GUIDE We know you are all looking forward to getting back to work but you may also be feeling a little anxious about the prospect.

In preparation for re-opening we’ve been working hard to make sure you have everything you need to help you and your clients feel safe when it’s time to re-open. Here are some ideas and recommended products to help you as you begin to think about reopening your business:

THINGS TO CONSIDER • Remove magazines and any sweets from your reception area

• Are your stylist/barber chairs 2m apart?

• Think about how you can avoid any congestion in the waiting areas

• Remove any shared back bar styling products and replace with products for each station. Pay close attention to products that come in jar-like containers or require a stylist to place hands in the container. Ask your stylists to sanitise hands prior to using these types of products or use disposable applicators after each use

• Schedule disinfecting the reception desk, door handles, phones and writing implements every 1-2 hours • No handshakes. No hugs. For now.

• Ask clients to wash/sanitise their hands as soon as they enter the salon/barbershop • Provide Hand Sanitiser at the reception desk and at each stylist/ barber station • Are you able to keep interior and exterior doors open to avoid having clients and staff touch door handles?

• Ensure you properly sanitise tools between clients • For payment request credit cards, ideally clients use contactless or applications such as Apple pay and if a client does use the touch pad, disinfect and wipe it down after each use.

GETTING YOUR SALON READY • Clean and disinfect all surfaces in your salon or barbershop: counter-tops, light switches, handles, keyboards, credit card machines, rolling carts, drawer handles, stations, any containers used for storage, chairs etc.

• Clean and disinfect all electrical tools: clippers, trimmers, hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons, and scissors.

• Clean and disinfect shampoo & styling product bottles.

MOVING FORWARD! EVERY CLIENT, EVERY DAY! • Clean, disinfected brushes, combs, hair clips, and capes must be available for every client. Make sure your salon has enough of these supplies for every client or enough time in between clients to properly disinfect these items.

• Disinfect arm rests on chairs if made of non-porous materials after every client.

• Disinfect electrical appliances after every service and allow for the proper disinfection time according to the label.

• Clean and disinfect shampoo & styling bottles after every service and allow for the proper disinfection time according to the label.

DISINFECTION REMINDERS FROM BARBICIDE • Disinfectants must be EPAregistered and labelled as bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal.

• Disinfection will work on a clean item, so cleaning before disinfecting is the first step.

Methods to clean: soap & water, chemical cleaners or cleaning wipes.

• Contact time on the label MUST be observed for disinfectants to work.

Contact time refers to how long the surface must stay visibly wet with the disinfectant to destroy all pathogens listed on the label.

• Disinfectant for immersion must be made fresh daily and replaced if it becomes contaminated sooner.

• Disinfection is for hard, non-porous surfaces (glass, metal, plastic or synthetic materials).

• Porous/soft surfaces cannot be disinfected but can be cleaned. This could include but not limited to: chairs covered in porous material, towels, cloth and your hands & body.
