PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

The Geology concentration is the most rigorous degree path in the Geological Sciences department and is designed primarily for students wishing to pursue MS and PhD degrees in Geosciences after graduation. The comprehensive geology curriculum, combined with support courses in allied STEM fields, ensures the required coursework for graduate programs while preparing graduates for any career in geosciences.

WORK PROSPECTS

The Geology concentration is designed to help students develop skills for careers in hydrogeology, coastal zone management, watershed management, environmental consulting, geologic mapping, mineral exploration, site assessment, oceanography, geophysics, volcanology, and/or tectonics.

Geology BS Degree Geological Sciences Minor

Are you fascinated by geology but not committed to changing your major?

Consider declaring a Geological Sciences minor. The Geological Sciences minor provides inquiry-based training for any student who has an interest in how the Earth works. This minor is very relevant for students pursuing careers in the sustainability or environmental and conservation fields, as well as for those interested in acquiring an expertise in the geological sciences.

Oceanography Minor QUESTIONS?

Interested in the marine aspect of geology? Consider declaring an Oceanography Minor. This minor provides a scientific background in studying Earth’s oceans and takes advantage of Salem State’s coastal location. The training provided is especially important for students interested in the oceans or planning to have a career incorporating marine resources. This minor is open to all students and is an excellent complement to a major in biology, chemistry, or geography.
