

Sunday is an explosion of sounds and styles from across the globe. Crowd favorite and chart-topping sensation Natty returns to the WMV with his Reggae roots band, socially conscious lyrics and Soulful summer vibes. He will be joined on Sunday’s billing by Electric Jalaba, the Electronic Psychedelic project from Simo Lagnawi, performing their intoxicating mix of Moroccan Gnawa, infectious grooves and inexhaustible energy. Afrocluster have joined the bill playing hip hop, and afrobeat funk styles. Also on Sunday, catch local Indie Psych favourites Barbudo, playing their delectable blend of Pop, Psychedelia, Funk & Disco. Brazilian extrovert Tuto Marcondes will bring his fun fueled show of International hits and original music in a Brazilian style. And closing out the weekend is Indian Man, resident DJ at WOMAD, his sets delve into the finest of Indian Electronica and unique musical inspirations from around the world. The World Music Village has also partnered with sponsors BIMM and will present some of the budding and fresh young talent coming out of the school. Look out for the Fifi Robo, Jarki Moon, Jinju Uncia and Martha Eve amongst others. The World Music Village’s alternative hot spot The People’s Lounge has a number of musical gifts lined up for the weekend. TPL is a Cultural Collective of Artists, Musicians, Poets & DJs that celebrates Portsmouth's diverse local talent. Friday in The People’s Lounge hosts an exciting billing of fresh young bands and artists. Zed, the Dreamer, Nayana, Trezzor, and Megan Linford all bring their interesting contemporary sounds from Neo-Soul to HipHop, Folk to R&B. In the evening check out some of Portsmouth’s finest upcoming talent from the Hip-Hop, R&B, Rap and Afrobeats scenes as Winter Road Studios, Portsmouth Radar & Word of Mouth prepare to take over the Lounge on a special night for Portsmouth’s bubbling Urban Music Movement.

Saturday is one for the Funk, Soul and dance floor divas, hosting emerging bands as well as some People’s Lounge veterans. Pompey’s hot property Ivy Eye make their Victorious debut bringing their feel-good Disco sound. Bradley Jago’s soulful vocals and poetic lyrics will mesmerize, and DIY Electronic Experimental outfit AtticOMatic will be sure to put on a show. On Sunday TPL takes a more mellow turn with some highquality Jazz, Funk, and African performances, a day to tune in, listen, groove and be transported. Fresh from their sold-out shows at Ronnie Scots, London based Jazz funkateers Mulvey’s Medicine bring their grooves to the Lounge. Pompey sax legend Rich Muscat will perform his new Spiritual Jazz inspired solo album ‘Karmic Limitations’, and drummer and producer Creature, a prominent figure on the London Jazz scene, will play his enigmatic brand of Jazz, Breakbeat, and Hip-Hop. Elsewhere, The Groove Surgeons will get you moving with their renditions of some classic Jazz Funk numbers and Meet my Ancestors will bring their incredible sounds of traditional Zimbabwean music. UNMADE Radio will cap of the weekend with a special Tropical Disco set. Curated by Arms Around the Child, the World Music Village aims to bring together the eclectic array of Portsmouth’s movements, sounds and people to create a festive fusion of art, beauty and love that represents the global nature of our city. It is a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity you won’t want to miss!
