AAT
Designed for students up to the age of 25 who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities. You will learn and develop the skills and vocational knowledge to give you the confidence to effectively manage your life at home, at work and in the local community. See p80.
A globally recognised financial qualification, ideal if you would like to work in the finance industry or become a Chartered Accountant.
Supported Internship Designed for students up to the age of 25 with learning difficulties and/or disabilities; the Supported Internship will make your first steps into employment and learning new skills less daunting. See p82. Traineeship A course with work experience designed to develop the skills necessary for you to be ready for work or an Apprenticeship. See p85. Foundation Learning A one-year programme that can help you progress on to a Level 2 BTEC Diploma or Apprenticeship. BTECs A vocational qualification developed with employers and Higher Education experts. They are designed to give you the skills needed to progress on to Higher Education or employment. 8
OCR Providing accreditation for administration and secretarial courses, this course is ideal if you plan to pursue a career in an office environment as a Secretary, Legal Secretary or Personal Assistant. A-Levels An academically-based programme, which is taught over two years and examined at the end of the course. Stand-alone AS subjects may be offered in some subjects, up-to-date information regarding these courses is published on our website. Apprenticeship Combines practical training in a job whilst studying a qualification at college. See p86-99. Nearly 1,000 students from across the region attend our dedicated Sixth-Form centre. We offer the widest choice of A-Levels in south Essex, many of which are not offered anywhere else locally, delivered by experienced and highly-skilled subject specialist staff. You can also take A-Levels alongside a range of A-Level equivalent courses - this can be discussed in more detail at interview. We don’t restrict your choice of subjects to certain pathways*, so you have the opportunity to choose a specialist package of A-Levels that will see you develop the technical and communication skills needed to succeed in Higher Education or employment.

This course is the perfect Take in place starting point if you of one would like to pursue a A-Level career in accounting, and also for those wishing to work as a Bookkeeper. You will learn basic bookkeeping skills including double entry, how to categorise and analyse costs, how to use Sage software and the fundamental skills needed to work in accounting and finance. You will study the Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting in Year One and the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Year Two.
A-Level Archaeology is not currently offered by any other college or Sixth-Form in south Essex, making it a Seevic exclusive! You will explore the practice of religion and ritual across the Ancient World and will be introduced to the basic skills and methods of archaeological techniques.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will develop strong practical skills, though the underlying theory that is taught and will complete five computerbased assessments throughout each year, after the teaching of each unit has been completed.
What can I do next? You will gain the practical skills that employers value and will be well equipped to either find employment as a Bookkeeper or an Accounts Trainee. You could also continue your studies at the college by studying AAT Level 4 (px). Both the Level 3 and 4 qualifications provide access to a range of accounting and finance related university degrees or further accounting studies including ACCA and CIMA qualifications.

Working in partnership with Southend Museums and the Coalhouse Fort Project, there will be exciting opportunities for you to visit museums to conduct research, archaeological find handling and guided fieldwalking excursions where you will work alongside local community historical groups. Volunteering opportunities for working on current archaeological sites will also be available.
How will I be taught and assessed? Students will be guided through an interesting study programme which will include a mix of targeted reading, class discussion, films, group activities and practical demonstrations by experts in archaeology. You will be assessed through written exams and coursework.
What can I do next? Archaeology is accepted as an academic A-Level by all Russell Group universities. It provides progression to a range of degree courses, including Ancient History, Archaeology, Archaeological Sciences and Classics.

You will enhance your PROGRESS TO AN HE knowledge about the COURSE - SEE fundamental visual P102-103 elements of representational art, exploring them through drawing, printmaking and painting. You will also develop ideas digitally and in three dimensions.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will work on creative projects that promote personal interpretation and the development of individual style. Contextual research is a significant requirement, and you will be taught how to analyse artwork using technical terms. You will be assessed through coursework and externally set tests.
What can I do next? You could continue to a career in any of the following areas: animation, architecture, art therapy, fine art (as a Painter, Sculptor, Printmaker or Multimedia Artist), illustration, interior design and theatre design. You could also continue your studies at university or at Seevic College, studying our Art & Design Foundation Diploma or HND.

Check out You will learn about a course wide range of biological our video on concepts and YouTube! techniques, including health and diseases, the theory of DNA replication, biochemistry of photosynthesis and respiration.
Progress A-Level Business will see to our you develop the Business knowledge and skills you HND – See p104 need to take part in the world of business. You will analyse contemporary business issues like digital technology, business ethics and globalisation.
You will also explore how biology contributes to the success of the economy and society. Topics covered alongside the core subject criteria include Developmental Biology, the Musculoskeletal System, and Learning and Habituation.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will be assessed by three exams lasting two hours each, which make up 100% of your final A-Level grade. You will also be assessed on your practical skills, techniques and competency by completing a number of core practical sessions throughout the two years.
You will cover every aspect of business behaviour, including Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Operations Management, Business Decision Making and Business Strategy.
How will I be taught and assessed? The course is classroom based, although there is the opportunity to attend revision conferences and visit a variety of businesses. You will be assessed through exams (three papers, lasting one and a half hours each).
What could I do next?
When you take this course alongside other science-based subjects, you can go on to study a range of degrees such as Biomedicine, Zoology, Marine Biology, Veterinary Science, Medicine and Dentistry.
You could progress to the HND Business course at Seevic, or to university to study subjects like Business, Management, Marketing, Finance, Law and Economics. You could also find employment in the banking and finance sectors, or consider becoming your own boss by starting your own company.

A-Level Chemistry uses real life contexts to introduce concepts. Specific core practical tasks, that link directly to your specification topics, give you the opportunity to develop your investigative skills and consolidate your learning.

Explore the roots of the modern world by studying the history and literature of Ancient Greece and Rome. These histories and epic stories continue to influence writers, artists and film-makers, as well as political and even military thought in the modern world today. You will visit the British Museum to see examples of artefacts from Greece and Rome, and go to the theatre to witness performances of Greek Tragedy whenever possible. You may also take a trip to Rome to contextualise your study of Emperors Tiberius and Claudius.
You will learn through a range of classroombased theory, demonstrations and practical work, and be assessed by three written exams. You will also be required to complete 12 practical tasks throughout the course, and you may be questioned on the outcome of these in your exams.

Chemistry is an excellent basis for progression to a Science degree programme. It provides a wide range of career opportunities, including Medical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacology and Research. There are also an increasing number of higher level apprenticeship opportunities in sectors such as Chemical Engineering and Industry.
You could continue to study a degree at university, studying Classical Civilisation or another degree. It is looked upon favourably by many universities, including the University of Cambridge. Potential careers include Teaching, Journalism, Publishing, Heritage or Law.

Computing A-Level
This isn’t about learning to use tools, or simply training in a programming language; it’s about computational thinking – a style of reasoning used by both humans and machines. You will study the technical aspects of hardware and networking, alongside concepts of programming. There’s an emphasis on problem solving, application of knowledge and skills development. You will use a combination of VB.NET, C++ and ASP, over the two years of this course.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will use what you learn to design solutions to real-world issues. You will be assessed through online exams, coursework and internal assessments.
What can I do next? If you want to progress to a degree in Computer Science, or you just want the best possible start for your career as a Programmer, then Computing is ideal. It can also be studied alongside ICT, as each course focuses on very different aspects of the subject.

A-Level Dance is the ideal subject choice if you have a strong practical background in dance and are eager to tackle the more theoretical aspects of the subject. You will create imaginative performances, interpret dance ideas through solo or group work, and develop your expressive skills.
You will explore a wide PROGRESS TO AN HE range of traditional and COURSE - SEE contemporary design P102-103 techniques, from scale drawing to computeraided design. You will also look at a number of specialist areas in detail, including interior design, set design, product design, architecture and environmental design. 3D Design is about living in the modern world, understanding materials and how they influence design.
During the course, you will have the opportunity to watch live work (in performance) at the world’s number one venue dedicated to international dance, Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will take practical dance technique classes and have workshop-based choreography sessions – where you can experiment, develop and evaluate your own work. Theory-based lectures will focus on anatomy and physiology, the study of choreographic forms and dance analysis. You will be examined through group choreography projects and a solo performance, based on the work of a chosen practitioner, as well as a written paper exams.
How will I be taught and assessed? Practical work will be completed both on location and in the Art Studio. You will be assessed through exams and ongoing in-class assessment. You will be assessed through coursework and externally set tests.
What can I do next? You could progress to the Foundation Diploma or HND in Art & Design at Seevic College or a range of designrelated degrees at university. You could find work in areas such as architectural design, product design or set design.

You will devise, rehearse and perform your own work in created and scripted productions to different audiences; building an understanding of the different elements of theatre. You will cover the following essential areas: evaluating live productions seen during the course, the analysis of set texts, the study of an influential theatre practitioner, participation in group performances as well as devising theatre.

The Extended Project Taken in Qualification (EPQ) is an addition opportunity for you to to A-Levels develop independent research skills, presentation and essay writing skills. Geography is a hugely diverse and dynamic subject. You will explore a wide range of current environmental and political issues occurring around the world, including natural hazards, climate change, migration, development and globalisation.

This course provides you with an overview of criminal law and negligence principles, as well as the legal skills required for progression to a Law degree or to enter employment.
This course is ideal if you Take are interested in how our in place democratic law-making of one A-Level system and English legal system works. You will learn about dispute solving in the legal system, understanding law making, aspects of legal liability, unlawful homicide and police powers, contract law and aspects of the law of tort.
Throughout the course, you will learn to develop the ability to memorise large amounts of information including definitions and legal terms, statute and case names, facts and principles. You will develop legal skills, including evaluative essay writing and application of the law through problem-solving.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will be taught using a variety of methods, including mini-lectures, PowerPoint presentations, film clips, online resources, discussions, case studies and individual and group activities. How will I be taught and assessed? You will concentrate on classroom learning with practical application. You will be assessed through exams only; there is no coursework. You will also be assessed on your practical skills, techniques and competency, by completing a number of core practical tests throughout the two years.
What can I do next? Physics is a traditional A-Level subject and is identified as a key qualification by Russell Group universities. Physics is a solid choice if you are considering a career in Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Computing, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics or Environmental Science.

Psychology is the study of the mind and behaviour. It is an ideal subject choice if you have an interest in understanding human behaviour from a scientific perspective.
You will be introduced to the discipline of sociology and to its key concepts, theories and methods Sociologists use to understand the nature of contemporary societies and processes of social change. Through studying examples of sociological research, you will explore what it means to think sociologically about topics such as class, gender, crime, religion and the family.
You will learn about the formation of memories, the impact of childhood experience on behaviour and the causes and treatments of psychological disorders like depression and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. You will also develop an understanding of key theoretical concepts and approaches in psychology, building an appreciation for the methods Psychologists use when conducting research.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will learn about how Psychologists design research, analyse data and describe key theories; you will apply what you learn to a range of scenarios, to produce clear evaluation that incorporates a range of debates in psychology. You will be assessed through exams.
What can I do next? Psychology is a respected academic subject which combines well with a range of subjects, including arts and sciences. It is good for progression to Higher Education and is particularly valuable for any profession where an insight into human behaviour is beneficial.

If you plan to pursue a career in accounting or work as a Bookkeeper, then this course is your ideal starting point. You will learn basic bookkeeping skills including double entry, how to categorise and analyse costs, how to use Sage software and the basic skills needed to work in accounting and finance. You will also gain business communication, spreadsheet, payroll and study skills.
If you have strong literacy and numeracy Progress to our Level 4 AAT skills and can cope with Apprenticeship – see p90 learning at a fast pace, then our Fast Track course could be right for you. You will learn to prepare and record financial documentation, maintain and reconcile the cash book, maintain petty cash records, process business transactions and extract a trial balance.

You will be taught basic bookkeeping concepts, with an emphasis on the development of practical skills and its underlying theory. You will complete five computer-based assessments after the teaching of each unit has been completed.

Through the teaching of the underlying theory, you will develop strong practical skills beneficial for the sector. You will complete 10 computer-based assessments throughout the year, after the teaching of each unit has been completed.
What can I do next? Upon successful completion of this course, you will be well equipped to continue with your studies at Levels 3 and 4. If you would like a career 100% working with animals or SUCCESS in agriculture and the RATE IN environment, this could 2014/15 be the course for you. You will gain the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to assist with the care and movement of animals, as well as going on off-site visits to gain an understanding of farm animal health, including the health of horses.
Looking to pursue a career with animals? Then this course is ideal. You will investigate specific types of animals in further detail, including the nursing of animals and aspects of animal biology.
If you would like to study a Level 1 course but aren’t sure what you’d like to do in the future, you can try a variety of courses throughout the year whilst developing your English and Maths skills.

How will I be taught and assessed? You will be assessed through assignments, portfolios of authenticated photographs and written statements from your work experience at the farm. You will also have the chance to go on a residential weekend trip.
Alongside studying units including feeding, accommodation, health and welfare, you will also get to complete work experience in a relevant setting and visit a local farm.
This is a theory-based course with practical elements and assessments built into it. Designed to cover several aspects of the PROGRESS TO AN HE Art & Design process, COURSE - SEE this course will see your P102-103 learn more about the creative and practical side of the sector. How will I be taught and assessed? The majority of units are assessed through assignments. You will experience work-typical environments within the classroom, including a new outdoor play area that enables us to recreate realistic scenarios for you to learn from practically. Classroom time typically equates to three full days per week, whilst placement may be one or two days per week.
What can I do next? You could progress on to our Foundation Degree in Early Years, which is validated by the University of Hertfordshire. This course will allow you to practically develop both your hands-on skills and academic knowledge of the world of engineering. You will study things like mathematics, materials, design and drawing (including CAD). You will also build practical skills like machining techniques, welding, sheet metal work and fabrication.

It provides a solid academic background in mathematics and mechanical principles, materials, science and electronics, as well as practical skills to support the academic knowledge.
Additional extracurricular engineering activities will also give you the chance to show off your creativity.
How will I be taught and assessed? Teaching is a mixture of classroom-based theory and practical work, where you will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Each project will produce evidence for several units, with at least one project completed using 100% upcycled scrap materials. The majority of work will be assessed through coursework, alongside two online exams between January and March.
What can I do next?
The manufacturing pathway focuses on the challenges of modern global manufacturing industries and the development of skilled techniques of manufacturing and its related technologies. You will also study how businesses can meet the demands of its customers by the methods they use to inspect and test their goods and products prior to completion, to guarantee their levels of quality.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will be assessed through exams and coursework. Many of the coursework units are delivered using a project-based approach independently, in groups and, in some areas, in collaboration with a local engineering company.
You could progress to our Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Engineering, moving towards studying a degree in Engineering at university. If you learn better practically, you could begin an apprenticeship or find a job in a range of areas including a heavy metal fabrication environment, HGV mechanical engineering or construction.

If you’re looking for a career as a Sports Coach, PE Teacher, Sports Development Officer or any other career within the sports industry, then it is for you. A theoretical course with some practical elements, it will give you an insight into the many areas of sporting study. As a sports student with us, you will also have the opportunity to become a student athlete, combining your academic studies with full-time training in the Seevic Storm Sports Academy.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will be taught both in the classroom and in our practical facilities, in order to develop your knowledge and the way you apply this practically in sport. You will be assessed in a variety of ways through assignment work, presentations, exams and formal observation. You will also complete some valuable work experience as part of the course.
What can I do next? You could progress to a number of degrees at university including Teaching, Sport & Exercise Science, and Sports Coaching. This course will also allow you to move directly into employment, in areas like teaching, sports coaching and the health and fitness industry.

Developing your knowledge and understanding of the industry and the different jobs involved in it, this course will focus on the planning and organisation of holidays.
How will I be taught and assessed? You will have a mix of internal and external assessments, including formal written assessments, role-plays, practical work, group work, direct observation and tests.
What can I do next? When you finish this course, you will have the opportunity to progress to our Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Travel & Tourism. If you would rather move into employment then there are apprenticeships available in the industry, or you could progress directly on to areas such as travel agents, event management, working overseas or hospitality.

How will I be taught and assessed? You will learn theoretical and practical tourism concepts and principles, but within a vocational setting and environment. There will be coursework projects where you will be expected to work individually or within a team, and all units are assessed by a range of projects including practical investigations, presentations, case studies and teambased tasks. Some class activities may be within time-constrained conditions.
What can I do next? Our course will provide you with great opportunities to progress in the future. You could continue your study at university on a number of related degrees such as Tourism, Event Management and Aviation Management. If you would rather move into work, you could also grow your knowledge directly in the workplace in roles such as a Travel Agent, an Overseas Representative, an Air Cabin Crew Member or Events Assistant.

You will concentrate on six particular areas of interest to you per year and attend college for three to five days each week, dependent on individual circumstances.

TRAINEESHIP Created for students who prefer learning through practical experience, our A route to Traineeship programme employment allows you to get into work-based learning and back into education.

A full-time programme of study for those who are ready to take on the challenges of a work placement, our Traineeship is ideal if you have reached Level 2 but do not wish to continue in class-based learning any further. Alongside your time at college where you will study Functional Skills in English and Maths (GCSE where appropriate) and NCFE Employability, you will also benefit from a supported work placement for two to four days a week. Students on the course need to be prepared to develop skills necessary to be successful in the workplace. Throughout the programme, you will focus on: • Employability - interview skills, job searching and writing the best CV • Developing Maths and English • Problem solving skills • Confidence and team building With the support of our excellent team, you will have a responsibility to critically analyse your skills and recognise any improvements that could be made.

Supported Internship Designed for 16-24 year olds, our Supported A route to Internship programme helps young people with employment a learning disability and/ or difficulty make their first steps into employment; learning new skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, in a way that’s tailored to meet your individual needs.
What will I learn?
Throughout the programme you will benefit from the support of an experienced Job Coach, specialising in helping those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to undertake work placements with an employer for six months. You will learn key elements of working with an employer through working with your Job Coach and The Employability Award, including looking at problem solving skills for work, interview skills, practical tasks associated to your chosen career path and Health & Safety in the workplace. With this extra support that we provide, our aim is to secure paid employment for you at the end of your Internship. Alongside studying Functional Skills in English and Maths our course also focuses on your Personal and Social Development, with

This apprenticeship will allow you to assist a designer or design team and build specialist skills. The nature of your apprenticeship will depend on your employer but you could work in graphic and multimedia, interior, fashion and textile or product design. You will discover a range of units such as researching a design concept, interpreting a design brief and following the design process. You will also learn about the concept and techniques used in branding, understand market research, develop and extend your critical and creative thinking skills and collaborate in a creative process.

It is really important to ensure that your course choice is suitable for your ambitions now and in the future, whether it may be going to university or work after you have finished college. Our dedicated High Achievers Tutorial programme groups high achieving students together. It includes: • Specialised enrichment programme to develop your confidence and communication skills • Access to Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group university workshops and Summer Schools • Mentoring from tutors who are graduates of Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group universities.
Extended Project Qualification We also give you the chance to develop the skills necessary to enter Higher Education and employment by completing the Extended Project Qualification (EPG). It is looked upon favourably by Oxford, Cambridge and other selecting universities and can help applicants to stand out from the crowd when applying for popular degree courses like Medicine. Progression to Higher Education Our highly experienced Careers Advice and Guidance Team provide a comprehensive programme of support open to all students who wish to apply to university. Our advisers will support you from the point of selecting appropriate courses at application, through to securing your Higher Education place. If you study creative arts at Seevic College you will find yourself consistently stretched and challenged throughout your course. A-Levels Our broad range of creative A-Levels sit alongside each other very well, we also offer a Subsidiary Diploma in Make-up for Film & Theatre, which can be taken alongside your A-Level options. See p12- 43.
Level 3/4 Foundation Diploma in Art & Design This is a one-year course, taken after you have finished your A-Levels or BTEC Level 3 course, which is the ideal next step towards Higher Education. It is also required by many of the top art and design universities in Britain.
Level 3 BTEC Extended Diplomas Our Level 3 BTEC Extended Diplomas are broad and dynamic full-time programmes, which are equivalent to three A-Levels, and are recognised as such. They are perfect for you if you are already confident that you want to commit to a career in the creative industries. We also offer Level 2 BTEC Diplomas which allow you to develop the skills you will need to move on to Level 3. See p44-77. Each of our courses focuses on developing your employability skills; preparing for future employment and vocational development. This will include a range of exciting workbased learning projects and a work experience placement.

You will get the chance to develop a specialist portfolio before progressing to university or specialist Art School. You will have access to your own dedicated studio space, where you can hone your creative skills and prepare for future study and a creative career. See p102. HND in Art & Design Our highly experienced staff will support you on your journey to becoming an independent and industry ready artist or designer during this two-year course. The HND in Art & Design will enable you to gain a Higher Education qualification, equivalent to the first two years of a degree at university, on your doorstop at a fraction of the cost. After completing the course you could progress straight on to the third year of a compatible degree programme elsewhere. Benefits include having your own dedicated space in our well-lit studio and access to a range of equipment. See p103.

Seevic Storm
Basketball
Seevic Storm offers you a unique opportunity to be part of one of the most successful sports programmes in England. We compete at the highest level of national competitions – with an array of team and individual champions in recent years. Sports on offer include Rugby, Football, AASE Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Trampoline, Golf, Swimming and Athletics.
Our Basketball programme is the only Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) in the Eastern Region, approved by the England Basketball Association. It includes 13 hours of coaching per week, with specific Strength and Conditioning provided by GB Basketball Senior Squad Coach Mark Williams plus individual sessions. Our Basketball Academy competes in the AoC Sports ABL League.
Football Our Football Academy offers male and female players the opportunity to receive elite level coaching while continuing to progress in their education. Headed by Coaches Danny Greaves and Steve Tilson, our programme provides the opportunity to train four times per week and to participate in AoC Sports Leagues, National Cups, English Schools Cup and Essex Cups.
Rugby Being part of our Rugby Academy gives you access to a comprehensive personal training schedule including tailored Strength and Conditioning designed to improve all attributes of your game. You will train five times a week, with sessions led by experienced coaches who possess a wide range of position-specific knowledge. Netball The Netball Academy is one of the most successful college programmes in the country. You’ll get the chance to participate in a range of league and cup competitions, with regular weekly fixtures. Our two squads both compete in the AoC Sports East Premier League and against Netball Academies from across the country.

I can’t decide what courses to write on my application form
Can I get careers advice at college?
Don’t worry – what you write on your form does not have to be your final choice! You can change your options when you come for an interview, you may even change your mind after you’ve received your GCSE results. You will have a chance to discuss any changes with us before you start your course.
Yes – our Careers Centre is open every day so you can get help and advice whenever you need it.
Can I get more detailed information about the courses available?
How and when should I apply?
More information on each of our courses, such as modules and trips, can be found on the course pages of our website. What happens if I’m offered a place at college but don’t get the grades I need?
Will I be able to park my car/ scooter/bike at college? We currently have free parking spaces on campus, but we can’t guarantee a place for everyone.
We encourage students to apply as early as possible by completing the application form at the back of this prospectus or by applying online at seevic-college.ac.uk. For help and guidance on how to do this, see p110.
If your GCSE results aren’t as good as you hoped, stay calm. We will be available to discuss all your options with you when you receive your GCSE results.
