Elvis Presley
1935 - 1977
The King of rock ‘n’ Elvis Presley passed away in 1977. He was 42 years old.
However, despite Presley’s untimely death, his legacy lives on. Elvis is credited with helping to develop rock ‘n’ roll from rockabilly in the United States, while embracing elements of soul, blues, and country. He is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century.
Elvis Presley’s music career began in 1954, when he made a recording at Sun Records with record producer Sam Phillips. At the time, Phillips was determined to bring the sound of African/ American music to a wider audience, and knew he could achieve this through Presley.
However, Presley under the guidance of his manager Colonel Tom Parker, released his first single “Heartbreak Hotel’’ with recording juggernaut RCA in 1956. The single became a number-one hit in the United States. Within a year, RCA would sell over ten million Presley singles worldwide. This strategy was followed with numerous television appearances and several more chart-topping records. That same year Elvis, following the advice of his manager Colonel Tom Parker made his film debut in “Love Me Tender.’’
He subsequently achieved enormous success as an actor and recording artist and became the most commercially successful and influential artist in music history. He remains the best-selling solo music artist of all time with over 500 million record sales.
In 2018, President Donald Trump awarded Presley the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.
THE “CURSE’’ OF THE ELVIS PRESLEY DYNASTY...
The recent death of Elvis Presley’s only child Lisa-Marie has prompted many fans to speculate that the Presley family is cursed with bad luck. Fans are now allegedly comparing the Presley’s to the tragic political Kennedy dynasty.
Consequently, Lisa-Marie’s premature passing has continued to add fuel to this theory. Fans have always speculated that the curse initially started with the tragic death at birth of Elvis’s identical twin brother Jesse in 1935.
23 years later, Elvis Presley’s mother Gladys unexpectedly passed away in 1958 of a suspected cardiac arrest. However, fans believe she drank herself to an early grave. She was 46 years old.
In 1977 fans around the globe were left in total disbelief when it was announced that the undisputed King of Rock ‘n’ Roll Elvis Presley had died of a suspected cardiac arrest. He was 42 years old. However, subsequent autopsy findings indicated that the cause of death was “cardiac arrhythmia.’’
The King’s death resulted in an outpouring of emotion from heartbroken fans around the globe and left an unrepairable void in the music industry.
In 1979, just 2 years after the death of Elvis, Vernon Presley, father of Elvis also died of cardiac arrest. He was 63 years old.
Unfortunately the alleged curse delivered another blow to the family when Benjamin Keough, son of Lisa-Marie and grandson of Elvis, tragically ended his life by suicide in 2020. He was 27 years old. The tragedy devastated the family and completely destroyed his griefstricken mother Lisa-Marie.
After Benjamin’s death, Lisa-Marie spoke publicly about her grief resulting from Benjamin’s death.
