Sharks Community Trust launches Scrumberz!

Our brand new and exciting numeracy programme Scrumberz launched in May with a session for 16 lucky children at Broadbottom Primary School. The six-week programme uses rugby to cover key skills such as addition, subtraction, graphs and shapes alongside topics such as budgeting

using examples from, among other things, the Sharks club shop! The programme is being taught to year two pupils – and it’s so far, so good for both Scrumberz and the man in charge, Community Coach Rick Phillips. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

Crewe and Nantwich Rugby Club quids in thanks to the hottest Curry in town England and Sharks stars Tom and Ben Curry dropped in to Crewe and Nantwich RUFC to see how the club that helped propel them to international stardom is spending £10,000 handed over through the groundbreaking ‘100 Club’ initiative launched by Sharks to support grassroots rugby.

Balls to That wows Barclays Craig Monaghan and Jack Leech took their groundbreaking Balls to That mental health programme to Barclays Bank’s Gadbrook Park site, in Northwich, this month. They ran a session for more than 90 team leaders, who left inspired to make changes to support the mental health of their staff.

At Crewe and Nantwich, the money has helped pay for a tailor-made coaching programme for its Mini & Junior (M&J) section, which has seen around 120 young players coached according to the Sharks philosophy. Community coach Jack Leech has led the project for Sharks. He said: “It’s great to see how the money they’ve received through the 100 Club is being put to good use and is really making an impact on the future of the club.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

It’s a Tru story! HITZ learner Jake was 17 when he dropped out of Trafford College. He joined the HITZ programme and very quickly went from strength to strength, developing his skills and his confidence. Now he has secured a job at Trafford Centre restaurant Tru Street. Jake said: “HITZ has changed my life and made me believe in my potential. I am now a fulltime employee and now I just want to keep on doing my best and progressing my career.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE

Callum is our Volunteer of the Month Our Volunteer of the Month this month is Callum O’Hely, who is a part of the Wythenshawe Advantage programme. Callum wants to be a youth worker and has been volunteering and doing work experience at the Wythenshawe Community Housing Group Youth Service. The youth service tells us that he has been very dedicated, hardworking and his relationship and rapport with the young people at the centre has been fantastic.
