Creative Academy students buzzing
There’s a real buzz about our Creative Academy programme in Liverpool at the moment, and that was definitely the case when a team of local bee keepers came to visit the students at The Tapestry!
A taste of Twickenham! It’s not every day you get the chance to experience a game at Twickenham, so you can imagine how excited some of the young people we work with (and our coaches!) were when they got to make the trip down to London to see the Premiership Rugby final!
More than 40 young people from Macclesfield Rugby Club U12s and Warrington Rugby Club U11s made the visit to the Home of England Rugby because of their fantastic achievements in the Land Rover Cup competition. The children went on the pitch before the big kick off and took part in a question and answer session with England legends Jason Robinson and Lewis Moody before watching the game with a crowd of around 75,000 people. Three learners from our HITZ Leigh centre were also rewarded for their fantastic behaviour and represented Sale Sharks as HITZ ambassadors. They
enjoyed a pitch-side photo and teambuilding activities with the British Royal Navy, which included designing vehicles and building communication towers. And ten children from Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Sale were chosen to take part in a tag rugby demonstration on the hallowed turf during half time of the game. They were one of twenty schools working with us as part of the Aviva Tackling Numbers programme this academic year. Sharks Community Coach Rick Phillips, said: “The opportunity for these young players to be on the pitch at Twickenham and for some of them to meet players who have won the World Cup was really special. All of the young people really embraced the day and the atmosphere and went on to enjoy the final too.”

The session was all about helping them understand more about bees, the different types you can find in this country and the important role they play for the environment. Along with some fantastic feedback from the bee keepers, our students have also been offered the chance to go and see a full hive at Blackburne House Group – a special bee centre in Liverpool – and will be allowed to wear full beekeeping equipment and sample different types of honey from around the region. Advantage students take on garden makeover A team of ten green-fingered students involved in our Advantage Little Hulton Project have been keeping busy with a special garden makeover project, supported by the Royal Horticulture Society (RHS). The RHS team visited the Big Local building at Little Hulton to help transform its outdoor space and teach the students more about gardening, whilst also talking about the new garden they’re building in Worsley and discussing potential apprenticeships and opportunities to get involved.. All the students spent time cleaning up the back yard, cleaning out old plants and weeds and preparing the space for repotting. The students will now be in charge of the back yard and take on full responsibility for keeping the garden fresh and healthy. Sharks Community Trust Coach, Wade Dutton, said: “It’s great to see the students being given a task and the responsibility to keep something alive and thriving. The achievements of the group shone through and there was a great sense of pride within the team.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
