Four years ago now, the PARIS BOOK FAIR embarked on a strategic repositioning, with the aim of encouraging even more young visitors to come to the show and, on the trade side, of developing the digital areas and the Fair’s international profile. Drawing on thirty years’ experience of engaging the consumer attendance with high-quality cultural programming, at the same time the Paris Book Fair has developed industry platforms that have constantly expanded in scope and increased in quality. Today the Paris Book Fair is a model for other international exhibitions, many of them now keen to move beyond being a rights marketplace and develop initiatives aimed at the consumer attendance. In these times of radical and fast-paced change, the Paris Book Fair remains a key event bringing the entire book sector together. Today it offers the book industry timely networking and business opportunities including international and audiovisual rights, translation, the digital sector and

exclusive previews for booksellers. The Fair now attracts exhibitors from more than 40 countries and presents a dynamic events programme each year – including the guest city of honour, publisher fellowships, etc. Keen to bring the whole publishing industry on board, this year the Fair is offering a “booster” package to enable small publishers to take part, giving them the chance to meet buyers and expand their business. In a world where the shift to digital — blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. — is becoming the focus of interest for many industry players, we on the Paris Book Fair team remain convinced that the exhibition format has lost none of its relevance: the Fair is a key strategic date in the calendar of any company looking to grow and expand its business. My entire team is on hand to help create the optimum conditions for your participation in the next Paris Book Fair. Bertrand Morisset Fair Manager
