REFUND POLICY

COURSE CANCELLATIONS

Effective fall 2018, refunds for graduate and undergraduate classes taken through the School of Graduate and the School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies will be based on the following schedule and are driven by the session in which the class is offered. Classes dropped during the add/drop period for the session in which the class is scheduled will result in a full refund. Classes dropped after the add/drop period will be refunded according to the schedule below:

In the case of special format classes, it may be cancelled up to one week before the first-class meeting. MATION REGISTRATION AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION

FINANCIAL AID Financial aid is meant to supplement, not remove a student’s financial obligation to their education. Students should anticipate financing educational costs through a combination of income, savings, borrowing, and financial aid. To receive financial aid you must be a matriculated (fully admitted, degree-seeking) student and have a 2018-2019 FAFSA on file with Salem State University; all financial aid related items on your To-Do list (found on your Student Navigator) must be complete to be reviewed for aid. Additionally, students applying for financial aid must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, not be in default or overpayment on any Federal or State aid, and must follow selective service registration requirements. Students completing a financial aid file with us will be reviewed to determine eligibility for federal, state and institutional aid; students must be enrolled in at least six credits to be eligible to receive most financial aid offered, though some exceptions may apply. Eligibility is determined on a combination of financial need, academic merit, timeliness in filing, and number of credits a student is enrolled in. • The priority deadline to file each year is February 15. Late applications are accepted; however, funding may be limited. • Students entering in January should apply before November 1. • Students must reapply each year for financial aid beginning in October. Visit our website for more information.

Course Completion and Return of Funds Financial aid funds are earned based upon a student’s days of attendance. Students not completing their courses will be subjected to the Return of Title IV policy resulting in loss or reduction of aid for the term. If you change your enrollment, or you do not attend, or do not complete a registered course, then your aid will be adjusted resulting in a balance owed to the university. Aid revisions continue to take place even AFTER the session ends and unpaid balances will result in a financial hold. Financial holds can prevent students from registering, accessing grades, requesting transcripts, etc.

Satisfactory Academic Progress and Academic Probation To maintain eligibility for financial assistance, students must be making satisfactory academic progress (SAP) towards their degree. Salem State University’s Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy states a student must meet a minimum qualitative standard of a 2.0 CUM GPA and minimum of 66.6 percent CUM completion of all attempted credits to remain in good standing for financial aid. Failure to meet these requirements will result in loss of financial aid eligibility. Students may appeal this loss of eligibility only once in their academic career at Salem State University. Please note filing an appeal does not guarantee a student’s aid will be reinstate. Please see the student catalog and our website for more details regarding satisfactory academic progress and academic probation policies, including details of the financial aid 150 percent rule (the non-appealable maximum number of credits a student can attempt/complete at Salem State, before losing all remaining financial aid eligibility is 180 credits total).

Visit catalog.salemstate.edu for courses descriptions and additional information.
