IVE OAK – Divorced, raising three children and battling a serious condition caused by a head injury, Sherise Davila needed a new lease on life. And that’s where man’s best friend came to the rescue.

“I was having seizures, it was a really bad time in my life and me and my kids were trying to rebuild our lives,” Davila said. Then, along came Pluto, a pit bull terrier she adopted from a shelter. “We had Pluto trained for my seizures, and it changed my entire world,” she said. Pluto can sense several minutes in advance when an attack is about to occur, and Davila can now go out in public in a way she couldn’t before, she added. “We could go to the movies; I could go to my kids’ school plays. It just became such a gift, and so my kids said, ‘Mom, this is heaven-sent.’” The sentiment became the name of Davila’s nonprofit, Heaven Sent Pit Bull Rescue, located in Live Oak. The organization not only adopts and places pit bulls as pets, but after training and testing,
