Skills for Life History provides a dynamic and rigorous course of study and produces global citizens with impeccable research, writing, oral communication, and data analysis skills. Phi Alpha Theta Honors Society The Salem State History Department has a vibrant chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta honors society. Students who are interested in developing their scholarship can present their research at regional and national conferences. Salem State recently hosted a regional conference and has taken students to New Orleans, Orlando, and Santa Fe.


Travel Institutes Students can explore international history and earn credits through one of our study and travel seminars. These trips take place during spring and summer breaks and allow students to interact with the people, culture, food, architecture, museums, and living history of other nations. Past trips have focused on London, Cuba, Germany, Austria, Poland, France, Bosnia–​Herzegovina, and Rwanda.
