PORTFOLIO | ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL OF PARIS LA VILLETTE | DELFT UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
CASABLANCA | PARIS | DELFT | AMSTERDAM | ROTTERDAM
In the beginning of 2013, at the age of 17 years old, I sent my cover letter from Casablanca to this big Parisian School with the candid hope that my unshakeable determination and insatiable motivation would grant me a place there.
September 2017, I get the opportunity to be part of the LEVS architecten team in Amsterdam and work closely with Jurriaan Van Stigt on international projects (in Africa & Europe).
September 2013, I have the incredible chance to settle in Paris to study Architecture and live my vocation. But it was not enough. I still wanted to aim for the best in order to learn from them. Therefore, I applied for an exchange year at TU Delft and fought for the only seat available.
March 2018, I join the team of KCAP, Kees Christiaanse Architects & Planners in Rotterdam to work on Architecture and Urban projects and competitions, and take part of designing urban solutions and strategies for city branding and redevelopment.
September 2016, I am studying at TU Delft among the most enthusiastic peers and with the most inspiring tutors. My motivation and determination have never been stronger and I surely was not willing to stop.
October 2018, I am back to Paris to join the young team of SYVIL while finishing my masters.
I invite you to browse through some of my achievements since the beginning of this adventure, hoping that my next step forward, would be to join your team !

Built
in 1846, the «Dépôt de la Chapelle» closed down permanently in 2014. Located in the 18th district of Paris, this former train maintenance hall site is today dedicated to the development of an urban project within the framework of the big urban plan of Paris North East. The Railway Hall is a witness of a strong history, our approach is therefore articulated around the poetry of the rail tracks by putting them in the heart of the projet and creating a new mixed neighborhood with a focus on green spaces and the preservation of the remarkable industrial heritage. Our implantation follows the same approach that reinforces the railway character, aligning on the existing structure, delimited by a mixed program strip parallel to the tracks. This strip forms on one side a belvedere on the heart of the site that is 6m lower than the main road and on the other, a highline walk along the tracks. This difference of levels represents a great potential of an urban logistics site, which would help implement rail freight, a more ecological urban service.

Models of the architectural interventions within the urban plan - The entrance «housing Tower» and the former «Train Lifting Hall»
On the architectural level, we intervene on two buildings at the entrance of the site: the Lifting Hall formerly used for train maintenance, and a housing building (Cf. next page) as part of the new urban plan.

The heritage report of the hall indicates that it is in very good condition. We therefore preserve the entire structure of the hall and the assembly workshop on the right of it, and we demolish two adjacent buildings in order to release the silhouette of the concrete columns.

View towards the entrance and towards the park
The apartment building marks the entrance and is levitating to allow a continuous walk from Ordener Street to the elevated walk on the strip. For this new construction, we set ourselves to work with a wood structure, modular and scalable. Building with wood allows an accelerated construction whose unique shape can accommodate several activities (with a height higher than 3 m, the housing can be converted into office spaces or a doctor’s office, or even divide to independent studios ...). We also place a lot of importance on outdoor spaces, since all typologies of appartments have balconies, loggias... Also, the building benefits from two large shared terraces: one to the East (towards the rails) and on to the West (towards Montmartre). The facade is made of earth bricks from Paris yards and houses bird nests in its thickness, protecting the biodiversity that has settled on the site.

THE INCLUSIVE ISLAND Year 4 Semester 2 (Amsterdam - Netherlands) Professors: Egbert Stolk & Tom Daamen
Cruquius ... a public waterfront and inclusive functions which lead to an improved Amsterdam East
East Amsterdam
This was the vision my team and I had for the serious urban redevelopement game regarding the industrial business area taking place on the last island of the Eastern Docklands. As the Urban Designer of the team, I conducted a thorough analysis on the scale of not only Cruquius but Amsterdam East to formulate the vision that will lead to a successful masterplan for the area. By looking into the challenges facing cruquius it is clear that its development takes to heart the needs of the municipality and plays an important role in upgrading the area of Amsterdam East. This is where the opportunities that Cruquius offers come to light.

When combined with every stakelholders core values and interests (the municipality and the developers), the vision translates itself to five pillars that are used as guiding themes for our interventions and developements - thus becoming the foundation of the master plan.

The spatial translation of the pillars enrolls accross the whole of Cruquius, meeting therefore the goals initially envisionnered for this inclusive island.
A brief gist of the phasing is explained in the following spread. The example used in the phasing plan is the removal of the dump and scrapyard on the site. It is a good illustration of the feasibility of the schedule by showing how implementing market adjustment time and preparing for other scenarios, our redevelopment plan remains feasible.
Phase 1: Removal of the dump Start of Housing Developments by Amvest Temporary housing
A detailed explanation of the plan and its execution from a global perspective (Urban & Financial feasibility) is available within a thorough extensive report that I will be happy to share.

RE-THINK DE ROTTERDAM 2007 - Bankruptcy Case Year 4 Semester 2 (Rotterdam - Netherlands) Professor: Leentje Volker
WE ARE IN 2007 We are Re-think, a Consultancy Firm which intervenes when unplanned scenarios occur. We look at things differently , and re-think the process. Back in the 90’s, Riek Bakker seeked to connect Rotterdam Zuid to Noord. The first step was the Erasmusburg, making the whilaminapier an Entrance Gate to the south. The municipality has a vision for the pier that consists of two goals: adding spatial quality and branding the city as a whole. The 3 shifting towers design of OMA has the potential to meet that vision ! But in 2007, the developer MAB goes bankrupt. The city is facing some threats: -The Vision of the municipality may not be realised -The connection between north and south will not be improved -The municipality won’t have a place to house their offices. But the biggest threat remains that the project may not continue. Therefore the main aim is to get the project started!
• Re-Think De Rotterdam - 2007 MAB Goes Bankrupt
But this incident is also an opportunity to re-think the strategic design: -The Iconicness of the building can be improved by opening the functions to the public -The attractive aspect of the building will connect north and south and also attract tourism. -It is also the chance to reorient the programme of the building towards other market trends. We can see that the living market in 2007 is booming and there is a need for housing. The office market is growing too and the Hotel market is expected to grow as well. The market is demanding these functions and the building can give the supply. Next to the existing functions, we see a trend in 2007 that the number of students is growing, especially foreign students. We see an opportunity to incorporate this trend in the building. The idea behind the Erasmus bridge was to connect, but as we can see on this picture all the icons are located in the north of the city. The bridge is a nice transition, but we need to add a destination.
In order to insure this success, we want to improve the vertical city concept of De Rotterdam and improve the social sustainability. A ÂŤVertical cityÂť consists of mixing functions of living, working, sleeping and meeting. The Social Sustainability consists of a mix of users. When the concept is translated to the design :
Former Design
The three towers function well with living - working - sleeping, but the improvement we seek to implement is mostly in the plinth. We see the plinth as the market of the south with restaurants, shops, food stands, etc. The plinth will make The Rotterdam even more iconic, and user friendly. The empty shell risks is no longer a threat. The plinth is Socially sustainable and is where different users both from within and outside the building could come together but not only. Users from Rotterdam Noord and Zuid.
Re-Design
We create a new vibe , by making the plinth open and transparent, accessible both visually and litterally, we meet the goal of the Vertical city for all.
Re-Design Summary
• Re-Think De Rotterdam - 2007 MAB Goes Bankrupt
• Re-Think De Rotterdam - 2007 MAB Goes Bankrupt
How do we accomplish this concept? A detailed explanation of the business cases of each function and their feasibility is available within a thorough report that I will gladly share. Details about the different re-design strategies, their legal meaning and economic impact are further shown as well.
CONCERT HALL - - 2 0 0 0 - Year 4 Semester 1 (Tokyo Japan) Professors: Job Schroën, Aafke Van Dijk & Eric Hehenkamp
The Concert Hall 2000 was
the subject of the Master studio Extreme within the department of Architectural Engineering of TU Delft : an Extreme project with an extreme programme, in extreme conditions.
Seismic Waves
Sound Waves
The concert hall takes place in Tokyo in a dense commercial neighborhoud. The goal was to add an architectural object to this neighborhood by marking this addition to the city, but not only. The design had to take into account the Extreme Vibrations; Waves of Sound and Earthquake. My idea was to make an integral design where the structure is a motor of creativity and not an inhibitor, therefore I chose to make the structure earthquake proof, functional and aesthetic meeting the rules of Firmitas, Utilitas and Venustas.

By playing with the structure I could insure a box in box configuration to soundproof my building, and by working on this project from scale 500 to 1:5, from a conceptual and urban point of view to the execution drawing, the detailing was done so that the concert hall can be 2030 futureproof. The result is an iconic building that affirms its character thanks to an appearing structure, capturing the chaos, either seismic or acoustical, while reflecting that in its interior environment.

S O F T CONNECTIONS (COLLABORATION VERONIKA
WITH DESOVA)
Year 3 Semester 2 (Saujon France) Professors: Frédéric MARTINET & Philippe GUIONY
How
to reorganise and reshape the streets of Saujon in favour of pedestrians and cyclists? This was our task for this Urban project. The inhabitants of the small town near the Atlantic ocean coast of France have an already established preferred mode of transport - the car. However, it is no coincidence that the vehicles are the dominant way of transporting. The river Seudre splits the town and the lack of connections isolates the South residential area from the city centre. The highway which slashes the town also alienates the recreational zone with the densely populated area of Saujon. These factors together with the unfinished plans for pedestrian and cyclist routes contribute for the inconsistent and incoherent transmit of activities.
• Soft Connections - Saujon
Thus, in order to improve the quality of pedestrian and cyclist circulation throughout Saujon, we decided to link the key points of the town starting from the arrival spot (the Train station), through the city centre, the focal points of the city and finishing with the leisure point in the outskirts - the Wakeboard station.
This established route would not only ease the access of pedestrians and cyclists but also create a desirable, undisturbed green promenade with a subtle balance between all means of transport. Downtown streets can become destinations worth visiting, not just thruways to and from the workplace. Transit stops and stations would make commuting by rail or bus a pleasure. Neighbourhood streets are places where parents feel safe letting their children play, and commercial strips are designed as grand boulevards, safe for walking and cycling and allowing for both through and local traffic.

MORE ABOUT ME
ENGLISH WRITING From my first English classes, I found to this language a certain flexibility and wealth allowing me to use it as my favourite means of expression. I rushed dedicating my free time to writing, a cathartic passion I seeked to push further through the years. It began with poems, songs and shorts stories, then evolved to long letters, essays or spoken word poems. English has become my language of exchange, release and sharing. Whether they are stage whispers, monologues or letters, I had the chance to perform my work and share my experience in front of Paris’s finest artists at Spoken Word workshops taking place in a mystical basement of a well-known bistrot in the very heart of « Bastille ».
If you would like to know more, I will gladly share all of my work with you if the opportunity ever allows me to do so once in your team.
² LEARNING BY DOING In the early summer of 2017 I had the incredible chance to work with Nadia Remmerswal, the elected best Student of the faculty of Architecture of TU Delft, to buil the first 1 to 1 prototype of her graduate project: CAST Formwork Systems (CFS) . It is a concrete formworksystem based on CNC milling technology. It enables selfconstruction in informal areas to build safe incremental housing up to four storeys high. Ordinary formwork systems are complex to use, often too expensive for the low- to midlow income group. The CFSsystem is not only cheaper, but can also be customized to all shapes of building-plots and is both safe and easier in use. Volunteering for construction projects like this one, is how I satiate my thirst of learning, in order to be able to constitute my package of knowledge for a more practical and accurate approach of Architecture.
In 2017, I joined a TEDxTalk Challenge and made my way to the Final event to pitched my idea in front of a large audience. My idea worth spreading was: How to date your crush*! We all have crushes , but most of us cringe to the idea of going somewhere with this hunch and only a few are brave enough to go for it and just do it! So HOW ? Well... you get your crush to crush on you ! Either it is in Love life and in that sense «dating», or in Professional life, and in that sense «getting the opportunity that you want, your career crush», it is important to know how to go with things to the next level and explore the potential of the relationship (either literally or in a Job sense). They say true love waits but the right job doesn’t ! Well I believe great stuff don’t wait at all ! So you have to be ready to go for them when the circumstances lead you to have an opportunity. *I am currently dating my crush, I am studying in my crush school, and applying for my crush job ! ;)
SPARTAN WORKOUT If you have seen those crazy people lunging on the top of the TU Delft library in the cold weather and squatting while carrying each other, well this means you have seen the spartan workout groups. During my exchange year I joined this highly intensive workout. I also trained for a survival run and surprisingly did survive. Why did I do this or why do these «spartans» do this ? My coach and dear friend Bart van de Laar explains it this way : When you start working out you go from the initial «I can’t do this» to «oh no this is serious» to «This hurts !» to «I DID IT !» and everyone knows that through learning to break the thing you
thought initially was impossible and making it possible, you start to think differently about what you can and cannot do. And this, eventually, sets a series of events in motion that make you realise that your past will not determine your future, your destiny is not set in stone. Why we do this regularly ? Well frequency and consistency teaches discipline. And also because simply, if you need to be great at something you need to do it regularly. Practice makes perfect.

During my time at LEVS architecten, I had the opportunity to design a small but important building within our work for the foundation Partners Pays Dogon : a sustainable energy battery storage entirely made of HCEB bricks (Hydraulically Compressed Earth Bricks) with a natural ventilation system.

HCEB bricks have a high compressive strength, which allows them to be used as a supporting structure. Their production, their composition and their method of treatment are constantly developing. The aim is to reduce the amount of cement that costs not only expensive but also needs to be imported in Mali. Even if HCEB do not even contain 5% cement, the cost of this material is 85% of the price per brick.

Due to the warm climate in Mali, it is important that the interior of the reserve can be as fresh as possible to ensure the longest possible battery life. That is why, in addition to using HCEB as a building material, we decided to build double walls for the first time. Between the two layers of walls, there is a void of air; a transition between warm outdoor air and cooler indoor air. The interior walls are not directly exposed to the sun, so the bricks do not heat up. Natural ventilation is provided by small openings in both walls. Even if the wind can pass through, the position of the openings prevents a direct flow that could bring sand into the storage. The roof is also designed to protect the batteries. The outer shell is completely closed so that water cannot infiltrate. The inner shell has openings that allow the warm air collected high up to leave the building.
