2. Use correct hair products At Simone Thomas Hair Salon we recommend using two incredible Davines products either the MINU range or the natural coloured Alchemic products which is our favourite colour enhancing shampoo and conditioner. The benefits include: • Protection of cosmetic colour • Brighter colour for longer • Hydrated, soft and silky hair • Natural active ingredients If you didn’t purchase these in salon then you can order on our online shop here: https://my-salon.shop/?salonname=Simone%20Thomas&salonlocation=Bournemouth

As a multi award-winning salon and hair loss salon we want your hair to remain in the best condition as possible so please see below the aftercare advice for your hair colour from our colour expert Lauren.

Our favourite quote from Simone is

‘You wouldn’t put diesel in a petrol car so why would you spend money on colouring your hair for the products to rinse the colour out within days?’

1. Washing of your hair When colouring hair, your cuticle layer is opened, making it easy for colour to penetrate the hair shaft. When you wash your hair too soon after your appointment, the cuticle layer could still be open which then leads to your colour being washed down the drain. It takes up to three days for the cuticle layer to fully close, so the longer you wait to shampoo your hair after you colour your hair, the more time the colour pigment will have to soak into the hair cuticle – which will help your colour last longer in between salon visits.

3. Turn down water temperature when shampooing Though hot showers feel amazing to some, it isn’t so great for your hair colour. When washing hair with hot water, your hair’s cuticle is opened, allowing your colour to wash out while shampooing and conditioning. To prevent seeing all of your colour go down

3

5. On off days, use dry shampoo On your off days of not washing your hair, try using colour-safe dry shampoos. These will refresh your hair and make it look like you just got a blowout without even having to wash your hair! You can also try colour-tinted dry shampoos to revamp your colour without having to head to the salon. 6. AVOID chlorine Chlorine is a chemical bleaching agent that cleans pools and will definitely strip colour from your hair when enjoying a sunny pool day. Blonde hair is susceptible to turning a greenish tint, while darker shades may become dull, dry out, and lose its shine. So, if you find yourself wanting to go to the pool, try a swimmers cap! Or, try getting your hair wet in the shower, use conditioner, and then don’t rinse it out. This will create a barrier on the hair shaft so that the chlorine won’t penetrate.

the drain, try shampooing with slightly warm water and then rinse with cold water after conditioning. The warm water will allow the shampoo and conditioner to penetrate and cleanse, while the cold water will help seal in the moisture from your conditioner while preventing colour from fading by sealing the hair’s cuticle. 4. Wash hair less often Washing your hair everyday is something you want to avoid if wanting your hair colour to last longer. Not only are you washing away the natural oils that moisturise and keep your hair colour looking fresh, you also wash away a little bit of your hair dye every time you wash your hair. Try washing your hair every other day or even 2-3 times a week to keep your colour on lock.

7. Use heat protectant spray before using hot tools Heat will strip away colour and hydration and lead to damaged hair. To help prevent

4

Kerastraight Aftercare

these problems from happening while using hot tools, try using a heat protectant spray before blow drying or styling. Heat protectant sprays will help reduce moisture loss from inside the hair, smooth the outside of the hair, and protect your hair from humidity after heat styling which, in all, will help maintain your colour.

Correct aftercare is essential to maintain the quality of your KeraStraight results. It is important to not only follow the correct advice, but to also use the correct and recommended products. Following the correct aftercare advice could prolong the KeraStraight results. As the leading hair and hair loss salon we want your hair to remain in the best condition as possible so please see below the aftercare advice for your KeraStraight treatment from our hair director Lauren.

8. Use leave-in treatments to protect hair colour when styling Coloured and chemically treated hair needs extra hydration and protection from the sun to prevent damage and loss of nutrients to the hair. Leave-in treatments will help keep your hair smooth and hydrated, and it’s important to find one with UV protection so that the sun won’t fade your hair colour.

Washing: Once the service is complete, the hair can be shampooed after just 30 minutes. It’s important that the hair is rinsed for 3-5 minutes before the first shampoo after the treatment.

9. Toner As stated above we offer a colour toner service as we want your hair to look incredible for longer. Check out our blog here to find out how toner locks the colour in your hair. https://www.simonethomas.com/ blog/4796/

We recommend only using KeraStraight Moisture Enhance or Volume Enhance Shampoos and Conditioners. These luxurious homecare products are free from Sodium Chloride (Salt) and sulphates, which could both strip the new proteins from the hair and include our exclusive KeraStraight complex to maximise the treatments’ performance and longevity and protect against daily environmental stresses.

5

Styling: We always recommend KeraStraight Styling Products as these have been developed to continue the repair and protection. These can be purchased in the salon. If you did not purchase them today at your appointment, please email the salon at westbourne@simonethomas.com to order.

Next treatment: Your KeraStraight results should last up to 4 months but can be re-applied after one month if you feel you need an extra top up. KeraStraight recommends only using the KeraStraight Moisture and Volume Enhance Shampoo and Conditioner and Moisture Mask or Protein Mask. All of these are available at Simone Thomas Salon.

Hair Extensions Aftercare General Advice

Colouring:

We recommend tying your hair back in a loose ponytail or plait using a soft scrunchie for bed.

Non-oxidising colours (direct acting true semi-permanent and temporary colours) can be applied directly after the first shampoo, which can be after just 30 minutes. Oxidising colours (tints, bleach, quasi-permanent) can be applied either 2 days before the service or 2 days afterwards. It is usually best to lighten prior and add depth and tone after the treatment. However, your Simone Thomas stylist will be able to advise you of when is best to colour according to your wants.

Please note that lighter shades of hair extensions have a bleach content therefore will not last as long in life span as non-bleached hair. The lighter shades will need extra care and less heat application to increase the lifespan. Products such as hairspray, dry shampoo and mousse will dry out your hair extensions and can destroy them.

advise testing a few strands beforehand. • You can pick the top section of your own hair up and apply conditioner to this section. • Pat hair gently when washed – do not rub.

Drying Advice: After washing, follow by detangling with a soft bristle brush, making sure you avoid the bonds. Be very careful when brushing the hair when wet, make sure you support the extensions by holding the bonds.

It is not recommended to colour, tint or perm the extension hair. These types of products contain elements that can damage the extension hair.

Make sure all bonds are dried completely. Do not sleep with wet hair extensions, ensure they are dry before you head for bed.

Washing Advice:

Brushing Advice:

• Your hair extensions should only be washed at least 2 times per week. • Before washing your hair, it is advised to detangle your hair with an extension brush and separate the bonds if you have bonded extensions. • When washing your hair do not tip your head over the bath as this could cause tangling – always wash your head upright. Washing your hair in the shower is ideal. • Smooth the shampoo down the extension hair – do not rub vigorously. • Only condition from the mid-lengths to the ends of the hair. Do not apply any conditioner to the bonds as this will cause slippage. • Depending on the brand, silver/blue shampoo can discolour extensions. We

Remember your hair extensions are attached to your own natural hair, pulling too hard or mistreating your extensions can result in your own hair being pulled out. When brushing the extensions always hold the bonds, making sure no additional stress is put on the hair.

Day to Day Advice: If you workout regularly or have regular use of a sauna or steam room, make sure the bonds are completely dried as soon as possible after your session – leaving the bonds in a constant damp environment could cause them to deteriorate.

7

When working out or doing any exercise that can make you sweat you will need to wash your hair immediately afterwards as your bodies salt can dry your hair extensions out.

Maintenance: We recommend maintenance of your hair extensions every 6-8 weeks. We do have a six week waiting list for hair extensions so please make sure you book in advance.

Hair System Aftercare

Showering with a hair system – The Basics Choose warm water to wash your system as too high a temperature can affect the system’s lifespan. Then you need to select the right products for the type of system you have. Shampoos and conditioners are designed to suit the different maintenance needs. The main thing to look for is silicone, sulphate and paraben free and for most systems, highly nourishing and moisturising products.

How often should you wash your hair system? The general rule is once or twice a week. We also recommend that you use a sulphate free shampoo as this is kinder to the system and helps to keep the colour. You should get into the routine of regularly washing your hair system thoroughly about every six times you wear it. Here’s how…

Hair System Cleaning Preparations

Spray the warm water onto your head. Rub shampoo into your hands and stroke gently over the hair system. Rinse the hair system carefully and for longer than you would usually to prevent product getting trapped under the system.

Hair system cleaning is all part of your maintenance regime. It’s recommended that you: · U se a large wide-toothed comb to remove each tangle without unnecessary tension · Brush hair with a soft boar-bristle brush everyday to prevent tangles and prolong

Apply conditioner and repeat the process. Be careful to avoid the base when applying the conditioner to avoid slippery knots.

8

System Hair Loss

Thoroughly rinse to remove all traces. To rinse your scalp, ease the top of the hair system up to create small gap between hair piece and scalp (this cannot be done if the hair piece has been freshly beaded/glued as the system will be too tight).

There are certain factors that can cause hair loss earlier than you would want and these include: · E xtreme brushing – which causes hair to break off and thin your system. · Excessive tangling – tight knots will tear out hair if not detangled gently. · Friction – caused by hair rubbing on pillows, or too much washing. Sleep with hair tied in bunches/plaits and invest in a silk pillowcase. · Over-conditioning – too much conditioner will cause the cuticle to stay open inviting damage. · Pool water – chlorinated water will open cuticle layers and increase tangling. · Styling products – limit the use of hairsprays and other products containing alcohol. · Hair dyes – permanent hair colours can penetrate the hair shaft, so opt for semi-permanent colours that don’t contain peroxide.

Towel dry without rubbing – simply pat. Spray the leave-in conditioner / heat protect spray onto the midlengths and ends of the hair. Where possible, hold onto the roots to prevent tension and comb through ends with a wide tooth comb. Then let the system dry naturally or blow dry with air flowing downwards onto the head to keep the cuticles in the correct direction and avoid matting. When your system is completely dry you can re-attach any lifted areas on taped/glued systems. Then continue to style.

Cleaning Independently (for hair pieces that are removed at home) To ensure that your hair system bonds effectively you need to fully remove any residue left by the adhesive. This is easily done with a spray citrus oil adhesive remover which takes about five minutes to work. Wipe with a kitchen towel.

Wig Aftercare Correct aftercare is essential to maintain the quality of any human hair wig system for women or men.

Shampoo the underside and then rinse thoroughly. This may need to be repeated several times. If your system is held in place by tape, you’ll need to carefully peel the tape off before carrying out the cleaning procedure.

It is important to not only follow the correct advice, but to also use the correct and recommended products.

9

Over time human hair wigs will need a toner or colouring service due to the fact they lighten like your own hair would in the sun or after washing due to the colour fading and also it can wash out. Our wig colouring service is very popular, many clients do use our drop off and collect service too. Our wig colouring includes colouring, conditioning and styling. Longer hair wigs should always be brushed from the ends first! Prior to washing, remove all knots paying particular attention to the nape area. Failure to follow the correct aftercare advice could cause damage to the wig and decrease the lifespan.

Fill a hand bowl or sink with tepid water. Wet the wig throughout and then apply the recommended shampoo evenly and gently whilst creating a lather, rinse and then repeat with a second shampoo.

As the leading hair loss salon, we want your hair to remain in the best condition as possible so please see below the aftercare advice.

Pat the water out with a towel and then add the conditioner to the ends – do not apply the conditioner to the knots or root area as this can cause the hair to shred.

Care Advice All human hair wigs can be set using the following; Hairdryers, Curling Tongs, Hooded Dryers, Ceramic Irons and Heated Rollers.

Once conditioned pat gently using a towel, never rub.

Products we recommend to keep your wig in perfect condition:

We recommend pump spray hairspray and not aerosol due to the chemicals that can be within such products. We recommend that you use hair products that are recommended by our team when styling your human hair wig.

Please note, these are approximate time frames and are based on everyday wear. • Fibre hair wigs can NEVER be coloured or bleached.
