Message from Mike

I don’t know about you, but this summer has really flown by for me. We have had so many memorable events and as summer comes to an end, we look forward to continuing to make memories with all of you as we gear up for our First Annual Sizzling Summer Concert on August 4th and our Labor Day festivities. We are preparing to launch our new Member Portal, and I feel all of you will be very pleased with this exciting new website. The Member Portal will include many exciting features such as: a member directory, calendar of events, special member news & announcements and a photo gallery. Stay tuned for an official launch date. The restoration of our Osprey South Course greens is coming along very well and right on schedule. When the project is completed in September, all Innisbrook golf courses will offer the same firm, consistent putting surface on 72 holes. Please be sure to review all of the exciting member exclusive events we have planned for you in this edition of the Pipeline, including events planned for 2019. Wishing you all a wonderful end to our summer season.

Managing Director

From the Desk of the Director of Golf: Valued Members,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer‌..and playing a lot of golf. As we discussed in the last edition of the Pipeline, the South Greens Project was approved and I’m happy to report the project is coming along nicely and continues to be on schedule for a September 28 reopening! Since removing the tarps back in June we have successfully sprigged all 18 Greens, along with 3 Practice Greens, with Tiff Eagle Bermuda. This is the same putting surface that our Guests and Members currently enjoy on the Copperhead, Island and North Golf Courses, giving us smooth and consistent putting surfaces on all Four of our Championship Courses. While June was spent prepping and planting the Greens with new turf to ensure its health for years to come, July has been spent growing, mowing and maintaining our new turf. In addition to fertilizing and top dressing, we are now mowing and rolling the Greens three times a week. As a precaution, due to the cloudy/rainy days we experienced in July, we have done some additional fungicide applications to ensure no diseases on our young turf. In additional to the new Greens on the South Course, we are also re-sodding all our Bunker Edges and other weak areas throughout the golf course, trimming back intrusive Brazilian Peppers and thinning trees to promote air flow and reduce shade around the Greens.

Should you have any questions regarding this project or have any other questions or concerns about anything Golf related please do not hesitate to call or email me at bbarnes@innisbrookresort.com. Thank you and I look forward to see you around the Club,

Bobby Barnes

“ From Within the Tee Box” By Director of Golf Instruction, Dawn Mercer Summer Golfing equals MORE SUN EXPOSURE! Long term sun exposure without proper protection causes more trips to the dermatologist, as well as long term effects like skin cancer. The use of sunscreen is a benefit when used properly i.e. applied to all exposed skin, it doesn’t wash or rub off and continuous application throughout the day. A great addition and/or alternative to using sunscreen is wearing sun protective golf apparel. We offer many vendors with UPF material in our golf shops. These are sample tags of what to look for:

WHAT UPF RATINGS MEAN?

UPF is the rating system used for apparel. It’s similar to SPF (Sun Protection Factor), the rating system used for sunscreen products. SPF pertains only to a sunscreen's effectiveness against UVB rays, considered to be the more damaging type of light. UPF gauges a fabric's effectiveness against both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) light. When you shop, things are relatively simple: Look for a higher UPF rating number in order to get better sun protection. UPF Rating 15, 20 25, 30, 35 40, 45, 50, 50+

Protection Category GOOD VERY GOOD EXCELLENT

Effective UV Transmission (%) 6.7-4.2 4.1-2.6 LESS THAN 2.5

A UPF rating of 25 indicates the fabric of a garment will allow 1/25th (roughly 4 percent) of available UV radiation to pass through it. A garment rated UPF 50 permits only 1/50th (roughly 2 percent) UV transmission. Any fabric that allows less than 2 percent UV transmission is labeled UPF 50+. Regular clothing has levels of protection but varies based of how much light passes through the weave of fibers. For instance, a cotton t-shirt is approximately a rating of UPF 5 and even less when wet. If you wear cotton or cotton blends, it’s recommended to wash a few times to shrink fibers which will allow less light UV radiation through. If you wear elastic garments like leggings, wear the proper size…the more the material is stretched the more light passes through. Most UPF clothing will make you feel cooler than direct sunlight to your skin.

pipeline | 8

For any questions or to purchase UPF rated clothing contact rastle@innisbrookresort.com. To score lower which can reduce the time you’re in the sun, contact dmercer@innisbrookresort.com.

Tennis at Innisbrook Dear Valued Member,

It is hard to believe that summer is slowly coming to an end. The summer camp programs for juniors and adults have been a huge success. The number of players participating this summer has exceeded the last few summers put together. I would like to thank everyone for your support and to the tennis staff for a job well done! As we move into the fall months our junior after school program will begin as well as our adult teams/leagues and clinics. We have added a few more adult teams to our schedule this fall and have plenty of room if anyone would like to join a team. Please contact the tennis center if you are interested in playing. Be sure to reserve your court ahead of time when playing this fall due to a busy court schedule. The tennis staff looks forward to seeing you all on the courts!

Thanks,

TIP OF THE MONTH Play the ball

When you are up at the net in singles or doubles, think about going to the ball instead of the ball coming to you. Most players mentally wait for the ball to come to them. You have heard the axiom, "Play the ball." What this means is, you must be mentally prepared to go after the ball! You are on the court and your opponent has just fired the ball back to you. If you have time to move to the ball... go after it! Stop standing around waiting for the ball to arrive at your doorstep. If the ball is coming too fast and you are unable to go after it, being mentally prepared will still give you an advantage when the ball reaches you. The sooner you can get to the ball, the faster the ball will go back to your opponent. This is a key principle in winning tennis. Why? If the ball goes back to your opponent faster you will give your opponent less time to hit the shot, which could produce a weaker return or even an outright error. This is what is meant when tennis commentators talk about "taking away time on your opponent."

p i p e l i n e | 18

The only way you can take away time on your opponent is to stop playing mentally passive tennis. You must be mentally active and consistently concentrate on going after the ball. If you are not conditioned to think in this fashion, spend time practicing the correct thought-process. When you are up at the net remind yourself every three or four shots to go after the ball. Do this until playing the ball becomes a habit, or else you will slouch right back into mentally passive tennis. With a little concentration and a little practice you can have a huge advantage over your opponents by learning to play the ball. Changing one little thought will change your whole game. A thought can make or break you!

Add diced apples to a hot pan and add sugar directly after. Cook over medium heat until sugar starts to brown. Add spices and butter and cook until thick. Allow mixture to cool and spoon into eggroll wrappers. To roll, place the wrapper so it looks like a diamond rather than spoon across from corner to corner and fold corners into the middle, and pull the bottom over the filling and tuck it in. Finishing rolling so the eggroll stays tight and seal off the top corner with a little water. Fry in 325 degree oil.

CARAMEL SAUCE 1 cup sugar

1 tbls butter

Âź cup heavy cream

Add sugar to a pan and cook over medium high heat until sugar starts to turn amber. Swirl the pan rather than stir it or the sugar could crystalize.
