WHO IS CONSIDERED AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT?

Salem State defines an international student as a non-U.S. citizen or nonU.S. permanent resident green card holder. International students usually need an F-1 student visa or J-1 exchange visitor visa to study in the U.S.

APPLICANT TYPES

A first-year applicant has never been enrolled in any college or university, international or domestic. A transfer applicant has been previously enrolled in any college or university, international or domestic.

A graduate applicant has earned a bachelor’s degree from a college or university, international or domestic, and is advancing their studies with an advanced degree.

FIRST-YEAR BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (BSN)

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The BSN is a full-time, day-only program designed for first-time bachelor’s degree students.

Attended High School or Secondary School Outside the U.S.

• Submit a completed online application at salemstate.edu/apply

• Pay the $50 application fee (U.S. dollars; non-refundable)

• Official high school/secondary school record, leaving certificate and/or graduation examination results or their official copies must be in English or professionally translated. The translation must include a list of courses completed, grading scale and the grades received.

• English proficiency is required; learn more at salemstate.edu/FYIA

Transfer Students

TRANSFER BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (BSN)

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The transfer BSN is a full-time, day-only program designed for first-time bachelor’s degree transfer students.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Submit a completed application at salemstate.edu/apply

• Pay the $50 application fee (U.S. dollars; non-refundable)

• Submit official college transcript(s) from every college attended, an official final high school transcript (or high school equivalent), and official TEAS exam scores.

TRANSFER ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

• 12 credits of college-level work completed with a minimum GPA of 3.0

• Two required science courses completed with a minimum C grade:

o BIO105 Biological Systems (with lab)

o CHE117 General Organic & Biological Chemistry (with lab)

o BIO200 Anatomy & Physiology I (with lab)

o BIO201 Anatomy & Physiology II (with lab)

o BIO304 Microbiology (with lab)

• The TEAS exam version 7.0 is required. Applicants must score proficient (minimum 58.7%) in all four subjects: English, Math, Reading, Science. Students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree do not need to submit the TEAS exam.

• Official final high school transcript (or high school equivalent) documenting graduation. Students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree do not need to submit high school documentation.

• Courses that are comparable to Salem State courses generally transfer.

• Transfer credit is based on factors including, but not limited to, accreditation, comparability of courses, faculty credentials, and other requirements.

• Generally, a C- is the minimum grade required to transfer a course.

• A total of 75 credits may be transferred from two-year institutions.

• Nursing courses do not transfer from other institutions.

• Advanced Placement (AP) credit cannot count towards admissions prerequisites.

• The TEAS exam version 7.0 is required. Applicants must score proficient (minimum 58.7%) in all four categories: English, Math, Reading, Science.

• Applicants must take the ATI TEAS exam at Salem State in the School of Nursing Testing Center. Applicants who have previously taken the TEAS version 7.0 may submit their exam scores obtained directly from ATI Testing.

• Applicants may take the exam a total of two times in the academic year prior to submitting their application.

• The TEAS exam is only valid for two years prior to the application deadline.

Graduate Students

GRADUATE INTERNATIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• Submit a completed online application at salemstate.edu/apply

• Pay the $50 application fee (U.S. dollars; non-refundable)

• If your degree was completed outside of the U.S., you must submit a transcript evaluation, even if your transcript is in English. Please request a detailed, course-by-course evaluation showing courses, grades, academic degrees, and grade point average.*

• English proficiency is required; learn more at salemstate.edu/IGA

International Transcripts

A n approved agency must validate verification for any non-U.S.-based education (secondary and college level).

Five approved agencies include the Center for Educational Documentation, Educational Credential Evaluators, North American Educational Group, SpanTran, or World Education Services.

*All documents must be official. Official transcripts are certified copies of official documents from each secondary school, college, university, or technical school attended. Records must include courses completed, grades or marks earned, and certificates or degrees awarded. Include a certified English translation of all documents not written in English.
